Animal Watch meets the biggest and baddest flock guardian of them all - The Malakli Karabaş, otherwise known as the Aksaray Malaklısı. He is the LARGER, HEAVIER and more AGGRESSIVE cousin to the Turkish Kangal. Known to be a real handful, as he usually works independently managing hundreds of sheep on his own in the Turkish mountains, so what are these dogs like living in a house in the United Kingdom? We will show you as Anneka meets two giants living in Liverpool and Newcastle. Known for their aggression, will she be ok?

This video really shows the difference between a owner who just owns the dog and a owner who trained and socialize his dog from very young age and knows how to handle and manage his dog. absolutely great work from the second owner.

Malaklı = garbage can. Can't run for 1 minute, gets tired quickly. it cannot be used to protect sheep anywhere in the world. It is a very bulky and greasy dog. does not like to walk. It is used only as a guard dog. gives up quickly in dog fights because she gets tired quickly.

I had one malakli who died at fifteen ten years ago in my family farm in central Anatolia. It was so huge and impressive. He would never bark and make no noise of any kind. He used to give his silent and suspicious look at the strangers coming and going. As if he was telling the strangers " Hey, be careful of what are you up to because you're unceasingly on my close survailance, be a good person otherwise, hmmm you already know what would happen". Exactly like that. He was a real legend. I miss him much.

I have a large male Malakli and he's a gentle giant. I walk him with my male Husky and he has never shown any aggression to a person or any of the off-lead dogs that approach us. I've heard him growl at the cats and chickens when they attempt to steal his food, but most dogs would do that. A lot of videos misrepresent the breed, using them as status dogs. I hope this doesn't happen in the UK.

My Kangal is three years old. She is super intelligent and if she doesn't like someone, she has a reason. Today my wife was walking her on Mount Charleston (Harris spring road- 30 minutes outside Las Vegas) early morning to beat the heat. A young burro met her on the path. After a 10 minute stare down, they started playing and hanging out. They walked together for about 45 minutes. Luckily my wife had her phone out and got lots of video. I love that the Kangal will play with a strange donkey and at the same time make sure a coyote never gets close to the family.

All I can say is "WOW"!! That is amazing power and independence packed into an amazing flock guardian. I believe that they can still be trained to a much higher level than the owners have done above as I have seen this done with Ovcharka's and Bully Kuta's, but it takes a lot of dedication in time, patience and resources. However all in all, its truly an amazing breed. Great work highlighting this breed!! Hope you can travel and showcase other dog breeds that are not in the UK but have good and responsible owners. The Tosa Inu and Fila Brasiliero in point. Keep up the amazing work!

I will say though I can’t for the life of me think why anyone would have one of these dogs in a residential area where you have to cross the street to avoid people and other dogs?!? I wonder if these people would consider using a sausage dog to protect sheep from wolves LOL That's the opposite scenario
@Kaotiqua

As the second owner said, that behavior is on the owner/handler, not on the dog. The owner who said he has to cross the street is either deliberately encouraging aggressiveness in his dog, or simply failing to properly socialize him.

