Embark on a historical journey with this video that delves deep into the heart of Ancient Persia. Discover the life and reign of King Xerxes, the ruler of the Persian Empire, as we explore the ruins of Persepolis near Shiraz, Iran. This video offers a unique perspective on the egalitarian society that thrived under Xerxes’ rule, where women’s empowerment was evident and freedom of religion and speech were respected.
Learn about the pivotal battles that shaped history:
1. Battle of Thermopylae: Understand the significance of this battle in shaping Greek national identity and debunk the myths and misconceptions often portrayed in popular culture, such as in the movie “300”.
2. Battle of Persian Gates: Discover the courage and sacrifice of the Iranian soldiers, led by Ariobarzan and his sister Youtab, who made their last stand against Alexander’s forces.
This video challenges the conventional understanding of history and emphasizes the importance of skepticism when interpreting historical events. It serves as a reminder that what is often believed to be real history may not be accurate, and that history is often written by the victors.
Drawing on the wisdom of Socrates, this video invites you to question what you know and continue learning. As Socrates said, ‘The more I learn, the more I learn that I know nothing.’

That is interseting. Can you give us some sources, to read some examples of ancient persian societies being more free on speech or other things for their people?

One of the best English resources is a book by Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones called Persians. But also you could check out the first declaration of human rights by Cyrus the great. Or even the Wikipedia page of Cyrus the great and the achaemenide empire are good starting points.
