I absolutely love Jamie’s parents. So kind, thoughtful, intelligent, articulate and caring. I wish every trans kid or adult had parents like Christine & Malcolm Raines. I’ve shared this video with at least 4 friends whose kids are going through transition in the USA, where parental attitudes towards sexuality & gender can be so much harder for parents to address or accept. Jamie, please know how much you & your parents have helped other trans kids, teens & adults…

I’m a mum, and i hope I can be as wonderful as your parents!!! These are what parents should be. I teach my kids that gender isn’t just black and white, we are open about sexuality and LGBTQ+ (age appropriate) I want them to know I will love them for who they are, and who they choose to love.

Your parents are so supportive. My mum is in her own way supportive of me being a lesbian. But it's honestly a bit insulting to me. She says things like. Well even if you turn out to be gay, I'm okay with that, but I don't think you can know until you've been in a relationship with a girl. I'm still in an early stage of coming out and I feel very awkward when I talk about it, so I find it difficult to tell my mom that I really am gay.

I can relate. My mom is generally accepting, but she's somewhat confused with all the newly talked about identities. I once talked about intersex people with her, and how biological sex consists of many factors, and she was both interested in the new information, and dissappointed that she wasn't taught anything about it when she was in school. She was like she had been bethrayed. 😂 But she's a bit sceptical about non-binary people for example, she once said, "I wonder if androgyny is somehow trendy now?" And I felt a bit offended, as an androgynous woman, (and I didn't begin to explain to her how androgyny and non-binary are different) but I just answered, "I think people just have more vocabulary now", or something like that, and she didn't disagree. I have recently realized I have a crush on a woman, but I don't know if I'll tell my mom before I find out what my crush thinks about me and how things really are between us. I haven't talked to my mom much about my crushes in general, so it's awkward.

I'm not out to my parents, and don't think I ever will be, but my best friends know my proper name and pronouns, and it makes my day whenever they are used. I hope you have a great day, and thank you for being an amazing human being! - Percy 💙

As a trans-parent, I would also advise other trans-parents to tune out the political and religious nonsense, and read up as much as possible on the scientific/medical journal articles on trans. They will relieve you of any guilt you may have, as science understands this phenomenon to be either 100 percent genetic or a result of a hormone surge in the uterus during fetal development. But do your own medical/ scientific research; it helps a lot.
@LoreCatan

I've probably watched this video 3 times by now. Your parents just seem so genuine and kind, and they obviously love you so much. It's really encouraging to see how accepting and proud they are of you. (Also, seeing Benji being a cutie-pie in the background is a bonus. Such a good boy!) I'm still debating on if I'll ever come out to my parents. On one hand, I know they hold a lot of transphobic sentiments, mostly because of their conservative religion. On the other hand, I also know most of their knowledge on trans people is founded on misunderstanding, and that despite our ideological differences, they love me a lot. I used to be adamant about "oh, I'll just never ever tell them" but now I'm at least starting to consider it. In a safe, "write a letter, leave it in their mailbox in the middle of the night, and then turn off my phone for 3 days while they process it" sort of way, lol Watching videos of how your loved ones are so encouraging and accepting makes me feel better as I'm starting to let some of my friends find out, and your videos in general have been a lifesaver for a baby trans. Also, I *swear* I am capable of writing comments that are less rambly, over-sharing, and emotional. Theoretically. Maybe. My point here was that your parents are good and deserve all the good things in the world. :)

omg my mom kinda had the same point about having worries as a parent, she told me that has a parent you're just worried for your child because you want them to be happy and be treated well and you don't want them to come to harm, so worried in that way. I love seeing other parents say that.

i wish my parents were as accepting as yours...mine think it's an "idea" or something I "chose" to be. they keep telling me to Pray pray pray. I'm so sick of it. I always felt like a boy. ALWAYS. Back in the day i had no idea how to express it or tell anyone about it. I followed gender roles because i wanted to be accepted into society even though i did not feel comfortable. I do plan to talk about this more in one of my first videos but i like have a shity camera or my webcam on my laptop. it's a slow start ik. I also feel scared to even show my face. I will try my best to start an LGBTQ+ safe space on my channel. If anyone would like to help me out with tips and advice i would love that!

I think if your parents are willing they should provide some form of contact so that other parents could discuss this with them because they are so open, understanding and very intelligent about it which really impressed me.

Your parents are so sweet! It's really lovely to see supportive parents plus they have great accents! I wonder what made them so open to your transition; like were they raised that way or develop their views later in life before you came out. In my experience I've seen a lot of resistance with older parents and individuals.

Thought I'd share this with my parents. (I'm trans too) Did not go down well at all. They were just super eager for the video to be over. Sigh. I often feel they're just humouring me and just want to avoid the subject. We didn't even get through the whole video. D=

ive seen some videos with parents of trans kids where they seem apprehensive to talk even though they supported their child, idk why they do that and theres no shame bc theres tons of reasons, but it was really nice to see parents who were extremely at ease and talked so extensively. i think thats really helpful to parents of trans folks to see. also i didnt expect the scottish accents i love it!!! love mr and mrs raines

@Dusty Ganilla hostages? Not sure what kind of relationship you have with your parents, but some of us have good relationships with ours and we talk about things. Jamie's parents are obviously supportive and mine have been too. It's nice to talk about things that are important to us with our families. You should try it sometime.

This is how all parents should react. This is what parents should be. It's disgusting that any parent would shame, harm or disown their own kid for being LGBT. These two are such winners.

There’s a man in my office who I think is seeing his child transition, female to male. I’ve asked him about it and he doesn’t seem to believe in it. He says he just avoids all pronouns and calls them by a nickname. The frustrating thing is that I only see this guy’s perspective of this so my suspicions may be entirely wrong and really it’s none of my business, I’ve never met the kid. I’d love to see him embrace what’s happening rather than avoid it.

Wow they are really supportive... I came out to my mom and her first major worry was the money lol. She doesn't even call me by my pronouns or name and wants me to make sure this is what I want (Like I understand she wants the best, don't get me wrong. But like.. Doctor? Can we talk to someone ? Can you call me your son???) Edit: Ugh before anyone says shit thats my dead name, hey I'm Leon. This is for work/school..
