Woman bought a garage on a 4x10 plot... Neighbors were smirking until they saw a chic 3-storey House 

This is a truly amazing project. The owner should be recognized as "architect of the year" for having the vision to imagine this layout, and then having the determination to see it built in exactly the way the imagined it! Jut think of this: most people saw a decaying garage and wondered why it was not demolished. Our heroine, on the other hand, saw a possibility and worked to achieve it!

This is nothing short of perfection! The light and airy feeling is such a surprise and I would spend way too much time in that glass-ceilinged bath tub! ❤️❤️❤️

What an awesome project. The owner did such a great job designing a beautiful home in such a small space. The whole project is just absolutely gorgeous and it’s so private and light filled. That bathroom is absolutely stunning and I think I’d be in that room all the time. So relaxing and peaceful being able to see the sky while bathing. The whole home turned out STUNNING. I purchased my first property when I was 22 and in college. I renovated it myself while working on my Master’s and sold it for an excellent profit. I continued to do it throughout my life. Eleven properties later, I am in my permanent home. I had vision but not the talent that she has! I wish I could do what she does, I would keep going. Brava!

Not 4 feet by 10, it measured 4 meters by 10 metres and the ground floor was partly underground as said in the commentary

Lovely project, but I doubt very much that the neighbours were smirking when she bought a garage. People fight tooth and nail to get hold of plots like this in London and are very used to seeing tiny garages or outhouses being transformed into lovely living spaces. I would imagine they had high expectations for this project, and just hoped that it didn’t impose on their privacy or views too much.

I would have liked to see what provisions have been made for storage. In many small site homes this aspect of life is often overlooked. Where are the rubbish bins, clothes drying areas, bike storage, luggage storages, utility areas? It is easy to be enchanted by the appearance of places but it is how they function that is a long term necessity.

That is Mill Lane West Hampstead. Now there is a whole row where garages used to be.

I would imagine that was months and months of arguing with the council before a brick was laid. She done well to get change of use.

Impressive, but I wonder how much money and time it would take for planning permission and plumbing to be arranged. Not to mention power and Internet.

I am surprised she was granted planning permission from the Government (required for the 'change of use') of a structure/dwelling and the addition of extra floors/height.

Amazing that the planning permission was granted. Looks a bigger footprint than the original garage. What about neighbours permission, light, privacy, boundary, etc. Also building having the same size footprint of the plot. Apart from that, great job.

This project is fabulous! Absolutely wonderful. But it's explained rather simplistically as though anyone can do it despite the fact that this person obviously had a critically important skillset, the finances, contractors, time to plan, create blueprints and execute it. 1) Since it had been a garage, weren't extensive filings and work permits needed to allow demo of the original structure, to build a residence with electrical/ plumbing, etc? and permissions to dig down in order to add height to the lower floor? 2) Before buying it, didn't the necessary air rights that would allow her to add several floors need to be confirmed/ approved? 3) How long did it take? 4) What was the final cost?, etc.

This is so creative! It's all impressive but the part that surprised me most was digging down to create more space. Beautiful and brilliant.

What is the actual cost? Those renovations still look like they’d be pretty pricey to the average person.

Need to mention the total cost of this project for comparison with similar houses in the area.

Every time I look at this, I see 2 stories only.... and in many cities, there is a minimum living space allowed, this does not seem like it would be legal. Ok, I looked her up, the garage was 10 meters x 4 meters..... and she did dig down, which is hard to see in this video, but easier to see on a few other sites. Brilliant idea! She got it done in just a few months!

I think she did an excellent job of making an old garage into a two-story house. The elements that she used as in the wood and steel flow throughout house and brings it all together. I think there's room to do this throughout the world, which would give families a place to live, instead of being homeless, or next to homelessness.

I've always said a person is only limited by their imagination!! Those fake looking doors on the ground floor really ARE doors! So cool!

This is an amazing use of land. The video, though, is a hodgepodge of photographs of the actual project, intercut with shots of other homes and neighborhoods. For example, who knew that the famous Prairie Ave houses in San Francisco were in this London neighborhood?! You extend the length of the video, while lessoning its value.

It would cost a Fortune to spend to build that kind of modern structure. Ask her how much she spent on that renovation?

This is a brilliant use of space. I and others would be very interested to know how much the garage was and then how much was spent on the new build. Because this home looks expensive. And cost is a factor in why so many folks do not undertake such "redemption" projects. London is an expensive city. And this is a custom design, which, if you had to pay this designer just for the architectural design, had to be expensive. Then there is material and labor. I suspect that this is only less expensive because this is the architect's home? (It is unclear if she designed solely for her use or for sale to someone else.) I am not a fan of modern/contemporary design but I could walk into this home and live there very comfortably.
