@@mizzoustud73172309 What is below was taken from my short and free essay on Deborah: THE REASON GOD SENT HER here: ...the Lord was moved to pity... And when the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge and saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the Lord was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who tormented and oppressed them. -excerpt Judges 2 The sending of a Judge meant God was showing mercy to His people. It wasn't a judgment against them. Since Deborah was a woman, this scripture is sometimes used in error to describe her, in our time: My people! Their oppressors treat them violently, And women rule over them. My people! Those who guide you lead you astray And confuse the direction of your paths. -excerpt Isaiah 3 They are taking the prophetess Deborah and comparing her to Jezebel who murdered prophets. Has it not been reported to my master what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets of the Lord, that I hid a hundred prophets of the Lord... -excerpt 1 Kings 18 When a Judge died, THEN people were led astray. But it came about, when the judge died, that they would turn back and act more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and bow down to them; they did not abandon their practices or their obstinate ways. -excerpt Judges 2 I could have posted more, but the essay can be posted, should you wish a study.

One of God’s judgments at that time was to appoint women over the men because the men had become "worthless." Going back to the fall and Adam and Eve, the man would look to exert unloving authority over the woman, but the woman would desire to rule the man. The Husband is the head of the wife as Christ is head of the church. It's not about value, it's about God's order. The wife can't be the husband and in the church the woman can not lead the man. A man's duty before God is to lead, protect, and teach. Whether over his own family or over a church.

The Bible is and was clear. However males translated the Bible and diminished the original writing and purposes of women in the Book. Fortunately the younger theologians are not afraid of the true context of the words. I used to believe the lesser role assigned by translators (and pastors that should have known better since they went through seminary) was the truth. God created THEM in His image. The description is not “helper” as in assistant. The word ezer means match or partner, kenegdo means power, strength, lift him up. A woman isn’t less in Gods eyes. She completes a man.

@@deborahgrantham7387 I’m sorry that you’ve bought into the woke agenda that has infiltrated many churches, but you are incorrect. Are women as valuable as men? Yes! Of course. To say otherwise is to put your wants above God’s word. In as much as the King James Bible, it was translated perfectly. The other modern translation “bibles” have been compromised. @@deborahgrantham7387here we go with more women committing sorcery, contempt, and blasphemy by preaching false gospel. My question is why are modern women so determined to throw away their salvation just to temporarily have their way? Here's part of this problem. I was at a recent Freedom Night hosted by Charlie Kirk, and his guest was George Barna, an expert on "worldview". He made a statement that almost floored me so I want to share it. "Only 1 out of 8 children of PASTORS has a biblical worldview". Chew on that one awhile. His most recent book is called "Raising Spiritual Champions". I also left a church last year where I was also on the worship team, as they "ordained a female pastor", as #2 pastor in the church, and did preach from the pulpit twice while I was there. I walked out both times. I never thought in my lifetime that I'd see that happen in a BIBLE CHURCH!

This is one of the reasons given for Paul's position on women not teach, nor to usurp authority over the man 1 Timothy 2:14 (KJV) And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. So it is obvious that this same reason would apply to all churches. There is a reason the serpent approached Eve to make his argument and not Adam. We were created with different strengths and weaknesses for different roles.

@@shyloh1980 So you think that he was wrong when he said: "Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression". That was his basis for the comment concerning why women were not to hold positions of authority over men in the church. So we are to believe that you have a better understanding of the things of God than Paul. You are neglecting to accept his explanation of why this is a universal rule for the whole church. That is :Timothy 2:14 (KJV) And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. He is saying that Satan went after Eve for a reason rather than trying to convince Adam. Eve was easily deceived. When Adam saw what his wife had done, he too took the fruit, but not because he had been deceived. I believe he did not want to be left alone in the garden and have Eve expelled, he loved his wife. This is the first example of a man following the leadership of a women in spiritual matters. It did not end well. We call it the fall of man for a reason. No the problem with allowing women to hold positions reserved for men is made clear when you look at the fall in the garden. Men and women are different with different strengths and weaknesses. Satan identified one of those weaknesses in Eve and exploited it to further his war against God. The earlier churches and believers had little difficulty in understanding the universal application of Paul's writings. This has only recently become a controversy among some churches. It is a very dangerous road to follow when we say God's word does not mean what it clearly says. May God open your eyes to the presence of wolves among the sheep.

