Is there anything better than looking up a race and realising that it starts late enough that you can fit in a parkrun AND race too! I absolutely love celebrating Race Directors that choose to start late enough in the day that you can run parkrun and then dash to their race so when I saw this race from Great Owl Running then I just had to enter. The Kirkstall Calverley Cutter 16km Trail Race had an 11am start time which meant I had plenty of time to run Woodhouse Moor parkrun before heading home, grabbing my race kit and heading over to Kirkstall.
Woodhouse Moor parkrun was so much busier than I remember it. It was my first run there this year and I must admit that I forget how busy parkruns get at the start of the year with runners motivated by their New Year's Resolutions. I loved the run with friends though. I scanned and ran home to switch kit and head out the door to get to the race.
The race itself was awesome! So well marked and a really great route with an unbelievably brutal hill! A race that finishes at a pub has got to be a winner too right?! The weather couldn't have been kinder, and as I am in a big block of marathon training then this was just the motivation I needed to get out for a few extra miles at the weekend.
Huge thanks to the volunteer team at Woodhouse Moor parkrun and to Adam and the team at Great Owl Running for a fantastic day of running!
