My feelings on resin are do what you want with it. I feel like it adds to the beauty of the wood in most cases by enhancing it. However, it is your work and you make the decisions! You always do beautiful work!

I love the touch of color by adding that bit of resin to the wood. The color and grain in this piece are amazing. Congrats on another fine piece. And you are right, your opinion is the one that counts when you are working on a piece.

I, really enjoy the videos, was wondering if you could mention the time it has taken to complete from start to end? As well as the number of times you sharpen your tools? Maybe even demonstrate your sharpening. Stay safe

Will do! If I had to estimate the total time on this bowl....probably around 6 hours total. There was a lot of sanding, which is usually the case.

Robertson head screws? Nice! Isn't maple great? I could use a bit more variety in my wood inventory, but I'm so glad that the majority is highly figured maple varieties. It's your art. Use resin, dyes, crayons and sharpies, if you want. Who are these people that feel the need to project their insecurities and baseless opinions upon others? Really nice project and just what I needed to watch this evening. :)

Not a huge fan of resin, though I think it has it's place, and you used it well. I ordered the 18/36. Like you said, it checks all the boxes. I got the extended bed, and the roller base. There's a 6 week back order wait, but, it's on order.

Great looking bowl, Peggy. I like turning Maple too, but there ain’t much down here in the South. But we do have a lot of Oak, Pecan, and Sycamore. I have a good bit of White Oak that I cut last December that has a lot of cracks like the bowl in this video. I like to fill the cracks with black Star Bond and sanding dust. The contrast in colors adds beauty to the bowls. I haven’t turned much in the last month, still cutting up all the free wood I got after Hurricane Ida hit. Watching your videos after a long dat of cutting bowl blanks is relaxing. Oh, I’m one that doesn’t use stain or dies on bowls, but I see nothing wrong with others that do. Your bowls are beautiful, even the ones that you color so, don’t worry about the ones that complain.

OK, it is cold and windy in North Dakota today and some of the fence blew over. Good thing a Peggy Video was here to make my day end with a shine and a smile. I have a nice polite comment to those that do not color wood --> Picaso ruined a perfectly good piece of linen when he splashed color on it --> end of my opinion. I love that you go outside the lines and create magical surprises. You have the perfect voice for the narration, soothing and a touch Canadian (eh) Buy a Bowl, Feed a Peggy

I am continually amazed that RU-vid woodturners fill in defects with colors so different from the wood. I would think a combo of brown and black resin or coffee grounds would unitive the defects. There was a large natural blemish in the center of the bowl that could have been replicated with the cosmetic changes. Just an observation. Keep up the good work. I also turn bowls but don’t utilize RU-vid.

Nice job.. I have turned for over 55 years…. In the past I just burned checked wood in the wood stove or rotten wood too.. in the last 6 years I fill them like you here.. I like to use carving tools to cut wider into the cracks or use a burr on a Dremel or Foredom to increase the width of the crack. I cut deeper so when the center is cut out no more patching with super glue and the like.. These are expensive and not colored like the resin..so I fill everything with resin and use resin made by other folks than total boat that cost 1/3 as much with great results..most finishes like friction polish don’t last ..especially if alcohol is spilled on it later and urethane finishes don’t stick to resin.. So I use resin on the finish. Prep by sanding to 120 grit and then apply resin and use a heat gun to smooth the finish while the lathe is turned to 4-5 rpm’s.. I call it the rotisserie finsh and is a mirror finish..I let the lathe run till the resin sets up…Nice video cause it gets folks to think how to turn old pieces that would of been tossed in the past..

Congratulations to the winner! They get a beautiful bowl. I love maple too Peggy, never know what it is going to look like when you start cutting into it. Maine has lots of Maple trees, kinda like Georgia has lots and lots of Pecan trees. I get a lot of free pecan from the yard lol. Have a great rest of your week.

What a beautiful color of resin to contrast with the color of the wood. I agree your opinion is the one that matters most for these projects. However, I like the pop of color on the cracks and enjoy when you bring out the epoxy. Great work.

What difference does the push cut and pull cut make in the finish the finish of the piece? I really do like accent that the resin adds to the total project.

I’ve noticed some of your tools leave a ragged feathered edge while others seem to leave a very smooth surface that needs almost no sanding. Is this a difference in tool design or a function of the sharpening angle or sharpness of the tool?

Probably 2 fold. If I don’t stop to sharpen it could happen and sometimes it’s just the wood being difficult.