I know where you got that idea. That comes from an interpolation into 1 Corinthians, which says women should cover their heads because the angels and nephilim are attracted to them. The head thing is merely an attempt to explain why that is. Then there's a second interpolation claiming that hair is the covering, giving a stoic explanation which contradicts the Bible (men who took a Nazarite vow were not allowed to cut their hair, and Paul took this oath according to Acts).

Spot on! This is exactly what the Bible teaches, and bless Pastor MacArthur for his courage to speak the truth in such a loving manner. There are all sorts of areas for service in the Kingdom of Heaven and in the church. It is capricious and frankly, ridiculous that in the 21st century where women are allowed to be employed in any number of fields, that some would insist on becoming pastors or elders. The Bible is very clear about this not being allowed, so there is no room for rebellion nor disobedience, the two very things that happened in the Garden of Eden. To take a simple example, why not serve the Lord working in IT? Nothing and no one prevents a woman from working in tech. Women can study like men and become certified in any number of highly valuable skills in this day and age. Why not build and maintain a website for the local church? Why not help set up live online events for the world to hear the pastor preach? Why not work with software and manage ITSM (IT Services Management), ensuring the right people have software licenses, setting up the user roles, permissions, access levels, maintaining their databases? Developing mobile apps to help promote the Gospel, encourage Bible studies, and use APIs to enhance any existing apps the church may need? Why not help missionaries reach forbidden places digitally? Help catalog years' worth of sermons and make them available to the world? Scan and help reformat legacy content so as to make it available for centuries to come? What about web design and graphic arts to produce astonishing presentations and to help design newsletters, church bulletins, pamphlets, and outreach materials for evangelism, and press releases? What about setting up notification apps for mass updates, including proper encryption, preparing in case there's serious persecution? It's never too late to brush up on basic cybersecurity and to help protect the church's digital assets. These are just a few examples of the many ways in which women can serve in the digital age helping to support the work of the male pastor(s) and church leadership without in any way overstepping God's law as set out in the Bible. It's time to remember our calling as Christian women to be set apart and not be influenced by the feminist agenda nor the culture. May the Lord help us walk in His ways.

What Was the Purpose of Water Baptism? For the Jews and their “gospel of the kingdom,” water baptism was a required expression of believing faith. We see in Luke 7:28-30 those that were baptized with the baptism of John, justified God, and those that chose not to be baptized, rejected the counsel of God. Luke 7:28-30 28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. 29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. 30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. John’s baptism was a symbolic baptism. God tells us in Hebrews 9:22 that there is no “remission of sins” without the shedding of blood. At this time, Christ’s blood had not yet been shed. Jesus spoke in Matthew 26:28 about His blood being the blood of the New Testament which is shed for “many” for the “remission of sins.” Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. We see in Acts 2:38 that on Pentecost, Peter preaches repentance and baptism for the “remission of sins.” Christ’s blood had been shed, so “remission of sins” was available for those who by faith obeyed and were baptized. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. We see in Mark 16:16 where Jesus speaks of believing faith accompanied by obedience. Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. In I Samuel 15:22 we are told “behold to obey is better than sacrifice.” Christ is the Lamb of God. He willingly sacrificed Himself upon the cross. Those under the “gospel of the kingdom” who believed in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, possessed obedient faith and were baptized.

This is the purpose of water baptism. When you repent of your sin and accept Lord Jesus as your Saviour, you die to self and God does not leave a dead body lying around, He buries it in water. That is why, Paul calls it a watery grave. You rise up in the newness of Christ plus when you receive Lord Jesus as your Saviour you receive a brand new recreated spirit. That is where the Holy Spirit lives. So your old man is dead and buried. You are a brand new creation

