Hot take to follow up on your point: Miscarriage is medically considered a, "Spontaneous abortion," and.. well.. we already know about the abortion laws that exist. If this upsets you, please reconsider your stance on abortions. A different RU-vidr, Illyssa "Illy" aka illymations, narrated a story on how she needed a necessary D&C (dilate and curate the uterus) due to a small tumor/growth that is not considered a pregnancy. Illy almost bled out to death due to their body *desperately* trying to flush out that growth. Some states consider THAT procedure an abortion due to typical procedure involving removal of tissue. As stressed in Illy's video, they could have DIED because of these laws. Please, please look into what your stance on abortion is by considering these different cases. The laws are getting so extreme that women and AFABs are literally RISKING THEIR LIVES because their choice for SAVING THEIR LIVES is illegal. It's genuinely not okay.

Instead the judge ordered a live birth. Apparently because of the arrangement of limbs or whatever, it was feared a caesarean wouldn’t be possible. The operation was described as cracking open the uterus. It was potentially going to leave her unable to have children. i still think sex ed should start around the time afab people start having their period, but not too in depth, just basic information about how periods work and how they relate to pregnancy (required for both amab and afab) and then in high school more in depth about intercourse, safe sex, pregnancy, and everything (school appropriate but still very important stuff) regarding it, still for both amab and afab. and theres no opt out, because its extremely important to know all that stuff especially at the age of 16 and older when people will start doing it. definitely lots of things on consent, and then updating it when laws are updates or new ones are passed the the information stays current and everyone can have the knowledge of “consequences” associated with those acts

@@CrabJelly5225 sadly that's not true anymore the average age of first "consensual" sexual contact now is only 14 and 8% of kids are having sex or at least sexual contact (oral or digital) before they hit 13. Getting your period at 8 or 9 used to be considered precocious puberty and you'd be given meds to stop it for a couple years or so but now it's considered a normal age to start. Just a friendly reminder that pro life means pro life in EVERY SITUATION. If you say you are pro life, that means if a 12 year old girl is r*ped by her own father and becomes pregnant, and has a medical condition that makes carrying a child to full term deadly, you believe that she should still do it anyway. If you don’t agree with that, congrats, you are PRO CHOICE! This is exactly why I’m pro choice, because the main reason for being pro choice is “You’re taking away a child’s life! They have so much potential!” but so many pro choice people don’t realize how many children’s lives they’re ALSO taking away by being pro choice. Children whose family and friends have developed relationships with them, have talked with them and played games with them… At least when you’re pro choice, no child is getting forcefully taken from their family and friends that have bonded with them for several years and love them. There’s also the whole families forcing their kids not to put grandbabies up for adoption and forcing them to take care of them even if they physically can’t, even though had they not gotten pregnant, they wouldn’t be allowed to adopt a child and raise that child even if they wanted to and had the resources to… thing. It’s all ridiculous imo. Especially when you look at our views on it now versus people like Hollywood movie directors’ views on it back then. Yikes.

I did some research into this case in order to educate myself on it and find out what eventually happened because i was mad on her behalf, and from what I can tell from a few different news sources from all angles, she ended up not being charged. however, she was not being charged for a miscarriage, this seems to be misinformation spreading, she was charged with mishandling after she miscarried (though nore crudely worded), it was found logged in the toilet pipes and other things in a bucket in her backyard; she left soon after for a hair appointment and a friend sent her to the hospital upon her arrival. she had also been to the hospital a few times where she was told she needed to be induced, but left without treatment. I can't imagine what she went through, maybe she just wasnt in her right mind from grief and/or other feelings, but none of us truly know. But if she tried to flush it? Thats seems so wrong in my opinion. I'm sure there are others who have actually been charged directly for miscarrying, which is extremely backward, but it seems like she was not.

So… 8 weeks- Parents are thrilled to discover they are pregnant! 18 weeks- Ultrasound shows fetal anomalies not compatible with life, but there is a heartbeat, so ending pregnancy is illegal. Parents try to hope for the best; maybe they can spend a few minutes, or even hours, with their baby after birth. 30 weeks- After three months of intense monitoring, the fetus no longer has a heartbeat; the hopes of the parents are crushed. The doctors’ access to the medications to induce labor is severely restricted, so they hope labor begins on its own. 32 weeks- After two more weeks of intense monitoring, labor has not begun on its own and signs of infection from the dead tissue are now setting in. An emergency c-section has to be performed to save the life of the parent. Sequel: Two years later- The parents are now thrilled to be expecting a healthy baby. However, another c-section will have to be performed, as the uterus now can’t endure labor due to the old c-section scar, increasing risks for parent and neonate. But we are “saving the lives of millions of babies”! 🙄

Listen, I already know people are going to be saying stuff like "it's a baby, it's still a living thing, it deserves rights, maybe they should have used protection!". Abortion (I'm not too knowledgeable on it) would and can help people who are completely unready for a child. If you are so focused on what's right for the child, consider abortion. What is they are dirt poor? Unable to afford a house even, or struggling to even care for themselves. That child would die either way, or be on the verge of death. Not only that, children, 12 year olds, they can get raped and be too late to get an abortion when it is discovered or something. Yeah, the " baby" may be innocent still or whatever, but the parent should have a choice to have the child. To carry that thing for nine months and then care for a baby and yourself, sometimes even without the physical help of another parent.

Even abortion isn't murder, though I'll make this post mostly about miscarriage, since that's the big thing the commenter your talking to is talking about, and the video. You see, if you paid attention in the video, the character was told the fetus would be dead in her uterus, in a few days maybe weeks, I don't remember which. It would not even make it birth. It would be a stillborn baby. Dead. Dead baby, without her doing anything. So she wanted the fetus to be removed, aborted, before it became a problem, by dying and then rotting. Rotting in her womb. Ever had a yeast infection? I got a feeling that a rotting corpse, in your womb? That's gonna make a killer infection. Potentially literally, though definitely literally for the potential human. A miscarriage, is where a fetus somehow, someway, dies, in the womb. Could be the mother took a nasty fall, and the baby bump took the brunt of it. Some unknown affliction the fetus was made with, that killed it within days or weeks of development. Not even before birth, before the first breath. Could even happen just before giving birth.

Reminder to the commenters to please use gender inclusive language. This does not only affect women, it affects anyone with a uterus.

So scary - this could have been me without access to safe, legal abortion as part of pre-natal care. I live in Australia, but I stay vigilant!!

Abortion is an option if it is necessary which is understandable, I don’t agree if it is an unreasonable decision but to charge a woman for a miscarriage really?? Like what if it died by itself or something happens which isn’t he fault and they accuse her!! This is so wrong

It makes more sense if you also realise that people with criminal histories have issues getting jobs, homes, etc, and often those charged with felonies (which they hand out like candy in some places) CAN'T VOTE.

Your opinion is only relevant in your own pregnancy. Abortion is a decision to be made by the pregnant person and their doctor, not state and federal laws.

How can you not see that if abortion is a crime, miscarriage is probable cause?

So... She knew the fetus wasn't going to be viable, and they knew that... And they still want to charge this person. Have I caught the drift?

When babies die of SIDS, are they going to charge the mother with murder too? Oh wait, they don't think they're important after they're born, I forgot.

Yeah 22 weeks you can still go to Illinois New York or California and get a termination. You can generally get one up to 24 to 25 weeks

In that situation- "abortion is only legal up until 21 weeks. It's a good job you came in today, you'll be at 22 tomorrow."
