Join me today as I share a new knitting project and some joyful excitement as I learn more about the Shetland sheep that have joined my farm and their lovely wool! I apologize about the poor lighting at the beginning of the video, it does improve 🌞 Also, I mistakenly said the staple length of wool I was showing is 14 inches, of course it's only 4!

Also mentioned is ‪@SoftShetlandWool‬ Be sure to check out her podcast, she has a tremendous library of Shetland sheep information

The plans to knit a sweater in your meeting of the two breeds you spun sounds lovely, I love that

So happy to see you today! I’m excited to see all your makes, and the wools to come. I finished my knee warmers from last year’s sock spin along (better late than never😊) and if there are any lambs left to be born once we get back to Ireland after our US visit, they will come in handy on any chilly nights of lambing duty. Later in Spring I’ll start (🤞) this year’s spin for socks, with bunny toes!! 🤗

Hurray! I think the knee warmers were a brilliant idea! Just watched your latest episode, too ❤️

Hi Cary, I am really excited to hear about your Shetland sheep and their wool. I was gifted half a moorit fleece last year for me to try processing and I am hooked! My first time processing a fleece as well. Such a beautiful crimp to the black fleece, Enjoy!

It's so lovely to hear about your sheep and their wool, and your experience spinning it. And I'm so honoured to have caused you such a dilemma in picking between my patterns; it brings me a lot of joy that you like them so much!

Thank you so much for explaining the difference between rueing and shearing. I had never heard of rueing so now I feel much more knowledge…. Thanks!

Thank you so much! And I'm learning about Shetland along the way 😊 I've had sheep most of my life, but only a year in to caring for this charming breed!

How fascinating Cary! I had no idea that sheep "rued"(?) That is so cool. Will you be breeding and selling sheep also? I love the sweater pattern you chose and the tree picture is a perfect match! ❤️

Thank you Renee, you'll have to come and visit the sheep! Yes, hopefully there are five Shetlands bred (and three Corriedales). We should start lambing end of April if the boys did their job 😊

Hello Cary - I've just recently discovered your podcast and am truly enjoying every minute of the viewing, both current and past episodes. Thank you for your warmth and wise words - I've learned a lot. I've just purchased Marina Skua's Weod pattern and plan to use a light grey Romney handspun for the body with Sunday Morning DK in "Copper Kettle" for the colourwork. Also, many thanks for the post regarding the Caora Sweater - a great project for some Plotulopi I have (though I like your colours better!). Wishing you, your family and all the critter's the very best of good health, peace and joy.

How very exciting for you Cary. Your sweater is going to be gorgeous. Like you, I love Shetland wool, it is my most favorite to spin and knit with. I have been lucky to have gotten a couple of fleeces from Jen, and I absolutely love them. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. Always a highlight to my day! ❤🐑

Hi Cary, thank you for sharing about the Shetland sheep and how they naturally shed their wool. Very interesting. I’m still spinning away for the socks, slowly but getting some spun up. I also like Marinas RU-vid. She’s very talented.😊

You've inspired me to participate and start spinning for a pair of handspun socks. i've uploaded a video about it. I don't usually spin for socks as i am rather heavy footed, but I thought it might be time for me to do it! Spinning from your own flocks must be an incredible experience, i can only imagine. I have some combings from my cat and my dog, but sadly, no sheep here!
