Woman convicted of killing man during marijuana-induced psychosis speaks out 

I’ve been to jail, I was addicted to drugs and used to steal to support my habit. Every time I was guilty, I plead guilty and took my time. Even if she was having psychosis, which she may have been, she still needs to do some time , a year or two at least….. just to teach her a lesson maybe, like don’t do drugs. The fact that she only did 6 days is kinda not right, even if she wasn’t in her right mind she took a life.

The difference is the expectation. Everybody knows that driving after drinking puts others at risk. Who would think that a rare reaction to marijuana could result in putting others at risk? Nobody. Having a psychotic reaction to a small amount of marijuana (not knowing it can have that effect on you because it's not very common) is very different than choosing to drive while intoxicated. A lot of people don't know that if you have a dormant mental illness marijuana will trigger it 1000x I only say this because I am one of these people and had a VERY VERY bad trip on marijuana were I became suicidal and threatened to kill my loved ones.

Mental illness is complex bro. The brain can go through serious changes in anyone for reasons not understood. Pot is not a miracle herb for wellness. It’s fine for 99% of us for recreation and stress relief. But give the 1% an f-ing break. It’s not their fault.

Weed can make someone psychotic. It is rare but true. Since she had no planning or intent to kill anybody (or stab herself), therefore its manslaughter rather than murder. Getting a rather mild sentence is frustrating, but that is not at all unique to her case. Many people are getting slap on wrist sentenses nowadays.

Other people will get extremely paranoid on marijuana and think people are talk ing about them or watching them. I have a friend who smokes marijuana a few times a year, 15 minutes after he smokes marijuana he goes and closes all his blinds, his curtains, locks his doors, turns down the TV really low and walks from window to window peeking outside through the blinds because he thinks somebody is out there. I noticed that too. while she is telling the story, she was trying to hide a big ass smile. She probably got into a fight with him snapped and killed him. A lot of mentally ill people smoke weed they don’t kill people. she is able to do that stoned ….

Congrats, you never experienced psychosis on marijuana. As someone who has, and had tried to kill myself, and threatened to kill my loved ones because I thought reality was fake, I understand how this could happen. More people should be aware that some individuals experience horrific psychosis on marijuana, especially as it becomes more popular. Edit: Before anyone assumes, no it was not laced.