Wrong, the Malkali was bred to be a livestock guardian dog along with the Kangal and akbash
@fattohead
@fattohead 2 года назад
Kangals may be smaller in size when compared with Malaklı, but Kangal's are far more intelligent, I mean really really they are! They're not that kind of breeds you may educate like a regular breed. somehow they have a very uniqe personality, and they know and feel what and where the thread is, what does smell, who is suspicious etc...I mean they're not the type of dogs you want him to bring your newsaper and slippers, they're so free and have their own persona. That's why security forces can't use them for searching drugs. etc. like a german shepherd. They'll never let your friend visit your home and touch your children if you don't give permission, till if you bring your friend to home with you and introduce him that he's your friend.Even then, he'll let him patrol in your garden but note that your friend is still suspicious to Kangal! He's relaxed, but still keeping an eye on him. He's loyal to family and children. They want to be free in your big lands peeking suspicious things and interfering trespassers, guarding your sheep packs against enemies, even you're not with the pack, they'll escort your livestock and bring them back to your farm from the mountains! And if they can't find their proper diet, it's ok them to consume poor food. In central and eastern lands of Turkiye, winters are so blasting cold and difficult, and it takes maybe 6 months (thanks to global warming, it may not be that long anymore =(( It's not easy to find proper food for their dogs for a shephard with his pack on the mountains during these freezing times. So they feed their dogs just with a mixture of strained water of boiled bones on to bran or barley!! That's what they call 'YAL'.. Malaklı's are bigger, bulkier, scarrier but they're slower, more hungry and less clever than Kangals. But with their sizes and always alarmed personality, they're also great guardians, I mean think if you are the trespasser and this Malaklı realized you!!! Size and muscle power is always a threat for any species (albeit to size Kangal still has the biggest biting force) Sadly, because of Malaklı's big scary size and protective nature , they train and use it for illegal dog fights in Turkiye. Lastly I don't believe Kangal and Malakli are two totally different species, couse their motherlands are also two close cities with 400km distance between them. For hundreds or thousand years, I believe their genes sure interacted somehow.

I have this dog breed and he is 95 cm even though he got really sick as a puppy (meaning he could have grown more) yes he can be very aggressive especially towards other animals but loves meeting new people. For example if we have guests in our house he doesn’t leave their side. Another thing not mentioned enough in this video is that the breed is very intelligent but is really really hard to train. He knows what I want him to do but most of the time chooses not to. Sometimes even food can’t bribe him. He chooses to do his job first prior to food. Comparing to the kangal, the Aksaray Malaklı has bigger paws and floppier ears but aren’t as athletic. Because of their heavy weight and genes 60 percent of the breed including my own dog has dislocated hips. Since he’s huge surgery wasn’t an option for him, but we put in this emmm golden beads in his hip joint that help a lot with pain. And it worked! Right now he’s 2.5 and living his life. And forgot to mention eating 2 kg daily. So yeah. Not the cheapest dog.

The first guy doesn't really know what he's taking about, it's alot more in his head than anything else. The second guy said it better, "without socialization they can get aggressive but more towards dogs". If these were aggressive, treats are not going be enough to get close to a dog like this. The first guy was surprised he was eating treats and was calm, clearly doesn't know he's own dog. I was hoping to see some actual man aggression or at least some protection instincts. Most live stock guardian dogs weren't meant to walk on leash. They free roam guarding herds of animals or patrolling properties. These breeds are thousands of years old, so it not a habit you can just take out of them. Well it can be done, you still have a 150 plus lb animal in your hands that is probably 3x if not more stronger then a human being

