Couple things the architect said in the video "its about choices" , "its about what you leave out" People are choosing tiny homes mainly to leave out a lot of clutter. I "suffered" a flood not long ago. In fact it was a relief. All the "junk" I had in my life got flushed away with the flood. Living temporary in a small space with what I salvaged made we want to get rid of even that. It was clear I didn't need it. This is the focal point of tiny houses. Its natural to fill space. The larger space needs more stuff. And there is a cozy embrace and a joyful connection to the space of a home that fits you. While this is true for large homes as well, it seems more conscious of those who choose tiny homes as it is a clear and deliberate choice, and not just a cookie cutter acceptance of what has become "normal" for today's homes. A thing I like about this particular home is the significance of the wall design. Not sure if it is clear to everyone how important the design of these walls are. They are not dead weight adding to the load on the trailer. the entire channel of the house is a tubular rigid support.

I love this house. The architectural design seems to make a difference. I like how structurally sound it is, super insulated, not have the challenges wood can bring, and how lightweight are such benefits. Even if it is a mind trick, the feeling of spaciousness is necessary for a tiny house. I am a fan of the modern, but I do prefer softer touches, something I could easily achieve with accessorizing the space. As a female, I love the larger bathroom. Thank you.

I hope the designer doesn't mind if I call it the "IKEA" house! LOL!! It definitely reminds me of a modern Scandahoovian esthetic. And I take it the panels are structural foam sandwiched between two fiberglass panels. First time I've seen this used. Lots of panels with foam that use wood, either plywood or chipboard. This is different. There really needs to be a sample of the foam board onsite, maybe 1ft.×1ft. so folks can get an idea of the material used. Great video, much appreciated.

I like your live and let live attitude. Very refreshing. Lots of people are downsizing. It doesn't mean you have to live in a 200 square foot house. We build tiny houses on wheels and on land. You can get your full sized fridge and bigger kitchen in 800 square feet very easily.

For $55,000 I'd like to see more in the way of improvements. There's absolutely No storage whatsoever! Maybe they could make storage into the floor, with a door that lifts up. I would add a closet to the house itself, like an extra little space for coats boots etc. Also a Railing on the lofts, especially the smaller one, can roll right off. Didn't see any air conditioning or heating system either.

Insulated structural panels don't loose any insulating property as all other insulation types do. It stays constant and it's strong and light. only thing is how would one add shelves if needed. food supply store areas, coat hanging places etc? Like the concept though. Really nice airy feel and the natural air flow is great too.

What I would look for in a small movable hose or a cottage is to have all beds at floor space, or on wall as murphy beds. Then I'd build lots of locking (so nothing falls out while traveling) storage spaces of varying size, some with "PullOutFloors" or even shallow drawers, with a library ladder for access, as these stroage spaces would be around all four walls at the top. Down the center on the ceiling, either one or two skylights, one of which should open to allow access to the roof for breakfast coffee or evening wine, provided the roof is sturdy and built to be walked/sat upon. milka The-Best-IS=BE/Coming AbundanceForAll

@insimplebeing 7 лет назад
I bought a book, which I think was called "Building with SIPs" which gave me an overview. The company that made the SIPs took my architectural drawing and engineered how many SIPs it would take, and how to configure them. There are a number of ways SIPs are constructed. My house was built with SIPs constructed from rigid foam sandwiched between OSB panels. This tiny home used rigid foam between fiberglass panels. Start your research. :) Google's great for that.

@@elizabethangeliah4574 what i would do is to buy a semi reefer trailer that has a bad freezing unit, u can probably find one for a couple $k. U can get a 24, 48 or 53 ft long. They are extremely well insulated as that is what they are made for. Find a trucker to move it to where u will build the inside of it and then to move it to where u plan to park it. Unless u plan to tow ur tiny home this is probably ur best bet. When i get ready to say goodbye to sin city this is what i plan on doing. Good luck.

Oh my goodness, thanks for going back. Couldn't see anything. I really love the clean lines. The kitchen is completely functional and small. Absolutely adorable! Although I would choose a different way for the couch, it has a couch. Why other tiny home builders think people do not read books or watch tv while sitting leaves me at a loss. Most of the early tiny homes were just small rolling kitchens with loft beds. This is a great little home.

