City TV, if you are going to cite the AODA then do so accurately! The restaurant is allowed to ask for the doctor’s letter that the owner ought to be carrying with her at all times when with her service animal.
@ErinCourcelles

@UCVSQDFsmR4vePouTwIdUMRg Under the AODA, an animal is a service animal if the animal can be readily identified as one that is being used by a person for reasons relating to that person’s disability, including where the animal is confirmed as such by a letter from a qualified “regulated health professional.”
@cutiepoodle
@cutiepoodle 3 года назад
@@ErinCourcelles mostly correct. I wrote this is a processing of thoughts and it's not an attack on you, Erin, k. So, I don't have to make my dog "readily identified". I can legally take my service dog into places of public access without identifying her as a service dog, meaning without a vest. so then for example, if my service dog and I go to public transit, the bus driver is legally allowed to ask me to then SHOW something identifying her as my service dog, at which point I flip up her kerchief which reads, "Yes, I AM a service dog", and legally, that is sufficient as identifying her a service dog. the woman in this clip already had her dog identified by the vest/harness the dog was wearing and the restaurant is legally allowed to ask for her letter. She should have showed the letter. And the restaurant had no grounds to ask her to go outside. Because legally, she only needs to be identified if I am asked to show it, meaning they don't have to wear the vests, and meaning that the ID cards are scams but when we say the animal must be identified as a service animal it doesn't have to be shown unless asked for it, and then I can be asked to show the doctor's letter as well. I wish the woman had just shown her letter, that is where she faltered in that news clip reported.

Under the ADA, State and local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that serve the public generally must allow service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the facility where the public is allowed to go. For example, in a hospital it usually would be inappropriate to exclude a service animal from areas such as patient rooms, clinics, cafeterias, or examination rooms. However, it may be appropriate to exclude a service animal from operating rooms or burn units where the animal’s presence may compromise a sterile environment. Anywhere open it the public a service dog by law is permitted.

Accommodations are required for both individuals up to the point of undue hardship, so it should be a simple matter of seating them in different areas, and asking the person who arrived later to wait until a table was available in a different area would be completely acceptable if someone said they had allergies. Bringing your pets to a public area, evenmore a restaurant, shows a pure lack of mutual respect and civil conscience. I don't go to restaurants where animals are allowed. @johnscan6295
@johnscan6295 3 года назад
Animals are allowed in all restaurants. It's the law in most of the world. Service dogs are defined by laws in each jurisdiction, but all the jurisdictions allow them access to restaurants. In Ontario, a medical professional must write a letter that the person carries with them to certify that they require their dog. Once that letter is shown, access is legally permitted to anywhere the general public is allowed. Guess you're not eating in restaurants anymore... Bye Karen.
@DaniAlexandria
@DaniAlexandria 3 года назад
A service animal is medical equipment prescribe by a doctor. For example a guide helps blind people navigate the world. A medical alert dog can alert it’s handler to oncoming seizure etc. These dog are used to allow the disabled to live “normal” independent lives. The only lack of respect is coming from your ignorance. You don’t need to go into a restaurant where PETS are allowed but SERVICE DOGS are allowed in ALL restaurant. THAT IS THE LAW. If YOU have a problem with someone’s medical equipment being in a restaurant be it a wheelchair or service dog YOU have every right to leave because that is a YOU problem. “This is 2021, no one needs the presence of an animal” actually in 2021 we have more types of service animals that serve more purposes than ever before in history. So I would highly suggest getting used to it because service dogs are not going anywhere and are not going anywhere and are PROTECTED BY LAW! If you would like to learn more about the laws it is the AODA (accessibility for Ontarians with disabilities act)

@johnscan6295
@johnscan6295 3 года назад
@@tynome63 you have no idea what sad is then. Having a disability does not make a person sad necessarily, but having a dog can be extremely freeing for people who have been unable to go out for years. One example would be a seizure dog, a person who doesn't know when they're going to have a seizure often can't safely go out because they could fall and hit their head, or stumble into traffic, or something else. No technology can help with that, but a dog can smell subtle changes in their bio-chemistry and warn them often a few minutes in advance of a seizure so they can sit down someplace safe. The dog will then help keep them safe until the seizure has passed. Even being with another human 24/7 wouldn't grant the freedom a dog does in that case.