Firstly, I would like to congratulate you on having an opportunity to meet with such an amazing breed. I generally enjoy watching your content, however, there are times where it could be better. In my opinion, you are a reputable youtuber when it comes to canine-related content and numerous people watch your channel for education. Therefore, it is important to avoid misinformation for such an established youtuber. To begin with, the title of this video mentions kangal when the malakli is not related to kangal dogs at all. Kangal is an archaic shepherd dog with origin tied to proto-wolfdog. With its origin tied to central asia/transcaucasus region, kangal dogs are one of the most effective livestock guardian dog with extremely high speed, endurance, work ethic, tolerance to treacherous environment condition, supreme adaptability, very well developed senses and insanely efficient metabolism (meaning, that this dog can perform high on extremely limited calories). On the other hand, aksaray malakli is the dog hailing from Aksaray region of Turkey with its origin tied to ancient war/guard mastiff dogs used by the Sumerians. This dog heavily relies on a large amount of calories not only due to its large size but also due to inefficient metabolism; afterall, it's a mastiff and not a livestock guardian dog. Also, malakli’s endurance and athleticism relative to kangal is almost negligible. Malakli lacks the primitive instincts that kangal has, malakli has weaker senses and is less intelligent. The only factors in which malakli excels over kangal is size, bite force, aggression and gameness. Therefore, malakli is used as a fighting dog in Turkey (as well as estate guardian). Due to the lack of athleticism, low adaptability, temperament and instincts required for livestock works, malakli is NOT used as a shepherd dog (so that was the mistake you made in the video). Also, I know that you have made it clear in the video that malakli is not a kangal, however, you mentioned “kangal” in the title. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, “clickbait refers to something (such as a headline) designed to make readers want to click on a hyperlink especially when the link leads to content of dubious value or interest.” The reason why I am mentioning this is because there are people who want to truly understand the behavior, structure and temperaments of a “livestock guardian dog” like kangals. Your video title says “kangal”. Many people do not know what malakli is, but after seeing the keywords like “kangal” in the video, audiences hope to see a livestock guardian dog content, and malakli is nowhere close to a livestock guardian dog. Another common pattern I see in your videos is your extensive love for wolves. I love wolves. Their intelligence, agility, pack coordination and mentality seriously inspires me. However, you seem to be exaggerating facts about wolves out of proportion. I reside in Alberta and am an avid outdoor adventurer. I have traveled to woods of Northern Alberta and Yukon territory and have witnessed countless wolves. By the way, when it comes to the average size of wolves, the wolves around Mckenzie valley are supposed to be the largest. Upon witnessing countless wolves, interacting with many biologists and rangers, they have not once recorded a wolf that is bigger than malakli, like you claimed in the video. Malakli regularly weigh over 80 kg and in rare cases exceed 120 kg while an average Canadian wolf weighs about 50-60 kg and very rarely over 70 kg. According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the largest wolf was recorded in 1939 and it was a Mckenzie valley (Canadian timber wolf) caught in central Alaska was 175 lbs (79 kg). Regarding the all time question here, several bloodlines of malakli have been selectively bred for fighting capabilities and they have sumerian mastiff origin too, meaning these dogs have a very high gamene$$ and willingness to fight. Animals like wolves have very low willingness to fight because they are wild animals. In the wild, when it's about surviving, animals go for easy prey because they do not want to waste their energy fighting and risking potential injuries, as this can prove fatal. They are great hunters though due to their pack coordination. Now, you may be wondering why I wasted so much of my time writing such a long, rigorous comment. The reason is simple. I was an amateur dog enthusiast in the past too. It took me years to gain the amount of knowledge on working dog breeds that I have today. I relied on several established content creators like yourself to expand my knowledge on canines. Along the journey, I have faced countless misinformations. I simply do not want others to face such misinformation, and am providing feedback to make your channel even better in the future. I am subscribed to you and frequently enjoy your contents. I am by no means hating.

@@benhardwick1970 You have about 0 idea how primitive dogs look like, works and survives. And by the way i had infinite more more cage fights than You had. If You think i'm a soft wanker that wants to dog fight for me, than You are wrong - i fought my ass off when i was younger. If You think wolfs wont hesitate to rip apart weaker dogs in the wild than You are delusional. Ovcharkas often pay the highest price when defending a flock, to the applause of wolfmaniacs like Yourself. And the truth is dog gave life when instead of turning back he gave chase. Weaker and smaller herding dogs are deterrent , Kangals, pure blood asians, caucassians will go after predator more often than not. Now to be clear, Ovcharkas traditionally fought for dominance inside and in-between their own packs. And that were brutal fights, as you can sometimes see in the videos documenting livestock guardians. That was when the when the population of wildlife was far bigger than today, well as flock population. It did degenerate during the XX century to the point, that there was almost no good dogs left or even some of the types extincted. Firstly wars, than in case of USRR shooting of the biggest ones, than fighting rabbis with bullets and finally most of the better ones were sold for show lines, guarding lines and such. That is why some countries banned exports of their native breeds to regarding some of their working quality. To put it simple, dogfights i some cases helped to preserve some type of dogs. Such was a case of Caucasian Volkodaw. Now i don't praise Russians for punting two wolfs with Iron, and am not even fight enthusiast - i am in a search of old type dogs that survived the decimation of traditional nomadic life style. However that is the case when a top quality (working) ovcharka encounters a wolf of even a few of them. He will go for a kill no matter what.
