Glad you said this because I felt the same. What a question to ask her too after she’s recounting in detail, good that she answered that way and didn’t give the scripted response he was baiting for. News reporters are taught to maintain their presence in the conversation. So, to seem engaged in the interview, the reporter came across as insensitive.

There was crime in my home town. For years the authorities let it go. I got information on 2 terrorist events "arranged and guaranteed, to happen while in the army in Germany in 1980. The events happened. I survived one. 104 people were killed and 270 were injured. The people making the threats were in the army. I contacted the authorities. Nothing was done. I had known in detail about the attacks of 9-11 since 1997. Sure, I told well over 100 people. I told people in law enforcement. They did nothing I know of. This is Amerikkka, the land of selective political law enforcement, or no enforcement at all. I could go on, but just to let you know there is nothing new about this problem of government inaction and placing profits and accustomed forms over human life. It is a matter of new people having to learn these lessons all over again. Sure, they will understand the extreme importance of dealing with these problems, but only after they experience a massacre themselves.

As a former Marine and Law Enforcement Officer I can tell you, without proper training you cannot fire a weapon with any accuracy or responsibility. Even though they said both sons were ok early on I find myself sobbing to this. What a horrible feeling for a parent to not be able to reach their child in a situation like this.
Don Lemon is one of the rudest interviewers. He tells her to go ahead and tell her story but then interrupts her story to talk about something that has nothing to do with her story. That's tasteless and arrogant. I think he likes to hear himself talk.
The photo is important. You may hate it. It may haunt you for the rest of your life. But the photo is the reality of the situation. If you are on the extreme right, which wouldn't be a stretch for Florida, I can see how you might be angered you were caught in such a moment.

I saw that photo on Valentine's day and shared it. It deserves an award. While I am sorry that another community has to go through this, and sorry that she hates it, people need to see it. If a person sees that photo and does not feel that pain they are what's wrong with our country. That kind of raw emotion is what people need to see.

As parents we are desensitized when hearing our children's school is in lockdown. I can say when she said she didn't think anything of getting a call about a lockdown, that hit me. It hit me hard.

Daniel Borgmen give perfectly honest, I believe resource officers should be on school grounds at all times, and/or have armed security. And yes you're right it isnt expensive to protect a school, and as much I don't like taxes, I wouldn't mind paying more taxes to protect school grounds.

My High School is so stupid. Even with all of these school shooting happening we have yet to have a lock down. They once said we were having a lock down but when we went outside it was a fake car crash and they were telling us "this is what happens if you text and drive." They spoke to us for about an hour about texting and driving but we've never had a lock down.
Is it wise to call your child during a shooting, he, she might be hiding from the shooter and the sound of their phone ringing may draw attention to his/her hiding place. To not call is bad for the child too, what an impossible position to be in.
This is heart wrenching. I don’t even want to think about my son being in this situation in the future. It’s terrifying. I am so sad for these families.
My heart and prayers go out to her and everyone impacted by this great loss and tragedy in our country. To be able to come on the air and tell her story takes great strength and courage. I cried hearing her relive what she experienced. I continue to cry as similar circumstances are reoccurring. Our forefathers who founded this great nation would be ashamed. Excruciating experience for any mother, father and family members. The woman in this video will emerge from the experience a different person. I know this because of my own horrific moment of pure helplessness to get to my child but be held back. He didn't make it. It is really hard to describe how hard the experience was, but that was 20 years ago and I still cry when I talk or write about him, as I am now. My heart goes out to everyone in this situation.

I see the way I was raised and then I see the way kids are raised in America. There is a big difference and I think that plays a big role on why kids are the way they are here. I wasn't poor but I didn't have what most of the kids in America have even as little kids. I remember being 7 and roaming around town looking for someone to play with and being at home before dark, sometimes a little after dark depending on how fun playtime was. I remember my mother asking me to take a shower and to get ready for bed not making a big deal because I wasn't at home before dark, somehow she knew I would always get home. I came to the US when I was 13 so I got to see two different ways of life as a kid. There was a big difference in the way of life here in the US. Kids are forced to stay home all day and are barely allowed to be kids. They don't get to enjoy their childhood. Life here is more of a routine than life. The money is more important than having a good relationship with your kids (If you take a close interest in your children's life this isn't for you). I'm glad I had a good childhood. I worry more about bettering my life thanking my parents for teaching me values and taking an interest in life.

Is a shooter more likely to shoot up a school where there is no chance of resistance or more likely to shoot up a school with considerable chance for resistance? Yes this kid should not have been able to get a gun. The fbi and system failed. However if one of the teachers or staff had their guns they could have fought back. And even if they didnt have them, just the posibility that the teachers and staff may have guns on them would discourage shootings. Because most of these shootings are premeditated and planned. Not crimes of passion.

When I saw the looks on those mother’s faces I could see the sadness, but when I saw the sign of the cross on the blonde mothers head it touched my heart. God has a plan for us. We may face hardships in life but God will make it better.

A word of advice, that should never have to be said...Do not call your children or family members who are in a shooting situation. If they are hiding the vibration or ringer could alert a shooter to their location. I know it's hard but please, let them call you.
