Nice to see there's still boxed units out there! I've still got the box and instructions for my identical MZ-R70. It's the best unit from that era in my opinion. ATRAC 4.5 and runs for hours off a single (rechargable) AA battery. 2 headphone jacks to share your music with a friend, and digital optical recording as well as a dedicated mic-in. Outstanding! 👍😎

Certainly feature rich. A little noisy (mechanism) nowadays. Very handy for using up batteries that other devices say are dead. I just wish I had been into minidisc when you could still buy new.

I was always a fan of the r700. I remember lusting after one of these after seeing ads when I was a teen. I eventually got a near mint blue one years later.

You mean the R70, or R700? The R700 looks like a nice player, but I've been put off that type of circular button design because of the problem I had with the N505. As you know, it turned out to be a problem with the ribbon cable, not the rocker-buttons, but it still makes me wary. BTW, comparing my working R70 with the one that we discussed before, I still can't see why the 'door-closed' button doesn't register on the broken one. They metal button-bush looks the same on both. Manually pressing that sensor button seems to make the player work, but when the door is closed it doesn't. I'll look again another time.

Oops, meant r70. I sometimes typo on my tablet lol. Another thing to check is the alignment of the bit on the door that presses on the door close switch. Sometimes the bit is bent off just enough, or broken off from a rough teardown of a previous owner.
@CBitsTech
@CBitsTech 3 года назад
I've looked at the alignment and compared it with the working one. Looks similar. Eventually I'll take the bottom cover off and have a proper look. I also want to look at a no-power MZ-E900 I've had for ages. Do you mind if I ask you something? My early E900 video has three times the views of anything else. It's no different to others I've posted. Do you have videos like that, and if so, have you any idea why some videos do so well? I just can't figure it out. Thanks.

@@CBitsTech Sure, yeah it happens all the time. Some random video I made on a whim is very successful while a project video I pour my heart and soul into only barely scrapes by, it's the magic of the youtube algorithm and what happens to interest the masses at that given moment. If I had to guess though it's probably a combination of the e900 potentially being a more popular model than others and the video being up longer and hitting that golden relevance window where interest peaks and views accumulate due to some trend or maybe an external link that shines a spotlight on that video. I've been doing this youtube thing for about a decade and I still haven't found the magic formula to consistently hit that sweet spot on every video lol.

Thanks. Magic and voodoo have been replaced by algorithms. Btw, the mint blue R70 looks nice. I quite fancy something blue next time.

I had this model in high school and it replaced my RioVolt SP250 CD player. That was a great CD player too but a friend broke it and replaced it with the next model up which was trash so I bought this MD player and i fell in love with the sound quality and size.

I quite like it as a player; looks good, good display, AA battery. Unfortunately, most are quite noisy nowadays, but yesterday I made mine more quiet by applying a very small amount of lithium grease to the laser sled runners. The main problem is it's not MDLP (LP2 and PL4) compatible. It looks more modern that it is.

haha! You always have the same units I end up acquiring, and I found your video yet again after acquiring another MD Recorder bundle. I shelved the mz R37 for now, It has some real serious issues, but of the 5 or so other recorders I have from recent acquisition, this is one of them, and mine was in pretty good shape too. its funny, mine is just as loud it seems. I wanted specifically to hear someone else's and this was great, confirms my mech is damn near where yours is too, which begs the question - has this unit held up for you? Mine doesn't seem to have any functional issues, just that same set of sounds! Cheers for another helpful video - I think its time I record some too haha, so you have something other than your own videos to watch for relevancy. Either way, keep up the great work!

Yes, other people say these are noisy too, but reliable. I don't use mine often because (I think) it's SP only and I have a few LP2 playlists. Nice looking player though. Please do some videos, but don't steal all my subscribers 😁

Mine does a rustling noise, probably more papery than yours but might be just microphone translation. I own 2 other portable MDs and none of them make that sound, perhaps because I lubed the motor spindle when I took them apart for fixing? I don't know/remember. Too many years since I bought my one and only MD which I sold shortly thereafter.

I can't remove the battery cover, maybe it's stuck, is there a solution? I do the same as in the video, but it still doesn't move. I just received the model.
@CBitsTech
@CBitsTech Год назад
I bet there's a battery in there that has leaked, and the corrosion is causing the battery cover to be stuck closed. I would try gently hitting the cover with a plastic pen or something to try to break the seal, or if there's a little gap next to the cover drop some white (distilled) vinegar on it, or lemon juice, in the hope that it will seep in and eat away at the corrosion. IPA might be good too. As a last resort, you could pry it open with a plastic or metal spudger but this may damage it. Insert the tool in the edge above the word 'OPEN'. The cover slides open perpendicular to that edge. Good luck.

I understand. I wanted to release one video a week, but life gets in the way. Before I started YouTubing I had no idea how much effort went into produing videos. Shooting them is fine, usually, once you have the right equipement, but the editing often takes about five times the time it takes to shoot them, then getting them posted takes time too. So, don't worry about it. Just do them when you have time and energy. If your content is good, people will be pleased whenever you upload. I just subscribed, by the way :)

That looks like a nice set of headphones, but way more than I would pay for headphones. I don't think my hearing is good enough to hear the high quality, I spend too many hours close to nightclub speakers years ago :(

Hi Cbits Can you do a video about sonicstage on Windows XP
@CBitsTech
@CBitsTech 2 года назад
Hi Paul. I doubt I'd do a SonicStage on XP video because I'd have to go to the toruble of digging out an XP laptop, installing SonicStage, ripping some CDs, etc. That's a lot of work. I already have SonicStage on Windows 7 and Windows 10. Is there a particular aspect of SonicStage you're interested in? Have you seen the modern alternative to SonicStage? It's much less hassle than SonicStage. Check out this video, about 18 minutes in ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-loYd27dOwdA.html

Not yet. I bought some lithium grease to see if that works. I will do a video when I try. But if you have the same problem, maybe it's just a noisy model out of the box.

@Christopher Choi Ah, sorry, I just realised that you linked to your own video too. Yours sounds noisy like mine, but I think I also hear the sort of noise a CD player makes when it can't read the data and is trying to re-read a sector of data. So, first of all, the mechanism seems noisy in both our players. Mine seems to read the data well enough, but yours seems to be having trouble reading the data. This could be due to a dirty (or failing) laser, or it could be that the gears that move the laser need lubrication. You could try to clean the laser using a cotton swab and some 99% isopropyl alcohol (IPA). I will lubricate my player and get back to you with the results. It may take a while for me to do that though, sorry.
@CBitsTech
@CBitsTech 3 года назад
@@chutsu_io We cross-posted. For sure, seeing three of these all noisy makes me think they're just noisy players, but lubrication might help. I'll let you know.

Yes, very noisy, but I've just managed to make mine a bit quieter by adding a tiny amount of lithium grease to the bars that the laser sled runs on.
@subliminalvibes
@subliminalvibes 3 года назад
It's not usually that loud but yes, a little lithium grease may help, and although it IS well known to be a bit louder than other motors it is the most efficient MD motor Sony ever made.
