The toilet joke was great. Come on after all that was said and done and i forgot about that guy. He comes storming out of that toilet. That was good comedy
I really liked BJ’s backstory of how his father was an abusive racist. That reveal made his hatred of nazis far more personal and actually fits really well. Which makes it even more painful that we got cheated out of a great game. Seriously, what the hell happened to the amazing writing, tone and feel of the first two games?!
44:19 In the Old Blood BJ is able to get into Castle Wolfenstein by saying "hotdog" when he was questioned. In the New Order he was able to escape the Panzerhund by Wyatt throwing it a grenade like a dog playing fetch. Main point: Nazi incompetence was in the other games too, not just this one.
Thing is that it makes sense for the Nazis to get more and more incompetent. This is actually exactly what happened to France after WWI. They won, and they completely went drunk on victory. They did absolutely nothing to prepare their military for a new conflict, because they believed that "We are on top of the world, there will be no wars, why spend on the military when there will be no major conflicts?"
One of my favorite pieces of world building in the game, is one letter that you can find during a side quest, where you must kill a Nazi officer so brutal he got the nickname “the butcher”. In that letter you read about how this one Nazi was in his youth a true believer and murdered for them a ton of people and was even promoted for it. At that time two things happened. Firstly he learned that all that tech he was so proud of, was stolen, the Germans invented nothing of value. Which made him question if Germans truly were the superior ones and if the whole thing was just nonsense. He could have lived with that but then he became a father and thought about the legacy he was leaving behind. He was a monster, working for an evil empire and he was finally realizing it. Basically ending the letter by saying. That he realized that he was on the wrong side of history here and that if the Terror Billy is real, that he won’t come as a devil but as gods Angel of justice doing to him what he deserves. This letter was written by the butcher, the man you are about to drive a tomahawk into the head for the mission. I like it because I like the idea that this man was able to realize that the whole Nazi thing was nonsense from the start, but he was basically forced into a wrong world view because of when and where he was born. In a way he was unlucky because clearly if he were born at a different time or difference circumstances, he would have opposed and fought the Nazis to the death alongside BJ. And he got to that mental state on his self, no external influences beyond the facts needed. But because of the fact that he did horrendous things, his story ends with irony. Him realizing that god will send an emissary of justice and that he will deserve what we will do to him. If they were made a true sequel of New Colosseus, I kinda want to see this as a major plot line.
One funny thing Bethesda overlooked, is the "fights" with BJ's Father and Frau Engel, they clearly didn't know what to do if you survived the second dubble barrel round, so he just has infinite shells in the gun. Frau Engel just has an unlimited magazine.
@@Neutralrealist8545 It's just my opinion. Don't get me wrong I love the New Collosus, I just prefer the old blood. But if you prefer Colossus I can see why.
22:45 You can just press g and the game points you to the exact direction you need to go, which is teached in the first 5 seconds of the wheelchair mission (literally). This is not hating btw I'm loving the video I just wanted to point that out.
Except for difficulty settings, which is the equivalent of Halo 2's lazy Difficulty design. Basically peekaboo shots when its difficulties beyond normal.
I loved that little interaction with the German soldier and the two Americans. It was the highlight of the game for me, wholesome in its own weird way.
there's a lot of moments like those in the game which i find nice, you can just skip it and ignore it if you want but you can stay and listen to some enemy conversations
wolfenstein 2 killed my grandma, robbed me at gunpoint and dropped a comedically large grand piano on me. Thank you for bringing attention to how terrible this game is
Minor correction since I haven't seen anyone make this correction yet: The Wolfenstein II soundtrack is actually comprised of various artists and not just Mick Gordon, the Frau Engel track you mentioned was composed by Martin Stig Andersen who alongside Mick make up most of the OST.
38:50 the whole "50/100hp" is likely an aesthetic choice, the enemies and the encounters are most likely still balanced against the same metrics across the game, adjusted for natural player power progression and a gradual rise of difficulty to up the ante.
It's actually balanced by the fact that you can get up to 200 armor during the first part (because of the Da'at Yichud power suit). The 50hp critique is kinda silly.
@@NypotetYes, you get 200 armour max, but the level design isn't tailored to that. There aren't enough armour pickups to fully take advantage of the new cap
@@Nypotetthe point isn’t about numbers, it’s about how it feels bad and frustrating to be made of paper and be forced to stealth every encounter on higher difficulties
The worst part of the courtroom trial was stoping the game dead if you did not start the fight... everyone just stood their doing nothing... forever... And dying in that fight would make you have to do it all again from scracth... even though that would be parfect oportunity to jump to the "it was all a dream" part I died like 10 times on that level, and every time I had to do it all over again
Yeah, that would have been cool! Like the last level in Halo Reach: you cannot win but you can see how many Nazis you can kill before you'll get overpowered
I liked the game. I like the combat, I think the graphics are cool. The villain is a total insane monster, Frau Engel. It was awesome taking her down at the end.
