The USA women's volleyball team defeat the Dominican Republic to reach the semi-finals of the event at the London 2012 Olympic Games (7 August).
Volleyball was conceived as a less strenuous alternative to basketball. The sport became popular very quickly and made its Olympic debut in 1964.

Idk one time I was playing for my high school team and a line judge tried 2 tell our refs that there's a touch @ the net cuz she was losing 24-7 the parents was telling us wow b respectful and tell the truth and what not cuz our whole bench was yelling and almost on the court, the worst parent pushed my chair when I went 2 go and sit back down. Lucky me, I meet up with her again in jo and she did it again but this time she got a yellow card(she already had a warning).

@AlanMauri I think the reason behind it is that basketball is a much more aggressive sport that involves much more physical contact. I mean in tennis and volleyball, players can smash the ball very aggresively but the teams are seperated by a net which makes it easier to actually complete plays and tactics unlike in basketball.

I'm a Filipino, and I was shocked when I saw the surnames of Dom Team, because their surnames are commonly surnames that we're using in our country. Like Valdez, Rivera, and Dela Cruz.
