Meeting with Lauren Faust, while short, was a rather...sobering experience. Plus, my Lady and I got to show off our new Wolf Plushies made by the wonderfully talented Kiashone: kiashone.devian...
I think it's very possible that the show staff watch and appreciate the work of Bronies. You're so lucky to have met Lauren Faust! I wish I could meet her, but I probably never will. You're awesome, Dr. Wolf, by the way. Thank you for all you do for us fellow Bronies.
Doc, I don't know why this isn't public knowledge yet, but the show staff very much do look at, minimum, the most popular members/animations/works within the community. You count as that. They've shown a knowledge and understanding of it all time and again, a knowledge which will, at times, extend beyond into even some of the most obscure yet lovable places ever.
+Nathan Fleming thanks for sharing that with us that means they care a ton and we really do have a say even if in some small way! ALSO I AGREE THAT DR WOLF COUNTS AS WELL KNOW AND POPULAR IN OUR COMMIUNTY HE ACTUALLY MADE ME WANT TO START INTERACTING WITH OTHERS MORE AND NOT BE AFFRIAD TO TELL OTHERS THAT I LIKE THIS SHOW! ALSO ENCORGED ME TO PUT MY STORYTELLING TALENTS, AND ARTISTIC TALENTS TO USE IN THE COMMONUTY FROM HIS VIDS. WHICH I PLAN TO DO SOON!
I do know Cathey Wiseluck knows about your show and Silver Quill's and Josh Schochers. After all I've shared them with her and... [DRAMATIC PAUSE] She LOVES them and the work you three do.
That... wow. I don't know how I'd react to someone I admire or idolize had seen my fan content. Of course depending on what it is I'd either be overjoyed or wishing I could jump out a window. Still that's amazing and a heartwarming thing to consider Dr. Wolf. While I'm gushing a bit, I honestly find the work of the Brony Analysis Community to be one of the more positive aspects of the Brony community. Not that I'm disregarding the other parts of the fandom that inspire and represent the best of the MLPFiM community; but I can see why Lauren Faust would actually like what you and the others do. You all prove that ADULTS of either gender can be engaged by MLP and wish to talk about it in a manner that doesn't brush it off as 'some dumb girly cartoon'. You analysis the themes, morality lessons, character growth and development, the plot holes, the best of the series the worst of it... You all express a love for the series that it makes you want to make fan content, and pass on your love of the series and your hopes and dreams of what MLP can become as time goes on. Further proving MLP:FiM is more than just a 22 minute toy commercial, or 'some stupid show to keep kids busy for 30minutes' like some networks write off their animation timeslots. While the fandom of MLP like any other fandom has had it's share of warts and bad eggs that tend to paint the rest of the community in the same bad light; what you guys do is proof that she nailed what MLP had to become in order to survive after the craptastic Gen-3, and become more than the shackles of 'dumb girls cartoon' had labeled it for nearly thirty years. Even with Lauren Faust off the staff; the current show-runners still carry that legacy of ensuring (for the most part) MLP:FiM is something more than a girls cartoon or some over-glorified toy commercial. How invested the Analysis Community and other fans are with the series and the fact it's now running it's sixth season and over 100 episodes the longest running Hasbro-sponsored show, and dethroned Transformers Gen01 as the long-runner; is proof something special lies with the show to keep the train going this strong after six years. At least that's what I'd take from not being too surprised she'd like your work or the work of many of the rest of the Analysis Community.
Wow, quite the sobering thought, the idea that Lauren Faust, the woman who CREATED this wonderful show, might be one of your nearly 70 thousand subscribers. Talk about Approval of God.
I think many of the creators/writers for MLP are probably pretty stoked so many people outside of the target demographic appreciate what they're doing. It makes sense they might be a little curious at the very least, and you are a prominent figure with a positive message, so it's quite likely Faust has heard of what you do.
Your meeting with Lauren Faust takes me back to my own meeting with a nice woman who worked on the show... Back in the summer of 2014, I got to meet Ashleigh Ball herself at the L.A. screening of the Brony Documentary, "A Brony Tale". I had her sign my Elements of Harmony guidebook, specifically on the page recapping "Fall Weather Friends" staring her two Mane voiced Ponies, Applejack and Rainbow Dash. It made my whole summer so great! Glad to see you also got to meet with someone as great as her, Dr. Wolf! Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!
