I have a 390xp which I love, but then when you see a 394/395 out the corner of your eye your brain stsrts to do the sums to see if you could afford one. Haha men like shiney things too.
Sometimes it's just down right fun to do 50-60cc cutting with a 90+cc saw💪🤪 Hopefully the stars align so you and Buckin will get to spend some time together during his journey!
Tinman , i have fallen with a 2100,394xp many 066s but the 661 magnum really makes me smile! The 100cc class is my comfort zone. I love what your doing and thank you!!
I live in the southern USA, but grew up in Western Canada , central Alberta, love your channel, one of our best friends ( couple) grew up in Manitoba along the Red river. You have the work ethic, family first balance , what is fun for me is your so genuine! I am believe everything you say! Love the Wood weasel pictures from the winter going to get water! Been there ! We lived in Grande Prairie in the early 1970’s winter was an 8 month affair!
Enjoyed running a 394XP ...still have a few 395's and a couple 2100 and 2101....great in big wood....timber we cut now days is second growth lucky to see a 36 inch tree...small wood....Shoe in SW Oregon. P.S. looks so weird those saws without full wrap handles...they look naked....
I know I was in my 60s before I got to run a 372 and what a great saw, I’m sure that saw is impressive it’s a big saw and just the right size for you. Thanks for sharing
Hi everybody! Tinman is spot on! Rakers heights are very important to match to the hardness of the wood. It the rakers are too high you are recutting the saw shaving. If it's too low it's more aggressive, it depends the on the power of the engine therefore, the operator has to balance the equation for optimum performance. Also pay attention to the chips forming and observe the freshly cut surface and inspect the scoring teeth marks on the face of the cut. Thanks Tinman! Wen you tune the saw in the wood could you put captions to the video so we can see and understand which way you are tuning the low and high jet. Thank you! Kind regards Endre
It is music to the ears listening to a saw that is well tuned, and that you put together yourself. I passed up a 394 for $350. I didnt know what it was worth and would have to drive to get it. I have plenty of saws.
Love the sound of those big saws, but we sure don't see them much in our area do we ! I'm in Gladstone Mb. Late saturday night after seeing an ad on Facebook marketplace i went to a local landscaper and took in a rescue saw. A Stihl 261 CM with VERY low compression. I have the same saw at home so it would be a good parts saw, but thats no fun. I haven't opened it up yet, but i suspect a broken decompression knob perhaps. I think the plan will be to get ahold of your friend at Wolf Creek and order up some parts to build a little hot rod saw. Oh and the landscaper showed me his new saw, an MS291 saying it was the biggest saw stihl has (55.5cc) That is no doubt truly the biggest saw he could find at a local dealer. I know my dealer looked at me funny when i asked if they had any 462's or 661's in stock ! Haha. Loving the videos, and just a quick note here to say hi, and there are other saw enthusiasts in our neck of the woods.
Very nice Tinman, it's a beast. That's the biggest saw I've ever seen you operate, it suits you. That monster would do well in our big Douglas fir out in BC, although a ported 266 doesn't seem to have a problem with big wood. Sure hope that you keep that saw stock, it's too nice to mess around with. Also it's a gauge to compare ported to stock in that CC range.. Keep em comin brother.. SLANT'E
People think I am nuts but I put a 32 inch bar on a 460. I use it for limbing. WIth the long bar a don't have to bend over asmuch. getting old for bending over all day. If I could find a 32 in bar for my 240, I'd use that
I have a 395xp with a hyway big bore an a pop up ported as well by JK performance saw shop an its a wild child i have an 066 flattop worn out stock an a J&S chainsaw ported 066mag with a pop up also an a OEM cyl. An i absolutely love love it for my everyday falln saw such a strong build
Ill give credit this sounds amazing, but my buddies Pioneer P62 is my favorite sounding chainsaw ive heard in person. Has that super low "ding-ding" sound at idle sounds like a cammed out muscle car
I just got my holtzforma bar and chains. If it’s good enough for the Tinman it’s good enough for me. Just use it for firewood so it won’t see daily abuse.
Tinman, I took a shot and bought my first Husq today. Picked up a 394 in case you couldn't guess. I'll be interested in finding out just what I got. As a novice saw user and green to Husqvarna's, I hope to really have good news as I get familiar with the saw. My first efforts to pull start it were not as simple as the seller made it look for him but I finally got it.
@@tinmanssaws I really do thank you for your encouraging reply. I already have a cousin to the 394 in a Stihl MS660 I bought about 4 years ago. That saw I never drop started, but used the method where you put your foot in the handle. When I bought this 394, the seller only had to pull about 3 times and could get it to fire. After about 12 pulls I still was having no luck.
@@tinmanssaws I plan to go see how it is starting today with the same drop technique and also one similar to how Buckin lays the bar on the log and pulls up toward the shoulder with the left hand. The only other issue the seller told me about was the kill switch not working. If you know the usual fix for this, I would appreciate it. Thanks
Ya, mine doesn't run like that Tinman lol! I had emailed you about it. I did tear it down and am going to rebuild it, should be able to make a good runner with a bit of time and a few bucks. They are both high hour likely logging saws by the looks of them. Make one good runner, keep the other for parts saw
@@tinmanssaws awesome running. I too have just rebuilt a 394 - pleasure to own. Do you know roughly where your carb settings are sitting? Best regards from NZ
Truly, one of the saws that I really would love to add to my collection. They are difficult to find, and when you do find one it's usually pretty well blown up. I'll keep looking! 👍
If I could only have 1 saw...It would be a 394/395! They will handle anything...The kill switch was the only issue with them. They fail from time to time...
This is to everyone who wants to buy an awesome saw like the 394/395.... Get plenty of experience running saws in the 60/70cc range before you try and use a pig like this. Doing tree work I was used to running a 372 all the time, but when I first got a hold of a 395 for a big stump cut, I almost wasn't ready for that sucker and I mean it! These big saws aren't your weekend firewood junkie saws that's for sure.
Just scored myself a 395, with the intention of mounting it in a chainsaw slabber. Had to have a go with it on a couple of logs of course, and I’ve got to say I throughly agree with your assessment! It’s an absolute unit of a thing, definitely get the impression it’ll turn around and f**k you up if you get sloppy with it. Love it though, it’ll be great for slabbing.
