Hi i live in Australia, my name is Jeannette Coman I'm 68 yrs with my carer Reg who is 68 yrs retired. We love watching your shows. Reg has worked with wood making furniture way back many yrs ago so we find watching you a nice way to pass the time. I must say this recent piece you made was interesting with the idea to put two colours into segmented trays then after set time taking them out to then glueing them together with two different colours together made it nice, then with the spacers and another pour of the purple. The colours were nicely blended and at the end of the whole process colours really popped with that new high gloss made the piece totally stand out. The idea of the underneith footing to stand on made it complete. Supa job well made unique. 🎉 love your shows cheers Jen xxx😊

Simply gorgeous! It looks like a piece of ancient Egyptian art. The wood gives a copper, bronze & gold accent to the the hollow form. The pine cone segments look like the remnant of a dynamic Egyptian scene. Mesmerizing!

First thought, I waited all week and you make preformed resin cubes and use milled walnut. Instead of randomly placing them in a mold, you mix the colors, one on top of the other, mirroring around the mold. Not what I was looking forward to at all. However, right up there with all your coolest things you have done for us. Jim, you are very talented, you have the vision, the touch, many of us only dream of. I know its a lot of work moving the cameras, to get the right shot, then editing. Your hard work is appreciated, thank you for sharing your talents with us.

while I am a big fan of your youtube content, I'll confess I'm not usually super into the very colourful, resin-heavy pieces (just not to my taste, no insult to your work which is absolutely top notch) but this one is really quite lovely. Something about the way the bunya pine bits form organic, odd shapes in the finished piece really compliments the swirls of iridescence in the resin, it's very harmonious, and the vertical walnut sections ground everything beautifully.

Well Jim: I have to say that you have out done yourself this time. I really like the colours and the way they blended in with the pine cones. The maple wood was also a good choice for a little extra colour. Putting the foot on the bottom does wonders to the form by lifting it off of the surface. Great piece of work. Next weeks turning will have to surpass this one. Take care and stay safe neighbour. PS: thanks for the segment on getting it out of the bucket.

That piece is right up my alley! Purple is my favorite color! I love that you used pearlized colors in the initial molds and then with the purple. The use of the plastic fruit tray to make the "blocks" with the nut/cones in it is genius! The entire piece is gorgeous! The nut/comes look like wood flower petals almost! How unique! The wood bands up the sides and the matching pedestal look almost gold in the contrast withe the resin. Truly a beautiful and remarkable piece! I just love it! Great piece, Jim! That combination of colours *really* reminds me of something and I can't think what it was. That's going to bug me all day... And some great advice in the voice over on how to get better results when turning your hobby into an income source. I started on Etsy about 4-5 years ago and sold a few canes here and there, but when I joined Pintrest with a "Canes I have made" board, my Etsy views and sales went up a fair bit. I put up my 3rd RU-vid vid a couple of weeks ago and that seems to be driving some traffic as well. As a 'hobby' turner I found your take on the business really interesting. I used to do a load of craft shows - until our association folded. The biggest problems I found were... living in Scotland the customers had very deep pockets but very short arms and the people coming in were older and had all the shelf fillers and trinkets they had accumulated over the years (and were trying to clear out and 'downsize'). Younger folk just aren't interested in hand-made stuff. I can understand why you think it is probably your favourite piece ever to have off off your lathe -- it is beyond spectacular.

My favorite tool I’ve ever used is a lathe… I don’t know why, it just is. I’ve never had one big enough to do large pieces. I’ve made some candle holders, ring holders and stuff like that but nothing bigger. I’ve been looking for a used lather to get back into it but I can’t afford it. I’m a disabled vet so it would just be as a hobby when I’m feeling up to it. That goes for all wood shop tools. I decent table saw will cost you a grand used. All the newer stuff I set at lowes seem to be full of ways to fail. They wobble and flex and don’t hold the fence tight enough… I wish I never had to sell my tools but desperate times… I’m an American but I would still like to thank you for your service. I’m sure your countrymen are thankful as well. I served 10 years in the USAF before I got injured and they medically retired me. This year would be my 20th if I didn’t get hurt, I miss it. Nice work. I would like to know if you still enjoy turning since it became a business? Do you ever do stuff just to do it without the cameras, or is it when you get the itch to turn you just go a step further to record it just in case? Do you have stuff that you recorded and chose to not post the video? Maybe you could talk about how you manage the two and the complications of trying to run a channel. First video, and a new subscriber.

I still love going to the lathe everyday! Woodworking tools are expensive, especially the good ones so I feel your pain in that regard. I don’t really have a lot of time for production work now that I’m doing RU-vid but mange to get some work done without the camera rolling. In the future I will discuss the channel and how it affects other work. Thanks for your service! I was fortunate to get 24 years in before I was medical released. Welcome aboard and thanks for watching! Jim

Hi Jim, thank you for a very artistic hollowed form. The color combination is well balanced: blue , purple, green and the walnut all complete very well. I appreciated your last minute un-planned adjustment on the bottom. I keep telling people who ask me any kind of turning that although I have an intention, the wood has the last word. Thank you also for your comments on the business side of your work. Even if I am an amateur I try not to undersell my turnings at the cost od loosing some sales: I'd rather give a piece than sell it under a fair price to cover for material and some work hours. I also share your choice of doing original pieces on one's market: I used to be a strategy professor and consultant and always said a small business had to be unique, that only volume producers could go for low prices. Your channel helps me tremendously in producing original pieces for my nearby market. As for the laser pen on the Oneway system, I also believe it is the weak part of the system: I have to screw and unscrew the top of the light that keeps coming on and off although the battery shows some left energy on my battery checker. I believe the beam is vulnerable to vibrations. I'll try to find an alternative that fits the system but for know I always have two on hands. I will soon be running out of General Bowl Finish and will turn to Waterlux thought I might go for the medium shine since on screen I do not see such a difference with the gloss finish. Looking forward for your next project. Thank's again

Truly a jaw hanging piece, once you see it, jaw is in the shag. Wowza. I think the foot bottom is perfect for accenting. I used to sell wire wrap jewelry and fancy rock specimens, indoor and outdoor shows. I’m sure we have many stories we could swap. You’re looking and sounding really good. Bravo. I’ve paid up and about to trade my cavity riddled crooked mouthful of mess for teeth in the cup. Got a proper idea and appropriate dread going. Hope I look as good as you do afterwards… I want to start doing resin cast, and am gathering tools, accessories, and (resin & starbond last.) YIPE. Still, gotta have. Gonna have… and Gonna do it. Thank You for for sharing this video. North side of 63k already? Wow. And all us CHIPS (fans) of yours , waiting for the next video, as always. I’m always up for a chance of getting something of yours for my mantle. Awesome awesome awesome piece this time! Sure it will get adopted quickly! Waiting for next time for you to amaze us again!

@@SpragueWoodturning Thank you, as well. Hope you can get the laser going again. I have a .05g to 5 kg scale, that I use a lot but it has a voracious battery killing appetite. Whenever I want to use it, I put the batteries in, when done, I pull the batteries again. I also always keep a stock of it’s favorite flavor (AAA) around. Side question, how big is your pressure pot and do you recommend the brand that it is? Currently shopping for one…
