May I ask you a few questions? 1. How many days did it take? 2. How many people were with you? 3. Do you think a single canoe with only 2 people (couple going with no group) is ill advisable? Thanks!
@@TanyaBucci 12 days starting at the community of Missanabie to the town of Mattice. We took our time. 4 of us. I couldn't recommend you do or don't do it in one canoe. The safest number is 3 canoes. On the other hand I personally wouldnt hesitate to do it solo. Only you can answer that.
@@TanyaBucci Not sure where you plan to start. Our route was 265km from Missanabie to Mattice. Most people choose to start at Missinabi PP. Or Peterbell siding.
I see you've also done the La Cloche Silhouette Trail. How would you compare this one to the La Cloche? We did the La Cloche this year and are considering the Coastal Trail for next year. Tks.
I think the Coastal trail is more challenging than LaCloche. Half the trail is on irregular shaped rocks which can be hard on your feet and ankles. Kind of like the Pig portage but for a couple of dozen kilometres. And the rougher portions of the Coastal trail are much rougher than LaCloche. But for the average hiker it is not crazy difficult.
I've done both wet cold weather and coastal was much more difficult! the wet rocks sometime slimy made it very challenging.... both have great scenery ... tuff 20km days, trail is at time not well marked not heavily travelled compared to La cloche!
Great opening shot! Looked like you came close to getting your canoe pinned, nice work getting around that! A very beautiful area, thank you for sharing. 👍👍
Me and my friend met Martin on big trout lake. We were cleaning up after lunch getting ready to go out fishing again and he was paddling by. We met him the next day landlocked on burnt island. We didnt see his canoe and pulled off. Happy surprise to see a friendly face already on the site nearest us. Leaving at 6pm and getting to canoe lake by 9 was quite the feat lol especially considering what all of us paddled through just to reach burnt island
Super nice video, and great paddling! Awesome walleyes too. We had much lower water when we ran this section this year, end of July. Lots of bump and grind. Still a nice trip.
SWEET! We did the lower Missinaibi a few weeks ago, and can't wait to do the upper from Dog Lake next year. Keep on given er! Great to see some fish caught during the fishing song!
Very nice vid dood! Why does Scott's pack look larger then yours? Is he carrying your gear again or did you forget your stuff again? haha..........really enjoyed watching! thanks....
I am watching with envy. I also enjoyed your Meanest Link video. Alas, I am also at home with a broken ankle and I am feeling a bit bitter, but still joyful and appreciative at the prospect of returning to the outdoors soon!
Thanks! I did the perimeter loop starting from Hwy 60. Stayed at Maggie Lake, Clara Lake and Browns Lake. I was supposed to stay a 4th night on Thunder Lake. Because of the rain I changed my mind and hiked all the way out. I don't recommend this. Made for a Loong day.
Martin! Been too long since a new video from you has popped up on my feed. This is fantastic! Two questions: 1) Do my eyes deceive me or are those Crocs I see clipped to your pack? Bahahahaha! 2) What kind of pack is that? I'm thinking of taking the plunge on an ultralight.
Hahahaha I have you to thank for that. Seriously! After those comments we went back and forth on, I sought out Crocs to see what the fuss was. Now I have 2 pair!! 😆😆😆
OK. I am now getting back to you about your soundtrack. Thank you for introducing me to Hawksley Workman! I now have Battflefords on repeat! I am late to the playlist, but never late than never.
It was a very Moosey trip. Saw 2 on the drive up and 13 on the trip! Thanks for letting me know about the pictures.I just looked and see I have a bunch of pictures on Google Maps. I don't actually know how they go there? LOL
@@Martin_G damn 15 that's incredible actually. Do you own a google phone maybe? not sure why they would be on maps other than if you edited google maps yourself.
@@NatureBound None of those pics came from a phone. And they are 8-10 years old. I think they came from an old website called Panoramio that Google must have bought.
Where the heck did you find these 'portages' on the Big East? And I really think it's saying something, Martin, that you've already reached Distress Lake at 7:55, and I'm not hitting that until about 5 minutes into Episode 3 of my series! . . . As in--stop making this look like child's play already!! And why the heck does it seem to be perpetually sunny and morning??? Your talent for understatement is clearly overstated! :)
LOL! I just don't put as much time and thought into my videos as you put into yours. Yours are a whole different League. We also got very lucky and it mostly rained in the evenings and at night. You probably took all the same ports as us. McArthur Chute, Distress Dam, McBrien Rapids.
@@Martin_G well Martin on our trips north of Lake Superior we made our own Portages and some were well over 3 miles of bush wacking. We would loose over 25 lbs of body weight. Our trips were well over 100 miles and some were over 200 miles. And days on Lk Superior. But man you were fit as a fiddle after our trips. We all worked for CP rail at that time. That was handy because we got into rivers that nobody else got into unless they fly in . I’m sure that’s not your type of trip with all the different difficulty we had to deal with and the black fly’s and the bears and wolves. It separates the men from the boys but great memories. This was 50 years ago when all our gear was heavy. Not like today’s gear . That’s what I meant.
@@tombeckett4340 Sounds amazing! I have done a few trips north of Superior including one in the North West Territories. All were much longer than 100 miles. But nothing as grueling as yours sound. Mine were on established routes that go back hundreds of years. While there was the occasional rough spot or bushwhack through an abondoned/burned out area they weren't serious. Sounds like you have some incredible memories!
@@Martin_G Hi Martin I often go back and look at some of the slides and remember of all 6 lbs speckled trout a picks and lake trout. Great memories. And my Wife and I spent our honeymoon on the Slate islands just her and me and 600 Caribou. Many years ago. We also loved the Yukon. We almost moved there sometimes I kick myself. But you know the grass always looks greener on the other side. Thanks and nice talking to you. Tom
That could have been 3 hours long, and I would have enjoyed every minute. You didn't say how long it took you ... I figure at least a couple of days 😊.
