​@@giftedgreen2152 I read it as the OP assumes wearing safety belts is obvious but slowing down isn't. To be fair it's a lot easier to see people speeding than to see people driving without a seat belt so for someone who's been doing it their whole life it's hard to fathom why anyone wouldn't.

No. She was just driving fast. That spot is an up hill ramp that curves right that goes on to the bay bridge. In order to drive that section, you have to gas all the way to drive up that ramp.

@@kito1san I live here. I used to drift a corner when I was young in my car. More fun when wet. But I had years of off road practice when younger. And track racing experience drifting around corners. On ramps were the most fun

With a big enough sample, the patterns show up and can be used to make predictions of results based on probability. I'd place my bets using statistics and data analysis and take my chances knowing nothing can be guaranteed (you place your bet and you take your chances).

My family and I would have been severely injured or killed in a rollover accident decades ago if not for seat belts. My mom bumped her head on the car ceiling as it rolled. If she hadn’t been in a seatbelt, that would’ve been a severe head and neck injury. My sibling and I, both below age 10 then, would have been tossed around inside like little rag dolls if we hadn’t been buckled up. A common cause of injuries and death was people being tossed out of cars and then immediately hit by oncoming traffic or even their own car after an accident; wearing seatbelts reduced that considerably. I found a 2013 Nigerian study by OJ Ogundele et al of patients in an ER after a car accident, with this result in its abstract: “A total of 81 (57%) patients used seat-belts, while 59 (42.1%) did not. Nineteen (13.6%) patients died as a result of their injuries; 4 (21.1%) of these had used seat-belts, while 15 (79%) had not (P = 0.001). The mortality rate of 79% for patients who did not use seat-belt was statistically significant.”
