In this Part 4 video wood carving a bluegill bream I'll be burning the scales
In Part 5 I'll be mounting the fins and eyes, sealing and prepping for paint.
This is only the second bluegill I've carved.
The first one I carved was the second ever fish I carved and it was my first RU-vid video I posted.
So we'll see how far I've come when we see the difference between that one and this one when I finish.
If you have any questions feel free to drop me an email or leave them in the comment section. I hope you will enjoy this project and if you do please subscribe and hit that thumbs up button.

That is one funky lateral line. Funky lateral line for a funky fish!

I love fishing for bluegill. I’ve always said if they grew to be 8-10 pounds there’d be far fewer bass fishermen, there wouldn’t be any bass tournaments, It’d be bluegill tournaments and bluegill boats instead of bass boats 🤣😂

Yeah i started doing that on the black crappie I did a few months ago. Saw a couple guys at the world show last year that did it and it was noticed by the judges so I’ll be doing it as another level of detail.

Thanks for the detailed explanations about scaling. This was a struggle area for me for quite awhile as you already know. Thanks for sharing your skills my friend!

Good teacher Danny. Question on Lateral Line. Do you use a smaller tip for the LL than for the rest of the larger scales on the sides.. before going to the smaller ones on the top and belly, etc??? What I'd like to see a bit of detail on is the nares/nostrils. I don't have any good reference on that part of the anatomy. Possibly different with different species? Sorry for all the questions.. lately. I'm in the process of an 8" BG and I'm at the burning stage. Just bought some wire to see if I can make some tips.

Thanks and no problem on the questions, I’m happy to help if I can. Depending on the fish the lateral line scales are a little smaller and slightly different shape than the scales above and below. And this is something I didn’t really pay that much attention to until the last couple of fish. But I’ll be paying more attention to that on my next project which will be a largemouth bass. I kind of go over scale sizes on an individual fish in the last crappie carving in the burning scales segment. And I loose track but I think I touch on the nares in a little detail on the rainbow and the brown trout video series. I’ll pay more attention to that in the next project because I’ve gotten the same questions about the nares. If you’ll send me an email to dannyharrisarts@gmail.com I’ll take some close up pictures of the ones I’ve done and send them to you, I think it might be helpful

Hey Danny, we haven't seen a video from you for a few weeks, so I am assuming that something more important than carving is taking place in your life. I hope everything is OK with you.

Yeah I took a couple weeks off to deer hunt and now I’m in the busiest part of the year at work so I’ve been putting in long hours. I hope to get started back on this project this weekend. I’m working on the eyes for this project now so hopefully they’ll be ready and I can get them mounted and get started on painting and get a new video out soon.
