A week ago I downloaded the Kindle version of the 1944 Diaries, the diary was written by Frank Capstick who served on board what we know as Sirinda but back in 1944 it was a naval vessel supporting the fleet and took more than an active role in the D Day landings I believe Simon & Gemma have targeted having the ship ready to join the 80th anniversary celebrations. It really is a good read, yes there are lots of days just going to stores and cleaning but there were many days dodging the German mines and air attacks, all of which Frank captured in his daily diary. In the great scheme of things it not expensive and is a good way to support the work Simon & Gemma are doing in trying hard to renovate this historic ship…..so well worth either buying the paperback or downloading the Kindle version to support the cause as I understand all profits go into the project.

Hi Derek, thank you for the wonderful feedback, I’m so happy you enjoyed the book, it’s great to be able to look back in time from 80 years ago! It’s the history that made us fall in love with the boat. We appreciate your support xx

I agree with Derek. I purchased the book as well. Fascinating read and after reading, I find that watching your videos has me thinking about Frank and his tasks as referenced in this. From the wheelhouse cleaning to painting chores amazing documentation of life aboard her. You both are doing an awesome job in this restoration !!!

I'd love to see the build of your new shop. Can't see people complaining, as you're working on milling for Sarinda in it when built, and saving money in the long run, so more money to spend on Sarinda.

Definite yes on the workshop. Definite no on wasting time filling the holes in the boards. It would be much easier to put up a very thin plywood, or the thin shiny stuff they put in bathrooms it's easy to wash off. You two are so wonderful. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.

As far as your painting goes - Simon is always striving for perfection,, one of my traits, but at 66 I've learnt that it holds you back from acheaving. The Royal Navy would say, "paint it, but don't fill the holes", it's a happy medium while maintaining maximum protection. Think about it, you'll do the right thing. 👍👍

Simon your work will be faster by using a set of drill bits, like a set of sockets, you can find the correct one immediately. So when one is broken replace it and keep the set complete, or like me when I leave a socket in the engine I buy another.

I get that re-engineering the electrics in that compartment isn't repairing the structure in the engine room, which is the priority, BUT I suspect the generator will be a key enabler, because it will allow you to use power tools more on board, meaning you can work faster on other things, _like_ structure. So you can make a case that sorting the new electrical panel & getting the generator going IS the priority, because it make so much else on the boat possible...

Sarinda has come so far since you guys bought her! I can see how proud you guys are of her! 72 feet worth of boat is a huge project. You're doing it the right way. Structure first. Watching you guys go from compartment to compartment. Seeing unique problems come up. Then applying your cool solutions is the content😊. You guys are very talented with your woodworking skills! Kudos guys!

Seems like you two are very well matched for personality and work ethics. From the outside I see a great friendship/marriage/partnership and a really cool project that illustrates your talents. Being American, It was hard to understand through the accents and some of the terminology at first, but now I can turn the closed caption off and get along just fine. Fill the big holes. It can’t always be about the practicality of a task. You need little victories of beauty to keep you motivated. Time spent making something pretty is how you build satisfaction. Gemma, you have the mindset of a contractor, while Simon has the mindset of a Craftsman. You need to balance both.

Fabulous episode of Ship Happens, starting with the beautiful drone footage at the beginning. Welcome back, Gemma! So nice to see you again. Si held down the fort admirably in your absence, but it's nice to have the R-team back together. In answer to your question: The more Gemma and Simon I have during my week the better, so I think it would be terrific to have regular (mid-week) updates of your workshop build. I also had an idea for a (permanent) wall within Sarinda: how about a mural depicting key aspects of Sarinda''s history? Not sure if you will have some wall space to do it, but if you do, it will be a lovely feature.

I wouldn't worry about fixing ever imperfection in the boats aesthetics. I think its safe to say that when shevwas built, noone would have been botheted if a few scratches, dents or imperfections were made to look as though every part of the build gad to be 100% perfect. The rebuild is going great and adding time to a tight schedule is some thing you might regret. Dont want to take sides. But if your going to cover those walls with cupboards, electrical cabinets or anything else, is something id forget about.😊

Simon, get some non food grade silicon spray and put it on your clamps. It will help keep the epoxy from sticking. It also helps wood slide easier on your saw if you spray the saw bed and it doesn’t muck up your wood. Just let it dry first on the tool before you use it.

Get it done and paint it. Keep the character as much as you can. If it was bare wood you might think filling it and making it pretty might be a lengthy process but then may be worth it but something that might have 10 coats of paint on it just give it another coat!

I applaud Simon wanting to tidy up all the holes and cracks etc., but they are also the stories and the history of Sarinda. I think you should concentrate and carry on with restoring her and leave the finer finishing once she is seaworthy again. As usual it is great to see you both reason it out with each other and in the end you will always prevail to get Sarinda further fitted for another sailing. Great work as always and thanks for explaining for us as we cannot be there to see for ourselves. Cheers from BC in Canada

Any video you two do will always be entertaining and the more variety, the better so bring on the shed build. I'm with you on Narinda's resto needing to be logical. Priority on the hull, then the deck then I would investigate her bottom. A bit hard when she's sitting in the mud but must be done at some stage. I wouldn't even worry about doing anything to the interior until the exterior is watertight, strong and comlete. Then, draw up a floorplan and stick to it. This will let you know what to keep and repair, what to rip out and what to build new, easy ha ha.
