As a 35 year aircraft maintenance guy in Canada, with 10 years on the 737NG, we use those doors all the time in the hangar to get on the wing or to change a window shade. I have also used them to sweep off a small amount of snow off the wing on a flight I was on in the Canadian Arctic. Mentour Pilot is 100% correct how much of an issue opening an over-wing door would be if if you did not have you own maintenance or contract maintenance at the airport the plane landed, which would leave the plane grounded until I fixed the issue then spent more time with the paperwork, which will cost the airline a VERY LARGE expense. Another perfect example that people are getting stupider at an alarming rate!!

@@user-pq7kr9qx3h Hi, I don't think she is insane. That is something only a psychiatrist can determine. Up to a few days ago Ukraine would have had people like that to make a diagnosis if deemed necessary. However I can believe that she is a stupid brat feeling that she is entitled to do whatever she wants, as she has paid the ticket price and have had the vacation. I fully agree with Phil Kite above in the sentiment of people get stupider by the minute, and that this person is a bright shining example of this. In the light of this week's events it may or may not be interesting to know if she is a Russian-Ukranie with entitlement issues. There have been quite a few of those around as far as I understand. That said, I'm not going to go into any political discussion about this matter with anyone online. Yours, Ann

What would alarm me the most besides the possibility of falling and properly resealing the emergency hatch by engineers is the potential damage to the flaps of various descriptions. They are NOT meant to have people walking on them. The amount of cost to the airline and others crazy. I work on ground crew and would never even think of doing that. That being said I’ve seen those emergency hatches being repaired during the night shift by the engineers which was cool.

Possible anxiety, panic attack. A long time ago, I was working in a place with a lot of lithium battery fumes, and it started to cause me a few health issues. This one night, I'm in the city (Melbourne) and I'm on a packed tram, and my friends were there as well. All I remember is without a word, I just pushed my way through everyone and out the door. It was pretty much an uncontrolled burst of activity that shocked literally everyone. I absolutely am not excusing this woman's actions or her accountability on this, but I think it would be unfair to claim this as a planned action, when we also don't know of her mental health. The engines are off, the plane is on the ground, what's the temperature? You can't really rule out a panic attack. And also, she's not being a Karen about it. She's just jumped out the side of the plane.

I had at one point in life suffered from extreme panic disorder for at least 4 years. It was debilitating. However I can say that I absolutely never acted outside of my own control. the fear drove me to do things, but I did those things with rational purpose in response to the irrational fear that overwhelmed me. There were never any instances of uncontrolled actions. @Gepli PLR I doubt she was anxious or scared to fly, as their flight was over. They were disembarking at the END of the flight. All flying was done for her.
@Relkond
@Relkond 3 года назад
This. I fully expect it was an anxiety attack. I’m not an avid flyer. The last flight I was on kept me keyed up the whole time - roughly 2 hours of nonstop shaking thanks to turbulence, window aisle yes, but no window, so I had nothing stationary to focus on. I had no way to relax the eye’s tendency to want to look >at< something. The whole situation only got worse on landing, what with everyone crushing together to hurry-up-and-wait to get places, and bugger-all, we were parked on the ground, and things would NOT hold still - my eyes were now trying to predict how the turbulence would shake the ground... Once off the plane, I took a sharp left away from the deplaning crowd. I’d honestly been fighting to repress a hefty fight-or-flight response for the tail end of the flight, and neither fight nor flight are valid options while in the air. It took a good half hour for me to de-stress enough on the ground, before I started making my way out of the airport. I’m not going to make excuses for her, just ask that people understand that situations which some people consider normal, are stressful for others. Maintain enough stress for long enough, and at an instinctual level people will seek to escape the situation. If truly a panic attack, I expect she’d accept the blacklist (why risk repeating the experience that triggered it?). We just need to watch that other crowds don’t take this up as the next ‘dare’ or ‘challenge’, which is where videos like this one are important.

That was actually my first thought. "Feeling hot", "fresh air", the feeling of being in trapped in the aisle around other people, and so on. Obviously we can't know, but I think it's a good possibility it was something like that, and it feels more likely than a dare to me.