Correct. We need to go into the Greek language in order to find out how Paul used the terms: elder, pastor, bishop, shepherd, and overseer. One thing to point out is that while some denominations and churches distinguish between the terms elder, pastor, bishop, shepherd, and overseer, the Bible uses those terms interchangeably to refer to one office-the office of pastor. So, when we talk about an elder, pastor or shepherd, we are talking about the same office. - In the NT there are 18 Occurrences for the Greek word ποιμήν (poimén) = Pastor/Shepherd - In the NT there are 66 Occurrences for the Greek word πρεσβύτερος (presbuteros) = Elder - In the NT there are 4 Occurrences for the Greek word ἐπισκοπή (episkopé) = Overseership - In the NT there are 5 Occurrences for the Greek word ἐπίσκοπος (episkopos) = Overseer/Bishop One clear example of how these terms are used interchangeably is in Acts 20:17, where Paul “called the elders of the church to come to him” (Acts 20:17). At the end of Paul’s farewell discourse, he said, “Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood” (Acts 20:28). In this one passage, Paul used the terms elder and overseers interchangeably because they mean and refer to the same thing-a pastor. Numerous other examples prove this point (Titus 1:5,7; 1 Peter 5:1-2). This is essential groundwork for the discussion because as we turn to Paul’s first letter to Timothy and look at the qualifications for an overseer (1st Timothy 3:1-7), we know we’re looking at the office of pastor, bishop, and shepherd.

@@Samuelh777 I suggest my short and free essay on Deborah. Reply for it if desired. Men and women are perfectly equal spiritually. 1 Timothy 2 was written in Greek, which has different rules of grammar than English has. So we miss a key element in that passage: Paul switches from talking about "women" (plural) to talking about ONE woman (singular.) In English, this doesn't matter. We can do that and still be talking about women in general. But you can't do that in Greek. Which means: Paul was talking to Timothy about ONE woman in particular, that needed to sit down and be quiet. Why? Because she was a false teacher. Ephesus was completely dedicated to the worship of Artemis (aka Diana.) In fact, it was law that every religion was allowed in Ephesus, but only if they also incorporated the worship of Artemis. What were the core principles of Artemis worship? 1. She was the guardian of women in childbirth. But to gain her protection, a pregnant woman had to do specific rituals in her temple. 2. Artemis was an archer. A huntress. BUT. Mythology taught that she turned her male human opponents into bulls, and then shot them... and then pinned their testicles to her chest, as trophies. Google "image of Artemis" and you'll see ancient Greek statues that show her this way. 3. Women were seen as spiritually superior to men. Therefore, women were to be the spiritual leaders. Any male leader was to be manipulated and bossed by women. If he refused to submit, then stronger measures were advocated. Ardent devotees of Artemis would devote their lives to these principles. 4. Every religion that entered Ephesus would be infiltrated by these women, who tried to enforce the law. They would change the mythology taught by those religions, creating strange new cults. Knowing this, the last portion of 1 Timothy 2 becomes very clear. A female false convert was trying to do as she had been taught all her life. She was trying to mix Genesis 1 with Artemis principles. The creation story was flipped upside down, with Eve being created first. (First is best, according to pagan thinking. but not Biblically.) And Adam had to be the one deceived, if Eve was spiritually superior. And this woman was telling pregnant women they were in danger of evil things happening during childbirth if they didn't partake of pagan temple rituals! Now the passage makes sense, doesn't it? 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 is also easily understood, if you understand the cultural and historical context. 1. This book was written to answer a long-lost letter written from Corinth to Paul. That letter contained questions, which Paul was answering. 2. "as also saith the law" -- what law? The Old Testament never said women were to keep silence. Nor did the Law of Moses ever say a woman was to obey her husband. (Abigail disobeyed her evil husband and called him a fool behind his back -- and was rewarded for it!) Actually, the law 1 Cor 14:34 refers to is just about word-for-word out of the Talmud. In the first century, the ancient parts of the Talmud weren't yet written down. This was the ORAL LAW of the PHARISEES. It was the teachings of the founding rabbis of the pharisees, who had died 200 years prior to the time of Christ. (That why they called them "them of old time" -- and Christ referred to them using that phrase in the Sermon on the Mount.) Did Paul ever tell Gentile Christians to keep the oral law of the Pharisees? ABSOLUTELY NOT! That is exactly the OPPOSITE of Paul's consistent stance. 1 Cor 14:34-35 are questions quoted from that long-lost letter. And Paul gives his answer in verse 36. "What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?" Paul is strongly OPPOSING the idea expressed in the previous 2 verses! And his reasoning is thus: Did the word of God come out of you (men)? No, the Word became flesh and came out of a woman. Mary. Or did the word come unto you (men) only? Absolutely not. There are portions of Scripture inspired through women. And God used women as prophetesses in the Old Testament, as much as the men would allow! Deborah and Huldah would have been stoned in Jesus' day. And Miriam would have, too. Because the Pharisees said a woman's voice was a vile thing and should never be heard in public. Pharisees made their wives walk 10 paces behind them, to keep them from talking to them in public. Pharisees invented the Women's Court of Herod's Temple to keep the supposedly unclean, vile creatures away from the altar of sacrifice. But God never said to do so. Hannah prayed inside the Tabernacle. Miriam led the people in song, just as other women were appointed to sing in Temple worship: see 1 Chronicles 25:5-6, and Ezra 2:65. God used King Lemuel's mother to inspire Proverbs 31. Huldah led the High Priest and the King through prophecy, to recognize the Law. Deborah shepherded Israel as a judge and prophetess. Isaiah's wife was called a prophetess. Elizabeth...Mary... Anna... Phillip's 4 daughters... all the women believers on the day of Pentecost... The Word came through them also. Paul would be horrified to see how those 2 passages of Scripture have been so ABUSED to say things Paul never intended.

