Working on a Ibanez Jem Jr.

I got me one!! I gotta white Jr. it’s friggen awesome!!! And that’s the truth!

I prefer the GOTOH GE1996T over the OFR but either unit is far better than the pot metal junk that comes stock on the Indo made Ibanez guitars.

@@jeremywills9303 I do too.. I put one in my Jackson soloist, which is way better, but I was just saying for generalization that the Floyds are a direct drop, which the Gotoh is also, cause my Gotoh dropped right in replacing the floyd that came w/ the Jackson. And the Gotohs are cheaper in price. My favorite trems are probably in order the original Edge, Edge zero 2, Gotoh GE1996, then the OFR.

@@jeremywills9303 the lower price end of Indo made Ibanez yes. those "DL's" (double locking) that name alone screams generic.. But some of the higher priced Indo Ibanez have the edge zero II's I like those. But again you're going to pay more than 500.00 for a guitar with better hardware.

@@ryant3600 I've never messed with the Edge 2 or the zero etc.... your probably right. I had an older JS100 that came with the Lo TRS and that thing was atrocious. Luckily the Gotoh unit dropped right in. I've also had an original Edge in an S 520 that was awesome. I stupidly sold it. The only negative thing I remember about that one was having to periodically replace those trem arm bushings when they wore out. It's been quite a while since I had a Floyd style trem, I'm thinking about picking up one of these current Jem Jrs as a mod project. I've gotten spoiled to hard tails these days. 🤣

@@jeremywills9303 Had the Edge is my all time favorite Trem and yes those bushings do wear out over time, but you can put them over a flame like a lighter just to get them hot, (not to the melting point though) and them put the arm back in and it locks back into place, but I know my Rg 570 came w/ a few extra's and you can order them. My best friend from high school went to GIT back in the early/mid 90s and his dad bought him a JS100 as a congrats on getting in type present and he hadn't pulled it out of his closet in many years, so he asked me if I would be interested in cleaning it up and setting it up etc. Which of course I did and I was surprised once it was all done how much I really loved playing that guitar. I offered to buy it from him, but his dad has since passed and he didn't want to get rid of it, even though he doesn't play it, he's really into Tele's now. But I heard bad things about the Lo TRS trem's. But, this was a 94' and once I cleaned it up and got rid of some of the old rust and dust, it held up like a champ, dive bombed the heck out of it and it stayed true. The Edge Zero II I like cause the nut on them to tighten the "blocks" to hold the strings in, is on top so you don't really have to block the trem and have the block kinda be in the way of the nuts etc. And it seems to hold up really well as well.

The Jem-Jr from 2002 is slightly different compared to today's JemJr. Also known as the Jem333. Wether it's better or worse is debatable. Different body wood and no tree of life inlay on the fretboard. I think they stopped making the original Jem-Jr in around 2012, then introduced the JemJr in 2015

i believe so. the wood is porous more than the wood but maybe a few quickly removed applications could do it.

I love my Harleys I own 5 of them so far, but I love my Ibanez guitars more. I have the original Jem Jr, that I've upgraded and changed a few times over the years, and it's still a great guitar to play. Ibanez just feels right in my hands, probably cause I've been playing them since the late 80s ha. But, I do love my Harley Benton SC-550 plus a lot. It's actually my favorite single cut guitar I own and I have a Les Paul standard and a LP Custom. I still prefer the HB those EMG retrocactives on it sound so good. And the neck profile feels better in my hands over the Les Pauls. I don't have Paul Gilbert length fingers and huge mitts for hands.

@@ryant3600 I’ll second that, but without ever owning that whatever guitar brand you named, I’ve played multiple guitars before getting an Ibanez jem jr. I have a hellraiser c-1 fr diamond series schecter and it’s amazing but I almost never use it, the Ibanez is used daily, the wizard 3 neck is perfect.

@@scaremoth334 that's to bad, cause a lot of them nowadays are really great.. They're made at Cort in Indonesia, same place as Ibanez and many others

The jemjrsp uses standard yellow instead of desert yellow. In my opinion i think the standard yellow looks better