Not gonna lie. Other than the story criticisms. A lot of your complaints seem to stem from not paying attention or personal opinion. Hot Nail SMG buffs its damager and improves its armor piercing. It shreds enemies in dual wield. You can get markers telling you where to go on the U-Boat. The ground slam you complain about is literally followed by you walking over another ground slam vent (A mechanic I was very happy for during my high skill playthroughs). Complaining about the halved health and stuff seemed dumb and I never once had an issue with it, you even make the point of him being a walking corpse. Good video. I just feel like you went into this game wanting to hate it
Wolfenstein II still does a lot of things right, like, the Gunplay, Setting, Music and we cant forget the opening Chapter and everything about The Courthouse, you gotta admit the game is awesome despite its flaws
If they want to make a succesful Wolfenstein III then what they have to do is: 1- ignore youngblood story 2- make it about WWIII the rematch of the allies against the nasties but this time with even tech. 3-Show us how BJ kills the funny mustache man.
that is quite literally all they'd need to make it a good game, and ofc get rid of that shitty gameplay from young blood, its not bad but compared to literally the previous games its horrible
i personally thought wolfenstein 2 was an excellent game however wasnt as good as new order and the changes that it brought were terrible foreshadowing to what youngblood would play like
@@denlomoe9406 way to overexaggerate 🤡, the gameplay is awesome. The cutscenes are well animated and the voice acting is on point. Spoiled little gamer boy, go play TLOU 2 or something.
Its a wierd fuck of a game, but i can be atleast grateful for that first playthrough and atleast keeping me coming back atleast once a year. Also you really killed it with the editing, scripting and pacing this time, good job m8!
Duuuuuude what do you mean Venus is literally THE reason I like this game, it is so fkin cool. Aesthetically is amazing and playable wise it is every part of Wolfenstein 2 being tuned to the max. Yes it is difficult but it is an endgame area. It is supposed to be this way. For the suit heat mechanic, it has never really run out for me since it just takes sooooo much time to do so. I have speedrunned the game on mein leben where you need to be quite careful and playing safe is sometimes better than playing fast, and in there you never even have to worry about the suit because most of the level is inside the installations anyways. It also has probably my favorite ambiental and combat OST (outside of the last soundtrack before this mission). I remember when I played Wolfenstein the new order and the moon mission was REALLY dissapointing. It is so short and graphically it is just some white and grey installations, with almost no time spent outside of these.
Agreed the Moon mission in the new order was just kinda there, and i didnt like the energy gun gimicks honestly ,due to how long it takes for the recharge station animation to begin and end lmao(Its a nitpick but it has annoyed me a lot)
I liked it personally especially the concept art you can find also the gun play and movement is the best in the series If it had a better story it would have easily been the best wolfenstein I would say they can improve but after seeing Youngblood I have no hope
I find it interesting to that even people who liked this game hate youngblood. What bad does youngblood do, that this game doesnt? For transparency, im team 'fuck the new colossus'
30:35 1. You made that manual save so that is on you 2. You played on normal and the armor will cap to 200. It should not be that difficult for a pro gamer like yourself (seriously it isn't going to affect you that much).
For all of the shortfalls in the writing and storyline, you cant fault that the gameplay loop is brilliant. I loved going back and experimenting new ways to kill Nazis. And the satisfaction of beating the game on IADI was one of my all-time favourite moments.
In my opinion, the strangest thing about this game is that BJ's execution was completely inconsequencial, changing literally nothing in the story - there was actually no reason whatsoever for it to even happen, and it just makes everything so much messier Literally, the only thing that would change in the narrative if the courtroom section wasn't a dream, is the fact that BJ wouldn't get a new body - one could argue that the Venus movie audition would not take place either, but I mean, why would they not make a propaganda movie against the state's biggest enemy either way?
Honestly I never played the first wolfenstein game, but I absolutely loved this one. I thought it was fun, had funny moments and the graphics were great for its time. Great video though
I haven't played this game but I can not believe the writing. So Grace gives this long speech stressing the horror of nuclear weapons and what she saw. But then her first suggestion for the resistance is to nuke a millitary base. Would she not want to find another way? Literally any other way?
Because 4chan. They decided to push the narrative that a game about killing Nazis was woke, and thus the game is nothing more than a liberal psyop. Probably out of boredom.
Honestly, I'm sad that I agree with you here. At its core, I adore this game, but the out of place goofiness really killed the immersion for me - I never felt like enacting revenge against the occupying forces was a place for ~groovy~ and silly bits, felt like it was supposed to just be dark and depressing because... well.. it would be?