Hiya Dr. Wolf! I'm glad you had such a good time at the convention! And those plushies are adorable. To answer your question at 7:19 -- I certainly _hope_ that the many and varied creative talents behind _My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic_ do delve into the reaction-and-analysis community from time to time ... and that when they do so, they are pleased and proud of the joy, wonder, and delight they have helped give us all. I have said it many times (and goodness knows I'll likely say it many times more) but everyone involved in this show should kindly remember that _they are awesome_ and they should stay awesome! I find the thought that they might have seen such sentiments expressed from we the fans (or even me personally) is pleasing and comforting to me. Even if I never get the chance to tell them _"thank you!"_ in person -- it is very nice to think that they know we are grateful for their contributions. And here's hoping that everyone who has ever worked on the show, who is working on the show now, and who will work on the show in the future is doing _well._ After all, by virtue of their work on the show, we already know they are doing _good!_ Kudos to them all. Keep up the good work. And that goes for you as well, Dr.!
Oh WatchPony! It was lovely to work with him even though we hadn't really exchanged much convos other then through emails. But I was very happy to have that opprotunity with him and look forward to what else he comes out with. You should jump on the chance to do a list on his channel, it's really cool how he puts everything together! MEH EQUESTRIA DAILY SPOILD THE NEWEST EPISODE T.T *Ahem* Gah the plushies!!! They really do look just like my vectors! That's incredible! Yup I'm defiently am gonna commission her for my new plushie. She and I are hoping to meet up at Bronycon to discuss the details ^^ very excited about that especially since I think with her fair prices, they are a LOT more doable then the ones from EquestriaPlush. Plus...she actually gets back to me unlike them! (Feeling salty against Equestria Plush I admit it!) As for the Laurn Faust thing, wow you lucky wolf! I can only hope just to shake hands with her, let alone hear her say "Thank you for commenting on the show"... Why would she say that, it does dawn on me. Normally I would think she would say "Thanks for watching" for which in this case, she'd probably just assume like everyone else there, watches the show. But she said "commenting on the show" so hmm... It's defiently a possible I think Doc. However I also hear that MLP staff are not allowed to "watch" reviewers and what they have to say, at least for the writers and maybe animators of DHX. But I don't know if that's an actual contract, legal obligation, or rumor for that matter. Does it even apply to Laurn Faust if it's true? I'm not sure... It defiently sounds like a possibility. I look forward to seeing more and GAH THOSE PLUSHIES! Please let me get a picture holding them both when we meet at BBC Doc and Lady Wolf! Danke ^^
that is a sobering thought. Congratulations on meeting louren Foust and may I say I've been looking forward to seeing those plushies and by Jobe they are adorable!
I know that when I worked for a large video game company we were very much aware of the work of our fan community, and regularly watched their videos and read their articles, to the point that we'd absolutely recognise the more prominent members if we met them at conventions. Even though our creation is the inspiration for the fan creations, we're all still creators at heart and we love to see the things we inspire as much as we love to create.
That is awesome Dr. Wolf it is so cool you got to meet her and I bet she dose now who you are because you seem to of left a big impact on the community! though the missed opportunity to ask her a question or two was missed. :( though I assume she agrees with you to appoint or at least appreciates your points of views in the reviews you do of the show. THANKS FOR BEING SUCH A POSTIVE IMPACT IN TH COMMUNY THAT THE MLP GEN FOUR CREATOR SEEMS TO RECOGNISE DR WOLF!
Considering that the analysis community is a great source for good feedback on their work it might not come as the biggest surprise that they have been casting a glance over it now and then, especially after considering the 100th episode´s content. But it´s always a positive thought that they do appreciate that the analysis group keep an so good interest in their work, that they are willing to post out to the public their thought´s on the show and bring the fandom together with an curious and fellow interest.
Kinda hits you between the eyes to realize that the creator of the show you comment on both knows who you are and is interested in what you think, doesn't it? :) For me, not only is Lauren Faust the creator of the show, she's the reason I became aware of the show and decided to check it out.
Well it's possible that she and other staff members might watch fan created things. After all, they are probably fans just like the rest of us. Who knows, it's fun to speculate that they might! Anyways, it's cool at the very least that you had the chance to meet her! Glad you are having a fun time at the convention! Nice plushies!