@@td5224 Anna didn't lead crowds in public worship like Miriam did. She didn't prophesy to the Temple leaders like Huldah, because they didn't come to her for advice, as the High Priest did to Huldah. Nor did Anna set up under a tree in her front yard to judge the nation of Israel, as Deborah did. Her prophesying was one-on-one, not as a leader. And you missed what I said of how we can know Paul was telling Timothy to silence one female false teacher. It's in Greek grammar. You see it in the English, but it's acceptable in English. Not in Greek. If I would speak of "women" and then wax eloquent concerning "woman" you would know I'm still talking about women in general. But that's not how it works in Greek. In Greek, switching from a plural "women" to the singular "the woman" means you've stopped talking about women in general. You've started talking about ONE woman in particular. You ask "where does the Bible say" it. It says it in the original Greek. Not in our translation. Because it cannot translate precisely into English.

The plain reading of that verse is that this is Paul's personal perspective. By the Holy Spirit, Paul does not say, "God does not permit" or even "you should not permit." This, by a plain reading, is not a universal doctrine, rather it comes across a bit like a bluff.

My stance..please read till the end: Generally, anyone can teach anyone Col 3:16..but when it comes to mentoring, let a woman mentor another woman. and let man mentor another man..Titus 2:1-6......as a couple such as Aquila and Priscilla, can mentor a single person(Apollos) or mentor other couples. Roman 16 says that the gentile churches are grateful to Priscilla and Aquila..When it comes to being a pastor/deacon/overseer of a church, it is the responsibility of a married man(according to 1 Timothy 3) and not a woman. I also think that even Paul can't be a pastor of a church because he is either unmarried or widower..but he was preaching outside the church where he stayed (Acts 28:30-31)...I believe a woman can also preach or teach outside the church just like Paul did..examples four unmarried daughters who were prophetess in book of acts, Anna in Luke, Deborah in judges 4...a note: though Deborah name is not mentioned in the NT, Barak name is mentioned in the Hebrews 11..Barak is identified only with Deborah in chapters 4 and 5 of Judges...If one has to explain about Barak in Hebrews 11, they can not ignore Deborah..moreover even Rahab's name is mentioned about in Hebrews and James....in 1 Peter 3, women are said to take the examples of the past "women"(plural). Sarah is one such woman...what about Deborah,Huldah, Anna?....moreover Roman 16 says that Phoebe is a servant of a church...another translation says Phoebe is a deaconess.......I have couple of questions. Does prohibitions in 1 Cor 11, 1 Cor 14, 1 Timothy 2 addresses only married couples or women and men in general???because as for as my perception, the context implies married couples only(with respect to Adam and Eve)my 2nd question is why pastor John takes Q/A session including women when Bible clearly says let them ask their husbands at home?

We get it already! Women are not and cannot be pastors! I am tired of this topic. I've been a Christian 35+ years and never once did it occur to me to want a woman pastor or to be upset that there weren't any women pastors. I just never really thought about it much. Scripture is crystal clear, and that was the end of it for me. Nor was it ever an issue in my church(es.) Again, it was just understood, because it was Scripture. End of story. Suddenly everyone's pretending to be confused on this. It's everywhere. I don't even know why. Unfortunately, a side effect I am seeing is it's starting to create (or maybe just reveal?) a disturbing level of resentment, even hatred of women, among supposed Christian men. I've never seen that before. It's very disturbing. I never realized so many Christian men think of us as too stupid and/or evil to study Scripture. We can't even read it aloud in church. And that the ONLY biblical role for women is to be wives and mothers. ANYTHING else is sin. That's the attitude and what I'm seeing. I guess those of us for whom God did not grant the blessing of marriage and/or children don't even exist. Again, this is new to me. I've never seen this before, in 35+ years of being a Christian and involved in church life.

