Wooden Mast in a Sea of Aluminum  

But it looks so much nicer than an aluminum one.

My 1964 GP14 still has her spruce mast. I hand sanded it down to bare wood, reglued it, and put 5 coats of varnish. It's one of the first things people notice when they see her. Yes, it is a lot of work compared to a heavy aluminum mast or the new lightweight carbonfibre, but very much worth it.

Aaah you never forget the sound of a wooden mast breaking. 💯

I love the original look of a wooden mast standing but it being more work than aluminum is an understatement