@tootz1950
@tootz1950 7 лет назад
Even a lot of mobile home parks won't allow them. That pretty much leaves an RV park or buy your own land, put in electric, dig a well or connect to city water, dig a septic or connect with city sewer system. Just for Utilities and not the land you're talking about $35,000-$50,000. That's also not counting the fights with state, county and city building restrictions and the cost of the permits if allowed. There are places way out of cities where you could put it...just hope you don't have a job where you need to travel a hundred miles or more to get there. Impractical for 99.9% of people.

I love to cook and can and dehydrate my harvests. I couldn't do that or even store the equipment in a tiny house. I would need an outdoor kitchen for these chores. If you live in a cold climate I don't think this would be comfy long term.
@garybryant7274
@garybryant7274 7 лет назад
D Mink I agree. I think a smallish cabin or cottage would be better. Plus there is no provision for laundry. Going to a laundromat is expensive. And lastly there is no room for a freezer or other longer term food storage of the type you would need if you had a garden.
@bigflatsominxy9038
@bigflatsominxy9038 7 лет назад
+Gary Bryant for sure. We raised 4 kids in a 1052sq ft house with one bath. With a basement the same size underneath there was plenty of room for freezers and storage. I think the tiny house movement is a bit of a scam unless it's a recreational cabin or camper. Then you save big money on taxes over a permanent house. Especially here in the north woods of Wisconsin.

Tiny home prices are INSANE! This particular model should be cheaper because no matter the cost of the materials (even if it is double or triple, etc) the labor hours ARE reduced by more than 50% due to the fact that the walls are the actual frame and insulation! But then they are hoping to sell it high based on the lightweight technology, insulation and 'cuteness' of the design. There are so many Tiny Home builders out there...... Below is the cost of these panels. They are even using the standard size panel for the house dimensions! (8 ft x 24 ft) www.acmepanel.com/sip-prices.asp Below is the Energy Star reccommended R Values per region: www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=home_sealing.hm_improvement_insulation_table This can give you an idea of which panels you need depending where you live and a good idea of core shell/wall/insulation material costs.

Hello from the UK. I absolutely adore the design and aesthetic of this tiny house. Its minimalist, elegant appearance internally and externally are very desirable. Had I not known from this video that an architect designed it, I would have suspected it. However, there are a few aspects that worry me from a practical living perspective. Despite the closet (its footprint looks to be about 11 square feet), I have the impression there could be insufficient storage space. Secondly, in my opinion there is insufficient table area overall. The 'bar table' above the two stools appears usable by two people at breakfast, but would not be particularly comfortable or satisfying for two (or more) people to use at dinner, nor for two people to use simultaneously for work purposes (not to mention that the surface near the kitchen sink -- even with the butcher block sink cover -- would not be an ideal surface to place laptops, papers and so on. Furthermore, where in the living room would it be possible and practical to locate a printer? I also cannot see how it would be feasible to include a combined washer/drier unit in this design. I would be interested to know how practical a couple of people actually living in this tiny house would find it.
@fitzcarraldo8468
@fitzcarraldo8468 7 лет назад
Some other concerns I have with this particular design: How and where would a heater (propane- or electric-powered, or wood-burning) be installed in order to keep the interior warm in a cold climate? Also, how and where would an air-conditioning unit be installed in order to keep the interior cool in a hot climate? Furthermore, I did not notice any wall sockets for general use (laptops, printer, smartphone chargers and so on). how many wall sockets are there, and where are they situated? I assume it is relatively straightforward to run cables in the walls of a stick-frame tiny house, but a lot more difficult to run cables in walls made entirely of SIPs. Also, how feasible would it be for this design to be used off-grid? Would it be possible to install solar panels on the roof, and where would the batteries and control panels be situated? As there is no roof overhang and guttering, how would it be possible to collect rainwater?

I took that to mean the structure of the building, its self, not a single kitchen counter inside. I think it was a personal possession of his, wasn't it? I should watch this again. Some of these videos seem to have less than stellar audio quality, but that could be my aging ears, too. (: Over all, I liked the attractive simplicity of this tiny house. The upgrade of the appliances keeps it from feeling as tho' one is suffering deprivation of some sort in the amenities.