I absolutely think that of all the staff, current or prior, Lauren Faust would be the most likely to actively dig in to the fan community. She's always been open and accepting of the community and has dug into her previous fandoms in the past with Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home. And after leaving MLP: FiM the way that she did I think that she would be very active in both the lives of the current staff and the lives of the analysis community. MLP was her baby for a long time, even before she was officially hired by Hasbro. I'm fairly certain she would be thrilled with all the different ideas, fanons and conspiracy theories that are being developed by the fandom at large. As someone who writes in his free time I understand the joy of creating something unique. But the true joy I get from writing, creating, or even cooking is when my creation is being enjoyed by someone else. Creators usually crave criticism and confirmation of their work, and the more they see other people enjoying their creations the better they feel about it. It justifies all the work they put into their project and makes it far easier to believe that you've done a good job. And more than that creators are constantly critiquing their own work, always 'looking under the hood' to see what could be tweaked or improved to make the whole experience better. So I definitely think that Lauren Faust and possibly a good chunk of the current writing staff for MLP is aware of the analysis community and lends an ear to what they have to say. Now does that mean they'll ever actually act on the voices of the fandom, or if they do that these motions won't be struck down by the almighty Hasbro? Probably not, copyright problems are numerous for those kinds of situations. But I'd bet good money that Fausticorn and many of the staff of MLP listen to the fandom and the analysis community, and they probably get a lot of joy and inspiration from these videos. In short, I think your suspicions are justified Dr. Wolf. So keep up the good work! After all, 'It's good to be helping." :)
+John Kozloski Of course if you really wanted to be sure about it you could just check your subscriptions and see if Lauren Faust is in there somewhere.
That moment when you realize that someone you respect, whose work you admire, knows you exist and appreciates, in some small way, what you do... I've been there, good Doctor, and not too long ago...
Hello Dr. Wolf I am glad that you got to be Lauren for a short time you are very lucky to meet her and and to be honest I'm not really surprised if Lauren if she knows your channel I mean your channel is gone so high Yosemite subscribers in in a couple of years I'm not surprised of the whole pony stuff and knows about your Channel buffalo want to say.😄👍
The plushies of you and your lady are so cute! It could be a possibility that Lauren knows who some people in the analysis and brony community are since you and many others have made such an impact.
Thank You Lauren Faust for making My Little Pony Friendship is Magic a very good cartoon it was because of your hard work and love I could enjoy great cartoons once again and thank you Dhx and Hasbro for this lovely cartoon I wish the best of luck for Hasbro Dhx and most of all Lauren Faust.
I think they do to be honest. I mean with a show that has been so focused on progressing with the story and at times giving fans what they would like (such as Slice of Life) it's not surprising that they would possibly watch the analysis community.
The notion of show creators, writers and voice actors being aware of and appreciating the incredible work of the brony reviewing community is quite astounding really. The way show has changed and adapted with its audience does suggest that MLP: FiM has been shaped by its much wider brony audience. Imagine if you will, a new "Generation" of MLP is commissioned by Hasbro and it's writers and producers were fans of "Friendship is Magic", how surreal would that be?
I think as dedicated members of the fandom, or more specifically, _content creators_ be that art, music, videos, analysis, or writing, that we all hope that someone prominent is noticing us and our work. I know a lot of people who wish they could just get the attention of even one analysis person. But honestly, we're all just people. I think it's actually easier to talk to someone who is well known if you don't fanboy all over them when you speak to them. Meeting someone who is _very_ prominent is certainly a rare thing. And yes, it's sad that apparently they are not allowed to really discuss things candidly with the fans.
If they weren't aware of it, Slice of Life wouldn't have happened, or all the changes to the toys they are implementing currently (less paisleys, more accurate figures)... and I think the show took a very obvious shift even at the start of season five, taking it up a notch to make sure that the show includes not only important child life lessons but things that the older audience enjoys as well... that can't have happened if they weren't listening. It's true they didn't in the beginning and for several seasons in, but it's obvious they are now... and if they're listening to fan response, it would make sense that they'd be listening to reviews first and foremost.
I wouldn't put it past her. I mean, I have a strong feeling she would be aware, either due to the marketing committee trying to see what people like and don't like about the show, or she does look around and watch various reviews. I mean, saying something like that, either she can tell an analyst when she sees one, or she knows exactly who you are. Either way, you have been graced with her presence and compliment. All the more reason to continue, right?
I definitely think that a lot of the staff watches what a good potion of the fandom does, or at least the more popular members of the fandom, and rather you'll admit it or not doc, you are a part of that popular crowd. Also, is it just me, or is this the first time we've heard Mrs. Wolf speak? I know it's the first time I've heard her speak.
