Man, this brings such cool and also terrible northern California memories, I was fourteen (I am 73 now) when i started listening to Wolfman Jack in the "innocent" years of the mid sixties when one started with a six pack of Coors Banquet and cigarettes and went on to other stuff until the later Vietnam and heroin years until I almost died and went to prison and even there Wolfman Jack comforted us; the dude was real. I was out in eight years and nothing was the same; not me nor Wolfman Jack nor the world I had grown up in. We had to go up to the highest Watsonville hills to be able to get FM on our radios so those hills became THE spot for many.
The Wolfman saved my soul . I was 14 yrs old or so and II heard him playing My Babe by Little Walter one early morning on XPRS and I flipped out ! Up until then I was a Stones maniac ; but it all changed I turned into a Bluesman then and there, Bought my first guitar and grew up loving the BLUES !!!! THANK YOU WOLFMAN JACK ...
Wolfman Jack could bring you out of depression, put a smile on your face, and put on a show of shows. His message was for everyone. He loved us all, which he made known, night after night on XERB, XPRS, powerhouse radio stations. Wolfman Jack, No one will ever take the place of you. RIP My Friend !
Oh, I had a little radio with the little dial on the side to turn it on, that used batteries with a little strap on it, and I had to tune in a station on a little read out dial. Those were transister radios, I suppose. We were on cloud nine in the sixties if we could get a little radio like that under the Christmas tree.
wolfman Jack you was the best thing to grace our radios rock n roll baby give me some more ya got the one wolfman Jack showing saying be back tomorrow night til then be true n love one another bye bye
He's what is missing in radio today. Someone to take you to another place just with words, his soul and his voice. I got to admit, I got a little choked up listening to this track. Yep, the world is a little sadder without the Wolfman around to guide us through the night.
Yeah he's fifty-seven when he died of a heart attack. I can't say that I remember show but I do remember Dreyfuss playing them in that American graffiti movie. And I saw him do Cameo spots on many different TV shows including Scooby-Doo. I guess in today's world people can use drugs too cheaply take themselves to another place. Sad.
@@CAROLDDISCOVER-FINDER2525 It was smoking that ended the Wolfman's life. On the day he died, he just came home from a gig, he kissed his beloved wife, "The Wolfwoman", alias Louise "Lou" Smith, and then he sat down to have a Camel cigarette. It was his last moment of pleasure before his heart finally gave out. The Wolfman loved his Camels, but they were a danger to his health, sadly. R.I.P., Wolf, and bless you for the memories.
WOW! What a Soulful ending to the Wolfman Jack show. Wolfman Jack was Pop Music, Wolfman Jack was R&B/Soul Music, and Wolfman Jack was Rock-n-Roll Music. He played it all! When I was a kid, watching him on TV and hearing him on the radio was always a real treat. He played all my favorite Rock-n-Soul Songs. I work in radio and I miss him!
At lunch with Art Ferguson (Charlie Tuna) a lotta years ago he told us with pure respect that Wolfman Jack was the most honest man in the business. They’d done projects together and looked forward to doing more. Bless ‘em both!
played this as part of my dad's video tribute, at his Celebration of Life almost 10 yrs ago. When it started playing, folks were looking around, wondering... by its end, not a dry eye to be found. Very special rendition by The Wolfman!
I remember, years ago i used to listen USAF's Base radio station in Hellinico Athens Greece ,from a small radio ,and he's voice transferred me to USA. He was the only one!
I remember the oldies show in upstate New York . I DJ'd for him while he was on a break. He was kind, funny, and warm. He made listening to radio fun...R.I.P. Wolfman... Tony Angel
Growing up in Southern California, Wolfman Jack is a staple in the memories of my youth. I can tell you all the times of listening to him lying in bed on my AM radio, on K-Earth, or 93 KHJ
What he did was being such a good person and sharing his talent with the world and making people feel better by doing what he did on the radio sometimes you can never forget such cool things that he did so in saying that wolfman Jack was truly a legend he also had a book come out a number of years ago and it looked pretty good it was called a have mercy if you ever get a chance check it out there was also a wolfman Jack Wolf radio cartoon a long time ago I'm just surprised it was never mentioned in his book it wasn't but it should have been
@@mikebastoni4490he was a radio disc jockey that happened to find his groove at the right time and the right place. You'll be quite out of place in the modern day
From uk . And in old kissimmee in 1992. Sat outside his bar. And he came and sat down .and chatted for half an hour about the old cars parked on his frontage. Seemed a real nice bloke
I USED TO LISTEN TO WOLFMAN JACK AT MIDNIGHT HOURS BACK IN THE 70'S WHEN LOCAL RADIO STATIONS WERE OFF AND THEN THE RADIO AIR WAVES A.M. COMING FROM THE U.S. TOUCHED MY HOMELAND ON AND OFF IN LOS MOCHIS SINALOA MEXICO. ENJOYING HIS BEAUTIFUL VARIETY OF MUSIC.
So sorry to infringe on your privacy, Its said that 'A picture is worth a thousand words, but when I saw yours, it was more than words could explain. The charming profile is irresistible, though a little personal message but your look tells a lot about a nice person...so I had to drop a message to the charming person with this great profile. Just want to know you better and be a friend or more. Hope to hear from you sometime.
that's my past in Germany in 70th, US soldiers in our country have been our friends and AFN radio I listened in the last evening, Wolfman Jack with his speech and jokes I loved it, it's amazing to hear this after more than 40 years
Thanks to the corporate take over of radio and its intentional blanding of content, there will never be a DJ like the Wolfman again. Sad. Truly sad. Thank god I was fortunate to grow up in Southern California during the 60's and 70's. I got to hear the Wolfman on the Mighty 1090. Thanks for being part of my youth Wolfman!
