Poor woman, this is exactly why you should never judge anyone for their weight problem as there could be underlying medical problems and syndromes. These could be prada-willi symdrome , diabetes, cushing's disease tumours or eating disorders. Be kind she looks great now. Good luck and you go girl.

I had the skin removal surgery, no liposuction. It took me two years to lose the weight so that I wouldn’t need liposuction, which I was told has a really painful recovery. The flip side to doing it my way is the extra years of that apron belly. There really is no way to describe how painful and life limiting the infections and smell that hanging skin cause.
@ALT-vz3jn

I found the lipo to be the least painful part of the recovery process, but everyone is different in that sense. I wasn’t obese when I had it done though

I really doubted it was all the tumours fault for the weight after she said that. Like you're going to gain weight if you're eating fast food all the time and only people I eat a lot of fast food are kind of made that kind of joke if it was a joke.

It's nice to see so many positive comments. I have lost over 115 pounds and have more to go. For me, it's primarily behavioral and secondarily injuries I sustained from years of playing volleyball. Once I could no longer play my sport, I got depressed and began to give in to poor eating habits and substance abuse. The substance abuse was much easier to overcome than my food issues. It's not like you walk into a grocery store and pick stuff up from the coke buffet. My knees prior to gaining weight were a mess and put weight on top of it, it's a real effort and a half to function. I could have gotten a motorized scooter this summer, but I refused. I got a walker instead and it has helped so much. We all have vices and believe me, most fat people know we aren't healthy. I don't care what some in the body positivity community say, your health will eventually take it's toll from your weight. However, cruel judgment and name calling can derail someone's progress. The fat person you see at the mall might be on a weight loss journey and you have no idea what they have accomplished or are going through. Be kind, it's free and takes little effort. Your smile just might lift someone's day.

I'm very glad to hear of your life turnaround and hopefully on your journey to losing weight! My weight gain is due to Zoloft, being manic depressive with terrible panic and anxiety attacks. The medication has put on weight gradually over the years. For decades I was thin; many thought I had AIDS, which horrified and angered me! My weight gain has been gradual but noticeable to me. Clothes thirty years ago that were loose are either very tight or no longer fit, which I find depressing. Not having a car forces me to walk, which keeps me fit and relatively healthy. I don't own a scale, but look at my body: it tells me that I have gained or lost weight. It's about inches, not pounds.

Oh wow this was fascinating, thank you Ashley for sharing your journey. I can’t even imagine having this surgery awake. I had general anesthesia for my tummy tuck, and it was a breeze… basically I fell asleep, had the world’s best nap and woke up to everything done. Idk it must be kind of traumatic to have it done awake, she’s very courageous. I wasn’t obese when I had my TT done, so I didn’t have that difficult decision to make.

It's hard enough to lose weight when you've just had poor eating habits (myself included). But when a disorder like Cushings is the contributor, losing weight is like climbing up a waterfall. Good on her! That was a lot of work. I'm glad she got the surgery so she can feel better physically and mentally.

General anaesthesia would be bad for her but not because it increases the risk for clots by itself. Respiratory issues are a much bigger problem with someone this size. Also I am kinda tired of surgeons blaming general anaesthesia for all kinds of negative consequences. One time I had a patient tell me the blood clot she had might have come from her general anaesthesia … which turned out to have taken place 3 years before the clot.