Sometimes, even the upper level people need to hear input from those who are likely to watch/read it most. For example, let's say there's a certain episode from season 5, for which the writer is looking for input. From the executive's viewpoint, the episode is a commercial success, and doesn't say much of what could be improved. A reviewer, such as yourself, might point out where certain parts of the episode could be improved. Even for someone like Faust who is no longer part of the show, for someone like me who is just looking to write, it's well worth it to watch all the hard work you put into your work. Doesn't hurt to have a Faust approved channel either.
Lauren probably does watch a few of them out of curiosity. Her quick comment to you definitely hints that she knows that comment on the show so I would not be surprised if Lauren Faust has seen your channel once.
You lucky wolf, you you just met the creator of the show, wow thats a once in a lifetime opportunity i wish i would meet akira toriyama the creator for dragon ball z just once
I'm sure that most of the current and former MLP staff know of the Brony Analyst group and its members. Maybe they don't specifically watch the reviews due to their contracts, but I'm certain they hear about reviewers from others. It's hard not to be completely blind to the contributions of the fandom and its members since we're so large!
From what I've heard about her I think I have heard that she does look at what the bronies do online and she support the bronies fully. It was cool that you met Lauren Faust I would be way too nervous and shy about meeting her.
It's actually very likely that Hasbro- not just Lauren Faust- has been keeping tabs on what you (and soon, we) reviewers have been up to. Not just the copyright strikes and all that, mind you. Even so, it would actually impress me greatly if they truly come to take into account the considerations the community provides. If, for example, they did see your suggestion about what would happen if the sonic rainboom didn't happen and actually based the Season Five Finale off of that. I don't yet know what to make of it, myself. It's just... intriguing.
i want a plushie of my Pony OC but i can NEVER reach that asking price since i have no job, low patrons and i'll bet the shipping is gonna cost me an arm.
I would be very surprised if the Creators of our favourite show didn't at least have a clue about the Analysit Community. But to think that they follow you, and even appreciate the critique and try to improve on the mentioned pros and cons is something I never through to become a thing.
It wouldn't surprise me, honestly, if she was fully aware of the analysis community. You'd be amazed at how many people on the staffs of many shows are aware. I being a Transformers fan, know for a fact that Hasbro is keeping an eye on the Transformers fandom. So it makes perfect sense that they would for MLP as well. As for the people involved with the show itself, again, no surprise. Scott McNeil, best known for playing Piccolo on DBZ for the Ocean Group Dub, as well as Rattrap, Dinobot, Waspinator, and Silverbolt on Beast Wars, Duo on Gundam Wing, amongst countless other roles, is well aware of the people who watch the shows he works on, and has stated that the staff of those shows also known. That includes MLP as he did play Chief Thunderhoof and one of the dog-like-troll critters in season one. (It's been a while, I forgot what they're called). Peter Cullen and Frank Welker are also VAs who know of the Transformers fandom, they being the voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively. Honestly, there are so many, like for Star Trek, the cast are aware of the fans. Needless to say, Disney is well aware of it's fans, and so on. So I would not be the least bit surprised to learn the staff of MLP would be the same. Nay, I fully expect that they would be.
Sethisto needs to get some sleep, doesn't he? Hopefully his neighbors won't make too much of a ruckus, and I do like the plushes. Still, when you talked to Ms. Faust, did you get anything interesting from her regarding Them's Fighting Herds?
Well John de Lancie mentioned one time that he had watched a video from KP's channel. So I'm sure that they're watching some of the fandom videos. They're just discreet about it.
Hasbro has been attacking many brony channels so they are aware and im sure Lauren Faust would like to see how the fans appreciate MLP she maybe one of your subscribers without realising.
+Star Pit wasn't that sony music entertainment (SME) if your talking about the most recent one? but yes, i've heard of the abuse of fair use from hasbro too
+Star Pit Well, Molinomous has a bad rep, and the only people who don't realize that are his fans... and he himself. Whether you choose to believe this or not, the vast majority of people who get attacked by Hasbro, not Sony or "the people who hold the French DVD rights" but legit Hasbro, are among the worst of the community. Not in content necessarily, but in action, how they act and their relationship with Hasbro. Basically, they tend to go after the most jerky members of the community. The one overly publicized event, JanAnimations, was publicized because he was known as the opposite of jerky and rude.