I am looking for family that thinks like me. Traveling with a tiny home and big truck sounds cool. Lettuce and chard and kale can be grown on the walls. I would also like to live near a river for clean drinking water, or travel along side rivers. Or living on a houseboat would be really cool. A garden on a houseboat with a turbine and solar panels moving along the rivers of America, finally making it to the ocean for some reefs and snorkling. I had a NDE as a child. I knew then there is no such thing as death. So these are the types of books I read. I have felt many instances of energy enter and leave my body. I have felt energy beings fly through me, walk in to me and up to me, and lie next to me. I know that we are holograms because we spin, vibrate, pulsate and rotate too fast to be solid. In the book "Hands of Light" written by the NASA physicist Barbara Brennan, I found these words "People are eternal holograms, multidimensional, electromagnetic, energy/light/love. I have just been evicted because the electrical outlets in this apartment are not up to code. Loose outlets are fire hazards. These apartments should be fired/evicted from the system because, I have been told, they hire only 1 electrician for 24 properties. Their cut off date to fix this electrical issue is August 10th 2017 , then I have to move out. So isn't there a code that says these apartments have to be forcibly caused to hire an electrician? Immediately. Well, this is why I am moving. I pushed the issue when everyone else doesn't know it exists. Look it up. Loose, not tight, not twisted down wires around electrical outlets and blades and their wires are/have big chance of arching. These should be first priority.

$55,000.00 sounds kind of high priced. So only higher income groups can afford them. But then they are nice and built better than the Travel Trailers. I think they are right now a fad and not such a good investment unless one could afford to loose $$ later when selling them. Toys for the rich are well made. However, if you want something a little different to meet your specific needs, it may be a little more or a little less depending on what you want. Our websites are: Facebook.com/tinyhouselifespace and tinyhouselifespace.com. The Facebook site is updated more often than the corporate website so check that one out.

What are the walls exactly made of?
@daveferry5018
@daveferry5018 7 лет назад
The walls are made of SIPS panels. These panels are about 3 inches thick and made of compressed industrial polystyrene with sheets of fiberglass on the interior and exterior. It is amazing stuff. It is mold proof, termites won't eat it, it won't rot, it's fireproof and has an insulation rating of about 17. It is the same technology used to build walk-in coolers in restaurants. Keeps you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. And so strong you can hang a flat screen TV on the wall in the living room.

@daveferry5018 7 лет назад
Not in this model. But it can be arranged. If you don't want a bath tub, you can get a shower stall and a stackable washer/dryer next to it in the bathroom. If you still want the tub, you can get a longer trailer with more room for you washer/dryer.

Why didn't they look in the closet by the door?
@tootz1950
@tootz1950 7 лет назад
Two things: 1. Cooking would be a nightmare with the stove in a corner with not even a slender counter to put a cooking spoon. 2. Why was she not even curious as to what wa behind the door next to the front door?
@daveferry5018

Tiny House Life Space will work with you to design the layout of your tiny house. You want a bigger kitchen... you get a bigger kitchen. That's to good thing about buying a tiny house from an architect. Also, what's behind the door next to the front door? A relatively large closet.

I love it and the bathroom isn't right beside the kitchen! I just hate it when they build the bathroom right beside the cook stove! stinky and nasty!! I mean when the home is a micro I understand but when the home is a little larger they can put the bathroom like they did this one or even put the washer or closet just something to seperate the kitchen from the bathroom!!!

the presenter seems to sneer at the house. It's too small for her. She doesn't like the look. Okay, fine- others do. Using SIPS panels is a fantastic idea- makes the whole thing go together quicker and is better insulated while at the same time being lighter. It's made to live in, not bounce down the road every weekend. I love this little house.

there's this one place where you go live for a week or so and build your own tiny home and take it with you when you leave or get it delivered. trying to remember the name. it's a huge place and they have up to 20 to 25 people at anyone time and work on five or six tiny homes at once. there is a professional crew there and they get it started and work with you. cost? 25 to 50 grand, yeah not a typo, includes room and board. might be tiny house university. yeah, ok, went and googled it > www.incredibletinyhomes.com/tiny-home-workshop/ - what a terrific concept. of course, they can do the whole thing for you too.
