Woman Scammed Out Of $40K By Oil Rig Worker 

$40,000 would have allowed her to join a travel group to visit foreign countries, or travel within the US, or take cruises. She would have enjoyed herself and met people. Such a shame.

Unless you are a multi-billionaire, your personal finances will never be enough to save an oil rig disaster. Not ever.

I grew up in Texas and know people working on rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. They work 2-3 weeks on, then 2-3 weeks off. They get free flights to and from the rig, amazing food on the rig, free internet, free medical care, in addition to high salaries. The accommodations on the rig are like a cruise ship. They have a gym, screening room, food served round the clock. They video chat with friends and family daily when on the rig. They can always access their bank accounts and if they need anything, the oil company would help them out. There's nothing to buy on a rig anyway so they don't even need money while they are there. If they are injured, minor injuries are handled by a doctor on the rig. For major injuries they are airlifted back to a hospital on the mainland. A single call to the oil company would confirm there is no such person on the rig and that none of their employees would ever need someone online to send them money

I find it increasingly hard to feel sorry for these victims. Did she not once question the disparity in looks/age between them? Why would he be interested? It’s not rocket science.

What you guys need to spell out in 6 foot letters, is that if us older ladies get hit on by a much younger, hot looking guy who professes his love to you online after a short time and then needs money, IT IS a scam!!!

This woman said she wanted attention but in reality it was attention from an attractive , rich man , younger than herself , that she wanted and was desperate for. So she ignored the red flags, didn’t listen to logic and continued to send money to some stranger in the hope he was genuine and was telling the truth. She could have easily googled ‘working on an oil rig ‘ to learn facts about what it entails but she chose not to . She continued and enjoyed the fantasy and paid a lot of money for it .

I think the most shocking thing is how these people always talk about how lonely they are. With the tens of thousands of dollars they send these scammers, they could have gone on a cruise or taken an amazing vacation - single - and met lots of people, made new friends and maybe even found romance! Such a shame

My ex was scammed by a overseas military man begging for gift cards.. i tried telling her it wasnt real.. she kicked me out of the house and sold our house( in her name) because "james" needed to pay to get out of the military to come see her.. she sent thousands in gift cards.. left me broke and homeless and didnt care.. shes currently living with family waiting for him to come to her.. KARMA

Any time they ask for money, you terminate communication. It doesn’t matter if you saw their face, talked to them on the phone, or even had them visit/meet you in person (not that it would happen). Don’t…give…them…money (or gift cards, or anything else).

I used to sell insurance and there was a guy on our team that crushed every sales record in company. The guy was a beast, he made about $40k per month. After spending time with him, I didn’t see anything special about him at all. I asked him one day “what is your secret??” He said simply “I never underestimate the power of gullible people.”

Can't count how many times I've heard this sob story. The fastest was less than 6 hrs before I heard "I love you baby" 🙄 then came the story about his son in California (I'm not even in the US 🙄) who had some health complication and needed ME to send him money, because I was the only person on the planet who could accomplish this mission! When I said no, down came every swear and insult possible. Gosh, I love the "block" feature! 🤣

Standard procedure for oil rig companies: something goes wrong with the machine, get the crew’s girlfriends to pony up. I should add, though, that I know a woman who was tricked in the exact same way.

When people presenting as rich ask for money, you know it's a scam. Don't know why this is not an automatic red flag for most people.

I'm in Las Vegas also. For 40K, she could do EVERYTHING in this great city! Unbelievable restaurants, world class entertainment and so on. She should have called me, with that kinda cash, I would go everywhere with her! Last weekend, I saw the Rolling Stones at the stadium. SO GOOD! Tonight, I'm going to see a Cirque de Soleil show AND go to a good comedy club. By myself! I meet amazing people when I'm out. She should contact me, I'll show her how to have fun in Las Vegas and meet REAL people.

I’d say one thing those that are being scammed, all have in common, self delusion, because they want him/her to be real, they chase away any doubts, therefore support the delusion, and I’m sure the scammers realise the type of people that are prey to them.