God still used women in powerful ways and women were also influential. It was a woman who had the privilege of sharing the good news that Jesus had risen. Why did Jesus see it fit to commission her to tell the Apostles and not just appear to men first? Some men seem to think that they are exalted above women instead of recognizing that women do lead alongside them in the Lord's work. A Christian woman is an example to her non-Christian husband in spiritual matters. Surely the role of women is more complex than just a matter of gender.

If we deeply study and analyze the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians (Gal. 3:28-29), which narrates, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither Slave nor Free, there is neither Male nor Female for all in ONE with Christ Jesus." Q1?... In what ASPECT did the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians relate regarding "NO DISTINCTION"?... Answer... from the ASPECT of SALVATION only... Q2?... Do the "Duties and Responsibilities" given to Man and Woman by God, have NO longer DISTINCTION in Christ?... Answer...NOPE... there are still distinctions between a Man and a Woman... Christ said, "Whomsoever DOES the WILL of my Father, is my mother, brother, and sister ... and will enter the Kingdom of Heaven."... Q3?... What is one of the WILL of God (God's Prerogative)?... Answer... Women of Faith must/should learn to KEEP Silent/Quiet in total Humility and submission to the Church of God in Christ... just like Blessed Mary, who is Blessed among Women, found highly Favored by God and full of Grace from the Holy Spirit, even she is qualified to TEACH and PREACH, kept her silent/quiet in total humility and submission to the Church of God in Christ Jesus till her death...all "Women of Faith" should walk-on her set of example. Q4?... If Galatians 3:28-29 covers all ASPECT of Equality (no distinction)... therefore, does this mean the HEAD of the Woman is no longer the MAN based on 1 Cor. 11:3?... Answer... Nope... Man is still the HEAD of the Woman SPIRITUALLY both in the Church and in Marriage.. while the HEAD of every MAN is Christ Jesus... Q5?... Can "Women of Faith" do anything in the Church of God in Christ?... Answer... Yes, God created the Woman (Eve) as the BEST SUITABLE HELPER (not slave or servant) for man, she can help assist man with the distribution, collection, donation, and contribution to the Church, and she can also do the Church's Gospel Choir with musical instruments, etc... but leave the Church MANAGEMENT, TEACHING, PREACHING, REFUTING, DEBATING, CORRECTING, BAPTIZING, and making DISCIPLESHIP to the "MEN (Elder) of Faith" for the Church of God in Christ... Christ gave the KEYS to the Gates of Heaven to a Man named Apostle Peter and not to any qualified women... Q6?... What if there is NO "Man of Faith" fit to be a Pastor/Preacher?... Answer... Have faith in God... God can make a way, when there seems to be no way... Prophet John the Baptist said to the stubborn Jews that God could make Descendants of Abraham out of the ROCK... the Rock is Christ, and that is why, Christians are grafted by God to the Real VINE (Christ Jesus) as the adopted Sons of Abraham... Perhaps, if there will be no more "Men of Faith," God will use a BOY (male child) to Teach and Preach the Gospel... impossible to Man but very possible with God. In conclusion, the only TIME that there will be absolutely NO DISTINCTION in all ASPECT is after the JUDGMENT DAY of God... Those who will be SAVED will live the Life of IMMORTALITY, with no more distinction between Man and Woman, Ethnicity, Nationality, etc., they will not get married to have a family of their own, and no more procreation... We will be as ONE BODY in Christ Jesus living in the New Heaven and New Earth with New Jerusalem, forever... Praise be to God in Christ Jesus... Amen and Amen..