Star Pit I don't know about anything that recent, disregarding an incident with FNGR the guy thought would take down his channel (which was apparently just Moli screwing with him).
Yeah, of course (at least some of) the show staff watches videos and reviews from the fandom. If I were working on a TV show I know _I_ would certainly want to know what others thought of it, and what better way to get constructive criticism than by watching videos of recognized critics in the fandom reviewing your work? That's really cool though that Faust knew who you were.
I think it is possible for the show staff to know about the reviewing and analyst community since it has grown so much and I would like to think that the people who created something would like to know how other people think of your work. Whether it be in the form of comments, reviews, or even reactions, I'd like to think that they do in someway know about it. The only difficultly in it is that they may be obligated to say that they don't watch fan content or say they look at advice from the fans. After all, the only way to know whether or not a person has ever seen any of the stuff that you produced is simply to ask them. I think a good example of this is with KP's video about John de Lancie, even though she made the video for him, she never knew if he had ever seen the video for the longest time. But that might be a little different since the video was originally made for John to watch himself. Still, know that the creator of something that you like commenting on a review or a reaction that you make on their work is always an exciting feeling and it makes you feel more confident on making more of those videos on their work. Wow, that's a lot of words I just typed. Sorry.
She's no longer associated with the show, so she is free to do what she wants. If I were in her place, I'd be curious to hear what people think of my creation.
Hey Doc, I have a friend who went through a breakup a few months ago, he has moments where he's okay, but today we talked and he's talking to her again, but he's not happy, he wants to be with her again, the way it was before they broke up. What you do in your AMWDW videos is what I want to do as a career, but I don't know how to help him. He's contemplating suicide, I was able to help him a bit but I don't know what else to do to help him...
I also feel as though it's the same way with other franchises/series/etc. Perhaps parts of the team really DO see what the media says about their work and report back to the others. Or maybe that's just a complicated idea.
Honestly? With how much into the community I have heard her being. I would be supprised if she hasnt checked out atleast a few of the reviews. I know from asking other media individuals I have met that they normally are aware of those that might review their work and in some cases monitor the reviews regularly. With how populat MLP has gotten with the older fans I would not be remotely supprised if many of the staff watch/read reviews on episodes frequently.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did. They aren't allowed to say one way or another, but the show has definitely incorporated elements from the fandom into itself, and its growing more overt with it as time goes on. Some of the show staff have even participated in fan-made projects, like M.A Larson and the voice actresses of the CMC with the Bronies React videos, or DeLancie with his brony documentary. Plus there is also the aspect of wanting to know whats being said about you and your work. There are celebrities who've attested to having to stay away from social media because they've been terribly addicted to reading all the comments about them. I'd imagine the same could be applied to the show staff. Who WOULDN'T want to see what people thought of an episode you wrote? I wouldn't be surprised if Faust watched your videos, but I also wouldn't let it change how you make content (not that I think you would). People can get a bit of stage fright when someone they admire watches them perform, but the best way to handle that is to just do it exactly as you normally would.
+RU-vid, All I want to do is watch a video, stop making me update. Wow you didn't even say anything about the Dr. Wolf plushie looks like you finally got over your obsession. Who even needs a Dr. wolf plushie anyway sure is cute with is big green and blues, silk vest, and tiny glasses and is soft cotton fur would feel nice rubbing against your face while snuggle with it when you sleep, but you don't need any of that you just fine without it you don't need a Dr. Wolf plushie to be happy.
Lauren Faust watch Dr.Wolf? ur silly or what? She not only watch she is proud of u. U give her more and more reasons to whrite new epizodes, new characters etc. Have a nice day dear Dr.
Wow, I can understand how that was a sobering thought. Imagining that fricking Lauren Faust might actually be subscribed to your channel with an anonymous account... I don't know how to describe what I imagine that must feel like. Imagine that she's maybe even posting the occasional comment and you're not responding to her. XD
Knowledge is nothing hidden and prevented from being exposed. In clearer words I just want to express my own personal thought on your last statement with a few points of my own. What is it that all people in the world from enclosed Asian countries, to cold and isolated regions, or even bustling and busy parts of the world share? Well for my answer I would say every one shares a piece of moral consciousness and humanistic traits that we all have.
Uh it's not really a surprise. It's not like creators don't watch others content. I think I remember Jack Black once mentioned Screen Junkies in the Oscars.
