I’ve never been able to just grab one pair of boots or shoes and go… until now. The Mountain Pass by Danner is not only a stylish and classic pair of leather boots, but I can also use them for anything anywhere and be comfortable all day long. I’m here to debunk any of the myths or bad reviews you’ve read of the Mountain Passes because they are my favorite boots to date.
After reading other experiences, I knew going into the Mountain Pass Boots that I would need to take time to break them in properly. All I did was wear them for an 18-hour road trip and then just started wearing them normally and that did the trick. I didn’t take them on a 10-mile hike right out of the box but after I wore them for a while, I did. If you take the time to break these in, your feet will stay happy.
I’m usually a size 8 and I decided to size down a half of size for the Mountain Pass. I’m glad I did because I feel like they’re a perfect fit. I can even fit a thinner merino wool sock into these boots, which is great for winter. These are hands down a four-season boot and the Gore-Tex lining will keep your feet dry no matter the weather. For being a full leather boot with a Gore-Tex liner, I feel as though these are pretty darn breathable. Of course, they’re not going to be as breathable as a mesh-built light hiker but that’s not what these are.
The Vibram® Kletterlift Thin Outsole is the perfect choice of outsole for the Mountain Pass. It provides great traction while staying lightweight and thin so as not to add bulk to the boots. The outsole doesn’t have overly aggressive tread but still provides stability and traction in many different environments.
I love that I can trudge through the most rugged terrain and not worry about my feet. These boots literally saved my feet from desert death plants on our travels to Arizona in the past couple of months. I went on multiple wanders through the desert and had no problems. The mid-height design helps protect the ankles and gives a little bit more support.
The versatility of these boots is unmatched to any other boot in my closet. I can hop on a moto, ride for a while, stop and hike 6 miles, hop back on the moto and head home and walk into my favorite lunch spot without looking like I just schlepped in off the moto. They’re stylish and lifestyle-y enough that if I travel, they can be my one quiver shoe. They provide ample support, protection from the elements, and a classic design that will outlast many other pieces in my closet.
If you’re looking for a leather boot to invest in, I would highly suggest the Mountain Pass by Danner. Take good care of them and they will take good care of you for many adventures down the road. The Mountain Pass Boots are made in the USA with high-quality materials and a well thought out design.

Pretty experienced boot wear'er and I just got a pair of these myself. They're surprising. Not very heavy for a low cut (5") boot, lots of flexibility in ankle roll if dexterity is high on your map. Even better if you go one speed loop lower, it opens the top up entirely and it's like wearing hefty sneakers. You give up a bit of the ankle support, but for daily wear, this is how I imagine wearing them. Some of the colour options do not come with the goretex lining, and are not guaranteed waterproof, but if you take your time treating them, you should be fine, save standing water and deep pools. It's only a 5" boot anyhow, so once you go above ankle expect some wet socks. The price is a shock for many, and it takes me time to bite on a good pair of boots. I used to stick to mil-spec boots as a go-to and I left that because they're typically too heavy for how much movement I prefer. Weight on your feet will translate to a loss of mobility. They have another line that is very similar (the Mountain Light series) and I found those to have too much additional material under the laces to be completely cozy. Granted, I didn't give them a break in period, I just wore them in store. Boots are tough to find for your specific taste in comfort and look, but if you take time and appreciate the break in period on good boots you'll never be sorry. I am retiring my last pair of Danners with these, and those have well over 10k miles on them between motorcycle rides, hikes and camping trips. The tread is toast, and they aren't a resolable variety otherwise I would for sheer sentimental value. Danner is a solid brand, and I thoroughly recommend their boots and shoes, moreso the US made variety because they LAST. Even their imported varieties are solid, if only shorter lived and unable to maintain once the tread dies. I do recommend thinking hard on what you want and not caving on a look. Try them on well before you commit and be certain. Good boots, good mattresses and good cars all warrant your money.

Hi, have you worn the boots in the rain? Did they keep your feet dry? How long did it take for the boots to dry? I’m curious as I know many hikers favour trail running shoes over boots for that reason (but they are not as cute)

Hi Claire, Thanks for watching! I wore these a bunch in the winter in snow/slop and can definitely say they kept my feet dry! I haven't worn them in a full-on downpour - but I'm certain they would keep your feet dry as they are gore-tex. These definitely take longer to dry than my lite hikers but I guess it depends on what you're using them for. If you have a dry and suitable place for them to dry out overnight - you should be fine the next day. Hope this helps!

how would you say they're supposed to fit?? pretty snug at the beginning? do they stretch?? should I have some room?
@AdventureRig
@AdventureRig 4 года назад
I would say that these will stretch just a little bit. I think when I first got them they were a little bit snug, especially with thicker socks on, but now there are perfect with thick socks. You don't want your toes crammed into the front but you also don't want a ton of room because they def don't shrink. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.

its interesting that you are talking about these boots like you wear them everywhere yet you are wearing blue sneakers on the hike you are on......

I wear these hands down more than any shoe or boot I have! I don't wear them trail running.... I don't wear them to the beach... I don't wear them to yoga class... But if I had to choose only one shoe to take on a cross country trip, these would be the ones. They are my faves, but yes you are right I do own other pairs of shoes.