That was my first thought too - especially if the passenger in question suffered from a touch of claustrophobia? It's significantly worse onboard when everyone stands up and fills the aisles. Still an unusual action to take, but I know from experience when you have a non-neueotypical response to environmental triggers it really switches off your logical brain....

I sit and read while everyone else is rushing to get on first, meaning they have to stand in a sweaty queue for many minutes. When there are around 4-5 people left in the queue, I leasurely stroll over and wait between 5 and 30 seconds before being let through.

I was sitting on board a Wizzair A320 at Luton airport bound for Gdańsk in Poland about 15 years ago, all set to go, doors armed and crew briefing complete when a group of lads who had been drinking heavily for breakfast thought it would be a good idea to test an emergency exit! The slide deployed, we waited several hrs while the door was reset but they were unable to arm the slide. Eventually we were switched to another aircraft as the planned aircraft had to fly empty to Frankfurt so that Lufthansa Technic (Wizz Air used them for all maintenance) could repair it. I was amazed that Wizz Air captain allowed the idiots who delayed us to come aboard the replacement aircraft

Well, when I sat on the overwing exit in a NG, I was briefed on how to open it. My response was: "Oh that is fine, as long as I do not have to close it afterwards." Because I watched a video from "Martin Alexander Skaatun" here on RU-vid as he shows the opening AND the closing process... Suffice to say, the latter one is not fun, he also shows it on the 737 Classic, although for that, I also recommend tossing the wreckage out the opening.

CMDR Sweeper As of the classic: tossing the window out is the prescribed standard procedure. Sitting at this emergency exit you become a „able bodied person“ and should be mentally and physically prepared to handle the chore! Minors and feeble persons should be asked by the crew to sit someplace else. And yes toss the window, if you drop it on the adjacent row of seats, it could break over the seatback and block the exit for further use.
@CMDRSweeper

@@berndheiden7630 Well I haven't been in a classic for a really long time, so I cannot comment on what the safety onboard card says today. But 14 years ago it did say to leave the window / door in the seat and exit, and not toss it out the hole. On some aircraft it is mentioned as leaving it by the exit where it will block too, so yes... I would today toss it out, and back then if it was ever required.

Another passenger started yelling at him telling him to come back inside... And guess what, same explanation, the guy said he needed "fresh air"... The guy tried to put the emergency door back in place but it didn't work well, it was all crocked and messy since it was a fully detachable door. The end of the story was, we all disembarked and nothing happened to the guy, he just left the plane and terminal rolling his suitcase like nothing had happened. What is annoying is a senior citizen that is in a rush to be FIRST of the plane, but when the doors open decide to stand them self sideways right af the ended tot he only exit and chit chat with the flight attendant... with the bags extra carefully placed to block anyone how try to exit. Then when people tell him to move...he tells everyone that they have to wait for the baggage anyway... ... me with only carrying and a train catch. Actually in most cases it will only take 2 or 3 minutes, but it feals like a really long time. The thing is that about half of the people sit down and wait, and just half stand up and disembarge. This is pretty much unversial. If you are on the wing, you are in the middle of the plane. With typical seating of 200 (a bit less in 737), you just have to wait for 50 people to disembarke prior, not 200. Even with a fairly slow rate of one person every 5 second, that is really very slow. Need to also mention that on this type OW Exit you need to release the handle ASAP as it can drag you out of the A/C if you continue holding it.

I imagine she will be facing a VERY large bill from the airline for the expense incurred - including the cost of having a valuable asset out of service until a maintenance crew have both re-sealed the exit and made a full inspection of the wing and trailing edge devices for possible damage. I think probably into the five-figure range in Euros. That will prove to be an expensive breath of fresh air. And of course, that bill could be enforced with court action if she doesn't pay it. Crazy thing to lose your house for. . .

After getting that bill, I bet she wished she tried this at cruising altitude instead lmao

Everyone who witnessed that must've been absolutely baffled. How do you even respond to that as cabin crew?

Calmly explain she needs to come back inside which she complied with then scratch your head afterwards with the rest of the crew & groundstaff. Finally fill out a safety or mandatory occurence report within 72 hours

Sean McErlean The aircraft will be grounded until after the wing is inspected for damage by engineering. Shoes (particularly women’s shoes) do nasty things to wing and control surface skins. And then there are the slides if they deployed...
