This peculiar 1978 pseudo-documentary on the paranormal can be seen elsewhere on RU-vid, so go find it and watch the first 35 minutes (until the lingering shot of a goose), because that's what's missing here. But then come back to this video, a late-night broadcast recorded from WOR (channel 9 out of Secaucus, New Jersey, serving the New York City metro area). That way you can then enjoy how the commercial breaks totally ruin the creepy vibe, just like we had to put up with back in the day! Still, I pity the dozing night owl who opened their eyes in time to catch a glimpse of some of this freaky nightmare fuel (see thumbnail)!
This sometimes nutty, often dull flick was made by Wheeler Dixon and narrated by Sidney Paul. It is so infested with inaccuracies and outright BS it would be hard to detail it all, and in fact I'm not sure it wasn't meant to be a parody of the "mondo" film genre. The first 90 seconds or so seen in this video is so random and mundane it’s hilarious.
Many (if not most) of the photographs and artworks shown and described are completely mischaracterized-easily checked in the age of Google Lens-in a way that could only be willful. For instance, a frame taken from the infamous Roger Patterson film of "Bigfoot," shot in Northern California, is bleached black-and-white and described as being a photo of the big guy "striding across the icy tundra of the Himalayan mountains." It doesn’t come across as agenda-driven, however; it seems almost playful, or perhaps even dumb-headed. (To be clear, in case I’m overselling it, “painfully crapulent with stock footage” may be the best description of all.)
Nevertheless, the ability to fast-forward through or speed up the relentlessly meaningless footage (and mute the sound, which at times would make a good soundtrack for a toothache) is certainly an advantage of modern viewing. This movie is ideal for customization.
Judging from the Mets promo on here, this airing was sometime before Saturday, August 24th, 1986, possibly the very night before (that is, the early morning of). I hope to add some more description of the commercials found in here later. I will note that the opening glitch (dead air-spooooky!-followed by Art Metrano briefly appearing as "The Great Metrano" in a promo for Entertainment Tonight, newly added to the station's line-up) is exactly how the recording begins.
No rights held or implied. (If you'd like this video removed for copyright reasons, please contact me rather than notifying RU-vid, I will gladly take it down from this channel.) Check out more cool vintage video at oldtvads.blogspot.com...

The term “Some people believe” is doing some extraordinarily heavy lifting for the duration of this show.
