Thanks Dan, I’m glad to be back at it. If it were not for the 4-5 weeks of freezing weather, snow and ice I would have never stopped. One of these days I’m going to have a dedicated shop instead of carving on my front deck 😜

Thank you. I’m getting close to retirement as well. I just started carving a little over 3 years ago so I’m still learning myself. But I think I’m starting to get the hang of it😃 I’ll probably do another deer this fall.

Enjoy your videos , might try a fish soon, going to need a wood burner

Thanks! Check out the Colwood burners at Bear Woods Supply company. bearwood.com Use my name Danny in the promo code and you can get 5% off. They are a Canadian company so if you’re here in the U.S. there’s no tax so that’s another little savings. That promo code works on any purchase anytime. It also helps me a little. I bought a Razortip when I first started. It’s ok but the temp doesn’t seem to stay consistent. I’m about to get a Colwood myself hopefully before I get ready to do the scales on this project.

To get the detail in the mouth you pretty well have to remove the top part of the head , its just to hard to work on a confined space

Have you watched Danny's process of his largemouth that was awarded best in show? If not I highly suggest it. Great display of patience, attention to detail, and skill.

Just getting into wood carving. Any suggestions on a budget friendly dremel for carving like this? Love the detailed videos
@Danny_Harris-Arts
@Danny_Harris-Arts 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching I’m glad you like them. I started off with a Dremel 4000 and bought the flex shaft for it. It’s fine for detail work but it’s not really strong enough for hogging off bulk wood. I used an angle grinder with a 60 grit flap sanding disk to get the blank as close as I could then used the dremel to start shaping details. I finally lucked up on a great deal on a Foredom kit and bought an extra hand piece. You may check FB market place to see if you can pick up a good used one. The foredoms have a lot more torque and can handle big heavy 1/4 inch shaft bits. A new Dremel 4000 with flex shaft and assorted burrs will run around $150 you can probably find a used Foredom for $150-$200 I got lucky and got mine for $150. Join several wood carving groups on FB and ask around if anyone has one they’re selling or know of someone who is.

Hi Danny. It looks like the World Compition is in Iowa this year in Aug 2024. Is this what you have heard? If this true it will be in my backyard. I have just completed a Yellow Perch. I will use some of what you are doing on my next fish and I plan to do a Trout as well.

Yes it’s in Coralville Iowa. They haven’t put out show specifics yet hopefully that’ll come out this month. I’ve already made reservations. Hope to see you there.

I’ve used photoshop for 36 years so it’s all I know besides pro create that I’ve used a few times. The basics of photoshop can be easy to get the hang of. I use a Wacom drawing tablet on all the drawing and painting I do. Check out my playlist of digital speed paintings if youd like to see what’s possible.