FORMULAS and CONSULTANTS the beginning of the end of Rock Radio. WONDER what happened to all them FORMULAS ? Did they save Rock Radio? Ha Ha it's really funny. PLUS there are TOO MANY STATIONS.
And do you all remember Margie, his sidekick?! I used to listen to The Wolfman every night under my covers so that my mom wouldn't hear. Miss those days more than I can say. 🎶🎶
Hi dear, do you know, that i wrote the same comment like your's 5 minutes ago? What's this? Telepatia?😂😂😂😂 I love you! You had the same childhood like me with a mother, that don't wanted us to hear the radio at latenight.....😂😂😂 i understand you totally! Ciao da Roma❤❤❤
He was the greatest DJ when I was a kid to a teen. Once we found the channel we cruised, jumped from car to car, but what's funny it was fun. No hard drugs, little Strawberry Hill for some. Oh these 50's, and 60's wow. Wish just once kids could relieve all this. Different times. Computer instead of a DJ ruined radio to some point. Not as good, but still we have a few oldies yet. Loving Wolfman Jack. RIP baby.
Linda Granados WLAC Radio,Nashville,TN. 50s to 60s. AM 50000 watt clear channel station. 14 years young South Georgia. John Richbourg(Big JR);Gene Nobles. 1am Herman Grizzard-theme song "After Hours". Glad came along when I did. 80 years old teenager.
The future is now, you old whores. Your time was up long ago and it's never, ever coming back. Bring on the internet and the prescription drugs, cause we're about to get wild. Just stay out of our way!
@@SomeOne-zx4jx I was just messing. I actually think the masks are retarded, along with 95% of the Democrat party. Just trying to get in some free speech while its still allowed
I wish there was still great disc jockey personalities. They added so much more to the music. We had a lot of greats here in Pittsburgh. RIP Wolfman Jack, and RIP radio.
I was a board operator at a small hometown radio station that aired his syndicated radio show Saturdays in the 70s. Went to see debut of AMERICAN GRAFITTI & first thing after the movie heard on car radio was THE WOLFMAN ! That was so wierd and cool ! MISS YA WJ
Him and Danny Williams on WKY in OK City were my favorites. Later I came to enjoy Casey Kasem, and Carmon Dragon. God rest them all. Fine gentlemen, all.
Loved the Wolfman, Listen to him just about every night when XERB would come booming in to Northern California when the sun would set...Cruising in my 1950 and later 1956 Ford in the late 60's...RIP Wolfman.
When I was a kid, my older brother and I would listen to him on Saturday nights at around midnight (we lived in Queens, NY at the time). Don't remember whether he was live, or if we were listening to a rebroadcast. I have 't heard anyone like him since.
I still love the Wolfman... he taught me everything...I would lay in bed at night and listen on the other side of the world with the wireless until the power went out. Bye bye Wolfman...I love you always ;)
I wasn't around during these golden decades but man I wish I was .... Just hearing this clip took me back to a time I wasn't a part of yet somehow I find myself reminiscing about it. Something about the sound and voice through an old mic.... This man was obviously a legend. 🐺
The absolute best. I can only speak for myself but the Wolfman is one of the main reasons I became laser-focused on becoming a radio personality. Thank God I was able to be behind the microphone for a good ten years before the medium changed. There is nothing-NOTHING-like dimming the studio lights and becoming one with the listeners. Long live the Wolfman.
Under Appreciated American Hero. Didn't need no STUPID FORMULA,,,just good old entertainment. FORMULAS the beginning of the end to Rock Radio. CONSULTANTS AND FORMULAS ruined Rock Radio
I truly miss those days! If memory serves (and I may be wrong!) Wolfman's "bootleg" station was so powerful that it drowned out almost 1/4 of the radio stations in El Paso. When we moved to California, I found him on "The Mighty 690", and AM radio station in L.A. in the early '60's. Good times, good times!
I didn't get much of a chance to hear him, but I now see that Wolfman Jack was (to quote pro wrestling's Bret Hart), "the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be". RIP to the Wolfman. :)
Allora vivevo a Munich, sentivo esclusivamente AFN.....❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Miss ya Wolf Man ! You without a dought are my and many upon many peoples favorite disk jockey. ! From all Your fans to you we miss and love ya each and everyday ! Cant wait ( but not wishing my life too short ) to see ya up there doing what you do best. Spinning thoughs records.. Along with meeting others like Buddy Holly. Rickie Valens and the Bglig Bobber with his son ( my friend ) JP Richardson Jr. Along with many others.. Untill then. Were left with these records tapes and CDs.. Peace. brad
I didn't grow up listening to him but I wish I did. I learned about him through the Hilarious House of Frightenstein's character the wolfman. It was a tribute to Wolfman Jack.
When DJs were a part of your family, and sometimes the best part. I was East Coast, listening to WABC and WMCA, with Joe O'Brien in the morning and Big Dan Ingram and Cousin Brucie in the afternoon/evening. When I bought the 45 of "Dawn" by the Four Seasons, I was shocked that it didn't have a rooster crowing at the beginning! Every song was an adventure. If you weren't there... but, really, nothing today resembles it. For you NYC guys, could you ever forget Dennison's Men's Clothiers or Robert Hall? Or the Long Island Distressway? Cool. Ciao, Kemosabe!
Perhaps. To some. If he was part of your youth, he was meaningful. He was also ubiquitous. The man was constantly at Palisades Park doing remotes. Credit to the man. His audience was teens and pre-teens, and he was just as goofy as they were (and are). Yes, he was always G-rated. Maybe that's okay.