@@crystalvulpine2314 Take note: ...We will be "LIKE" Angels, but that does not mean that we become Angels or equal with Angels... The English word "LIKE" means SIMILARITIES only... Angels are Spiritual Beings with Special/Mighty Powers coming from God greater than Human beings... while Human beings have a Body and Soul/Spirit with no special/mighty power... when Judgment day comes, all human beings dead or alive will be given back or be transformed their mortal bodies into immortal (resurrected) bodies to face the judgment and condemnation of God... If we are saved during the judgment day, we will receive some SIMILARITIES or LIKENESS with the Angels such as, no longer facing death (death has been conquered), Time no longer affecting us to grow old, never getting sick, not getting hungry, nor thirsty, no more pain, and no more desire for a sexual relationship or married life and no more procreation... but we still have big differences from the Angels... Resurrected Humans have Immortal Bodies/Souls without powers... while Angels still remain as Spirit Beings with Power and Might coming from God... Glorified Human beings can not change their Immortal Bodies given to them by God... whatever body God gave us, would be permanent, we can not choose or replace them... While the Angels have the power to change their appearances since they are Spiritual Beings with Power and Might that come from God... if you are born a black race, your resurrected body will also be black, the same with the white, brown race, etc... The only difference is if you are born black with disabilities or defects, your resurrected body will be perfect (immortal) but you will still remain black... In Heaven, there will be all Nations with all Kinds of Races and Ethnicities (Black, White, Brown, Yellow, and Red) worshiping and praising God eternally... Satan and his Fallen Angels will be stripped off/removed by God with their Power and Might and be thrown into the Eternal Damnation of Hell (Eternal Punishment/ Torment) together with the Condemned Evil Human beings on Judgment Day... @@jvlp2046 This is ridiculous. The fact that there is no marriage and procreation renders gender differences pointless. Also possessing a body is a punishment, no God will not force you into a new one and strip all your powers. The Bible says we are all sons of God, call me a heretic but it does, and I will not pretend otherwise just to appease some religious fragilities. Those who can't accept that are too attached to the ways of this age. The fact is, you don't have to worry about being cast into Hell; we're already there. Recall the way nature works (pure evil), and who rules over this realm, and where the fallen angels were cast down to. If you don't want to be trapped here forever I suggest taking the gift and renouncing this world. Reincarnation *is* real and it is *not* a good thing, it's what happens to the unsaved who face judgement and have to be punished for their deeds. And beware of light tunnels supposedly leading you to heaven, they are *fake* and your supposed loved ones and "Jesus" and "God" inside are really demons disguised as them, as you acknowledged they can do.

This man does not understand Paul’s teachings, nor the format that Paul uses to teach Paul states the issue in the churches before he Gives his summary in each book Paul is restating an issue of Jewish believers in that church. They’re trying to keep women from talking so Paul states the Jewish law which says that women are silent in church at the synagogue. They sit separately from the men and if they have any issues they need to ask their husband at home that is current Jewish law. Paul is teaching against that restating the law and then summarizing it like he does, at the end of every chapter with “the words printed in the Bible for bid no one to speak you people need to wake up

@@peeba7921 I suggest my short and free essay on Deborah. Reply for it if desired. Men and women are perfectly equal spiritually. That is how a woman could judge men of their sins, including homicide. She was a pastor, according to the scriptures. This is how the Judges are described in Chronicles. To say a woman can be a Judge over Israel, but a woman can't be an elder in a small church, just doesn't make any sense scripturally.