Doomslayer is a descendant of Blazko. Not the other way around. Anyway, one of this game's strongest features are the characters' mentality. Especially Grace, Frau Engel, and Rip are are extremely historically realistic. The entire cutscene at the beginning with Rip going on about how other races are trying to rob the white man: That was the mentality of the time. Same with Grace. having seen such a heavy ammount of traumatizing shit... I can forgive her for jumping subjects like that. It's goofy, for sure, but it''s played like someone who is seriously trying to distract themselves from thinking too much about the horrors witnessed. She also acts like a Black Panther member, which further cements her in historical authenticity. Even spech, which I loathe, even he is rooted in authenticity. Just listen to actual conspiracy theorists. Probably why we hate him so much. As for Engel... well, give the mentally deranged positions of power, and they will do just that, like many of the actual SS commanding officers. However, the other backdrops made it feel insufferable. Just like in real life, where dialogue between three people can have varying levels of depth. Back to the good. Loved hearing Bombate again. I enjoyed his dialoges a lot, because they were neither serious, nor over the top. Got to commend them for having a middle road. Him hooking up with Sigrun felt real as well. There was a german POW who fell in love with a dark-skinned army nurse. They stayed together after his release. And finally, Sigrun. Seeing her snap after being judged based on the sins of her mother, and actually stand up for herself... it felt good.
According to John Romero and Tom Hall, B.J. Blazkowicz is Commander Keen's Grandfather, and Doom Guy is Keen's Grandson He has also said that Blazkowicz (Doomguy) may be several generations, many years into the future.
After how great TNO and TOB were, I pre-ordered this in a heartbeat. After playing TNC, I didn't pre-order another game until Robocop: Rogue City. This game threw out everything I liked about the previous games, wasted an interesting setting, and somehow made the shooting feel worse than the pervious two. I still don't understand what happened with this game, but I haven't played a Bethesda-produced game since this one.
@@TacoWrath95 the only game i preordered in my entire life, was doom eternal. And i played 6khours. From the day it came out to early 2023 i played it every single day. Now i play it sometimes
the fact that you can't skip every cut scene in the game is it is very frustrating on repeating play throughs and it's missing so many things from the previous games like chapter select new game plus in a few more things
nailgun weapon mod for the maschinenpistole is actually quite overpowered ESPECIALLY when compared to the peashooter that is the default smg!!! the only thing that has going for it is the internal suppressor which is quite lame. sure the nailgun mod fires quite slow with the bullets becoming projectiles buuut when dual wielded its absolutely devastating against every common enemy
The new colossus is also a reference to emma lazarus’ poem on the inside of the statue of liberty and is called the new colossus and is about how america welcomes immigrants it’s clever you see- ah never mind
Literally this guy thought the nail gun is a bad upgrade lol it literally doubles the damage of the SMG if you dual wield them they melt most enemies. It’s also best to pair it with the internal suppressor.
not to say your video is bad, but lots of cognitive bias in this review i feel like you could have explained your reasoning on why the venus section is frustrating better? on nightmare i struggled a lot more with the courtroom section, and in previous games the bridge section, hitscan enemies are also the norm in the game. or explaining why the fight aboard the air ship is not a great fight? it's the big setpiece battle of the game and you just skim over it when you first complained how the game has too many rote, throwaway sections built in repetitive environments
8:30 im not sure 100% but that "audio profile:cinema" probably means low/no compression aka high dynamic range, a lot of games have this and it will just blow out your ears with sound fx. as a side note i do like it when you can change the mix yourself, i had to drop down sound fx in neodoom games to be able to proper hear the soundtrack, and in a lot of games general you need to boost the music just to be able to differentiate the bars from one another
idk why everyone says that the representation of the nasty leader is awesome, remember, this old kind of stupid, silly, crazy old man is the guy we as the player all the resistance, america and Europe lost and keep losing, what machine games meant by that?
Literally with all that tech and the worlds money at his fingertips youre telling me he wouldn't be at perfect health? One of the reasons TNC feels more like a comedy to me.
The best part of Wolfenstein 2 is that the guy from Arizona is an alternate version of Ronald Reagan (although Reagan never lived in Arizona and he’s way younger than Reagan should be in 1961 so it’s a bit odd)
This game was written by people who can write a masterpiece but at the same time have imposter syndrome so they put poop jokes all over the game because they think it would improve their already fantastic writing while not realizing how they are fucking up the writing
I'm new to this channel, ao whilst i'm unsure why you chose to dot this entire video with predominantly Ratchet & Clank 1 music throughout, I have to say regardless, I thoroughly approve. Great taste sir, carry on.
