Had to use this trick a few times.. The older worcester fans pre 2016 tended to suffer from this due to the power surge when reconnected after a buner seal replacement, after the power lead disconnected. Best idea is to leave the fan lead connected when removing the 'banana'..

How long is a piece of string... initially it saves the customer a new fan immediately but warn them it will need replacing sooner rather than later.. especially for winter😮