@@peeba7921 Essay on Deborah, the Judge and prophetess. (Revised May 2023) Before Paul we have her story. We don't know what Paul would have said about her. We have to read about her first and then try to understand Paul (if possible). This is what the people at the beginning of Christianity had to do. They knew the story of Deborah already. Deborah is either a meaningless exception or an important precedent, in the debate of whether men and women are spiritually equal. Before beginning, it should be noted that there is no scripture stating clearly or even hinting at, that Deborah was God's second choice. There was no man that rejected the call to be Judge, requiring a woman to take that place. ************************************************************* INTRODUCTION: Before God was rejected by Israel for the rulership of men, that is, kings, there were different 'seasons' so to speak. One of those seasons was the time of the Judges. ...but they have rejected Me from being King over them. Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah; and they said to him, “Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint us a king to judge us like all the nations.” But the matter was displeasing in the sight of Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people regarding all that they say to you, because they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being King over them. Like all the deeds which they have done since the day that I brought them up from Egypt even to this day-in that they have abandoned Me and served other gods-so they are doing to you as well. -excerpt 1 Samuel 8 A Judge at this time, was VERY different from a judge in our time. The Judge was over the nation of Israel. But not as a man, as King, or as a woman, as Queen, because God was not rejected as King as yet. God ruled Israel through the Judges. Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars? -excerpt 1 Chronicles 17 verse 6 KJV Major modern English translations like the NASB use the phrasing ...whom I commanded to shepherd My people... [PASTOR - Origin: late Middle English: from Anglo-Norman French pastour, from Latin pastor ‘shepherd’.] In all places where I have walked with all Israel, have I spoken a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’ -excerpt 1 Chronicles 17 verse 6 NASB translation Also: Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning, and since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. -excerpt 1 Chronicles 17 verses 9 and 10 KJV -God speaking to Nathan the prophet Finally: All the Judges were men, except one. Deborah. She was married, but her husband was not a Judge. HER JUDGING AUTHORITY here: Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time. She used to sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the sons of Israel went up to her for judgment. -excerpt Judges 4 Deborah judged men and had the authority to execute, as some sins in the Old Covenant, such as murder, demanded the death penalty as the punishment. There was no appeal to Deborah's (a Judge's) verdict: ... you shall not turn aside from the word which they declare to you, to the right or the left. If a man rejected Deborah's decision, the penalty was execution: But the person who acts insolently by not listening to the priest who stands there to serve the Lord your God, nor to the judge, that person shall die;... She used the Law, therefore scripture, when judging and instructing: In accordance with the terms of the law about which they instruct you... She had the same authority as a Levitical priest: So you shall come to the Levitical priests or the judge... Also of note, she judged the hardest cases in the nation. “If a case is too difficult for you to decide, between one kind of homicide or another, between one kind of lawsuit or another, and between one kind of assault or another, that are cases of dispute in your courts, then you shall arise and go up to the place which the Lord your God chooses. So you shall come to the Levitical priests or the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall inquire of them and they will declare to you the verdict. Then you shall act in accordance with the terms of the verdict which they declare to you from that place which the Lord chooses; and you shall be careful to act in accordance with everything that they instruct you to do. In accordance with the terms of the law about which they instruct you, and in accordance with the verdict which they tell you, you shall act; you shall not turn aside from the word which they declare to you, to the right or the left. But the person who acts insolently by not listening to the priest who stands there to serve the Lord your God, nor to the judge, that person shall die; so you shall eliminate the evil from Israel. -excerpt Deuteronomy 17 ******************************** THE REASON GOD SENT HER here: ...the Lord was moved to pity... -excerpt Judges 2 THE AUTHORITY SHE HAD OVER THE COMMANDER OF THE ARMY here: Now she sent word and summoned Barak... She gave the order for the battle to begin that Israel won. Then Deborah said to Barak, “Arise! For this is the day on which the Lord has handed Sisera over to you... Before the battle began she prophesied that a woman would kill Sisera (the enemy commander). This happened, as Jael, a woman not part of the battle, killed Sisera. She said, “I will certainly go with you; however, the fame shall not be yours on the journey that you are about to take, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” And: But Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg and a hammer in her hand, and went secretly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went through into the ground; for he was sound asleep and exhausted. So he died. And behold, while Barak was pursuing Sisera, Jael came out to meet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man whom you are seeking.” So he entered with her, and behold, Sisera was lying dead with the tent peg in his temple. So what were the results of this battle? And the Lord routed Sisera and all his chariots and all his army with the edge of the sword before Barak; and Sisera got down from his chariot and fled on foot. But Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth-hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not even one was left. Also: So God subdued Jabin the king of Canaan on that day before the sons of Israel. And the hand of the sons of Israel pressed harder and harder upon Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had eliminated Jabin the king of Canaan. -excerpts Judges 4 In Judges 5, most of the chapter is Deborah and Barak singing praises to God. The song lyrics are there. Final sentence of Judges 5: And the land was at rest for forty years. Obviously a great outcome. EXPLANATION OF GOD USING DEBORAH here: Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth... Prophets and prophetesses are anointed with the Holy Spirit as we know. The explanation of God using Deborah to judge men and being over the army is here: An anointing of the Holy Spirit is the anointing of a powerful masculine being. That anointing eclipses gender. FINAL THOUGHTS here: A woman anointed with the Holy Spirit can serve in any capacity in our time. Whatever valid title/position there is. To oppose this, is to oppose the Holy Spirit. The same Holy Spirit that was upon Deborah the prophetess and Judge. Deborah, the woman that "saved them from the hand of their enemies" by God's will.
