Full replay from Wimbledon at the London 2012 Olympic Games as Venus and Serena Williams take on Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova in the semi-finals of the women's doubles tennis tournament. (4 August 2012).
Tennis has a long Olympic history but withdrew from the programme after 1924. It did not return as a medal sport until 1988. Professionals are now welcome to compete, and the Olympic competition includes men's and women's singles and men's and women's doubles.

Amazingly, Serena had already just won the Singles Gold Medal vs Russian, Sharapova. She was still a little tired when she played and won this doubles match with Venus. Fantastic.

I truly enjoy watching the Williams combination playing doubles, more so than singles. Serena bounces around a lot at the service & not do as much as she could. Venus on the other hand, is an exceptionally gifted volleyer.

It might be intuitive bc she is the elder one but I find Venus taking the lead when playing doubles. Even though Serena is my all time favorite tennis player, I find Venus to be the more reliable and better doubles player.

I disagree with you... Venus has the more errors than Serena; and Venus' errors come at the most critical times, usually at the tie break and on the second set... 2nd; Serena has just finished playing singles that day versus Sharapova, and it's pretty obvious she is still tired, thus, her lackluster, tight plays and her errors on the first set...

This was such a tight game. The Russians really made USA work for it. A much closer game for Williams than the Final rounds in singles and doubles. 10:12 Match start 7-5. 1:10:06 2nd set 6-4.

Serena had just won the Singles Gold medal match vs Sharapova. She was still tired. Amazingly Serena won several majors singles titles and then in the same major tournament, went on to win the doubles championship. That's not easy. Of course the Russian doubles players here would have more energy/not be as tired as hardworking gold-medal-in-singles-winner, Serena.

+yvonne waters black people are a minority in England. I know because I'm black and i live here. And there's not enough of us that are tennis fans that have the money to travel down to London. That doesn't mean we don't love Serena and Venus. And anyway, the crowd looked very diverse to me, 15-20 years ago it would have been 99% white. Remember that.