This is my personal opinion, but I really enjoyed utilizing stealth in TNC (and in TNO as well, although running and gunning was more enjoyable because you don't die easily even on the highest difficulty). When I started to run through the game on higher difficulties, learning and memorizing the areas felt very rewarding while also being immersive. That being said I do wish there was more visual variety in the areas, I have minor gripes with the story, but I really enjoy the game overall. Btw there are signs by most of the doorways in the eva's hammer. It's layout is kind of horrendous but I never had trouble navigating it because of that.
that and press hint key to get an objective marker if you're really lost. It's literally right there in the bindings menu but no one will pay attention to that i guess
@@cocobolocabinet literally I dunno how anyone can get lost lol. The first hint the game gives you is literally how to show the objective marker I guess people just want to complain for the sake of complaining.
Tbh I think having BJ locked at 50 before he gets power armor would've made sense, but once you get it, it brings you back to the full 100, then the supersoldier body brings you up to 200 so you can actually feel like a damn supersoldier at the end
I honestly enjoyed nee colossus more than new order The story was peak And complaining about difficulty is stupid cuz skill issue and you can change the difficulty level
True, and unlike the new order every single level is super well done and feels really fair, plus when you have 50 health the game also lets you have 200 armor, idk why people complain about that. Also the story is amazing, although the tone can get a little jarring when it suddenly shifts
I don´t get the hate that TNC gets. Even with tinkering in the engine.ini file TNO runs like utter dogshit on PC, and TNC runs just straight up PERFECT even on potato systems - just like Doom 2016 does. MUCH better engine. TNO was borderline unplayable on my RX480, and even on the RTX 3060 I have now, it is still bad. Drops frames constantly, not smooth at all. TNO runs like butter in comparison. Yeah, the story is goofy, and they kinda negate the previous games in that regard, but I MUCH prefer the gameplay, gunplay, soundtrack and gun sound effects in TNC. We don´t talk about Wolfenstein: Youngblood, though, that game was horrible...
It´s well known fact that TNO runs like shit on many systems. Google it. I don´t know why it does it on my system, but it does, and it´s very distracting and ruins my immersion and experience of the game. People have different experiences and focus on different things, deal with it. Yes, it has a better story, but the lack of optimization is just straight up ruining the game for me. I gave it a chance several times, even tried tweaking engine files as stated, still runes like utter shit! @@hombreg1
It seems like wolfenstein 2 couldn't commit to the seriousness of what the story demanded. The highlights of the game are the most serious and heartfelt parts, along with the weakness of the new characters. Many of these characters could've been well beloved but don't do much outside of their first appearance. (I heard a review of the story back when the game came out that said you should've had a choice to spare the father only for him to witness the farm being torn apart).
As GmanLives once said and with complete honesty: ,,I can really shit on this game until I run out of toilet paper, but I've done it enough in another video"
37:40 Moments like these are the reason why its so hard to take this game seriously. You cant have serious and dark storytelling when the main character literally gets decapitated and still lives after that, hell, he not only lives but becomes even stronger! *By being decapitated!*
Tbf, this is in a franchise with a Nazi takeover coming back from overwhelming defeat, zombies, laser guns, death robots, *giant* death robots, genetically enhanced supersoldiers with jetpacks, spaceships capable of interplanetary travel, stations on freakin' Venus, and Wyatt/Fergus *survive* in a brain jar at full mental capacity after *16* years, all in the 1960s. Honestly, BJ surviving decapitation is pretty 'lax in comparison.
@@peterkershaw11 On paper, sure, but in practice it ruins the stakes of the game. Going to venus is very much fiction, but it its not a problem because it doesnt mess with the stakes, hell, its kinda cool. This is an issue because it nullifies any of the dangers or stakes the game had. Why should i even be afraid of dying if they probably have cloning tech too at this rate?
@nemtudom5074 why should you even fight because the nazis have nukes. Not to mention the feat to even save your head and reattach it. It's cool and subversive
That soft lock thing happened to me on the same train mission except it was in the ending area of the mission (or close to it) I was getting shot at all angles and decided to dash for the cover of the next car, the game auto saved like 2 seconds before I got shot😂 I almost pulled up the previous save (which was at the beginning of the train) but decided to risk it and by the time I finally beat it, I felt like John wick. I had like 3 health and two heavy armored enemies behind me and had to hit them both before they hit me 😂 it was so hard but I felt so accomplished after
Caroline.... my life, mein leben, mein kampf. I knew there would be one. Ragucci he is a god. He did it, three weeks and he earned the platinum for Wolfenstein II, he is the future.
wolfenstein 2 singe handedly commited genocide against my races killed my mother infront of my very own eyes and took over my countries goverment so they can legally torment me in every way possible thank you for showing the world what horrors this game has done
I played this wolfenstein first than the new order (I kind of went backwards) but I really loved how Blazko is portrayed in the game and all the little dialogs he has along the game, like you know he is not just a Nasties killing machine, but a man who would make the world burn just to get the happy end he deserves with his loved ones.
