Great trip lads! I enjoyed that. I have been through some of that same area and same campsites, but not the MinJim...yet. Having seen the MinJim on film now, I am not sure I want to try it! :o)

+Wintertrekker Thanks Hoop!! Did you notice the fire pit at 11:00. I believe that was your handiwork on Constellation. We also burnt wood that you cut a year prior. You would not have issues with Minjim. The video just makes it look dramatic. Worst part is the bogs and creeks. No dry feet on that route.

Martin G After I watched, and saw MM's post, I checked my video archives, and yes that was my modified fire pit. It already was there of course in another form, but I modified it for the internal grill support rocks. Looks like your grill was same width as mine because the rocks looked identical. I did not have good back rocks to work with, so there was that big wind hole in the back, otherwise I would have plugged it. I can't tell if that was my wood pile or refreshed by MM. I am sure he probably burned some of the cache and added to it. One of my signatures is wood leaning up to drain and have as much air around it as possible, and if i run out of leaning area, I stack it log cabin style for air spaces. MM may have restacked it. Wood left on on the ground by me is usually rotten already. I think I may adopt MM's signature sticks idea!

+Wintertrekker MM left a pile beside the pit (along with his initials). But, as you turned around and walked up the hill away from the fire pit there was a row of cut logs standing vertical, to the right of the path. We suspected those were yours.

Martin G Ya that is also what I do with poles, is lean them up as vertical as possible to shed rain and snow, get maximum air, and the wood will stay dry and sound for years, and will be dry for the next camper. Its amazing how fast it rots if horizontal or on the ground. I try not to over-cut into billets, and instead keep as much of the collected wood in poles. Sometimes I over-achieve and leave the stack as airy as possible.
