Another way to make it easier, even though it's not an accurate translation, is that Khal = King and Khaleesi = Queen.

As others have probably said, don’t feel like you have to apologize for being quiet. This absolutely is the show that you have to really pay attention to. But it does get a lot easier to follow the story and characters and locations as time goes on. A lot easier. The beginning is always the hardest.

Very common issue: Khaleesi is like queen, or simply the spouse of the chieftain of the Khalasar, which is basically the tribe. Just like Drogo's first name isn't Khal, he IS a Khal. They refer to her as Khaleesi, their queen, but her name is Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryan, or just Daenerys Targaryen. This is a very common issue with viewers of the show for some reason, so you're in plenty of company. lol

Arya is easily my favorite fictional character EVER!!! The show does an alright job portraying her. Maisie Williams was absolutely TREMENDOUS portraying her. In the books, Arya is left-handed but Maisie is right so she trained to swordfight lefty. Not an important detail at all but I certainly appreciate her taking on that challenge to bring the books to life. I have a feeling Arya will be one of your favorites too. And I hope it inspires you to read the books. Because there is SOOOOOOOOOO much more to book Arya than the show could ever attempt to do.

This show is one of the few shows I watched the Intro every time. It actually changes over time as the events unfold, castles and locations are revealed and characters move around.

What I look for in a great reaction is if you look interested in the storylines, engrossed in the drama. I can see by your tears, shock, laughter, etc. whether or not you are enjoying the show. So don’t fret about not saying too much 😊 Turning your subtitles on would help you with names. Thanks for another great reaction 🤩

Don't need to worry about finding something to say. Not only because you need to focus so you can understand as much as possible (especially since these are the foundational episodes). But also because it is too significant of a show to miss things because of talking to the camera lol

SUGGESTION: try to pay full attention when there is any dialogue. There are call backs that might come in future seasons. There are small clues on many of them. not sure it was mentioned before: Cersei and Jaime are twins. also, never blink when there is some bloody on screen... something important might come a second later.

Seasons last for years in Westeros and a winter that lasts for years would be a risky affair with not being able to grow crops etc.. therefore "winter is coming" became the Stark motto

2:45 That conversation will be very important to Jamie's character later on. The motivation. You'll see. This is such a good show. Until Season 7 it was my favorite show of all time - after that it dropped from top 1 to maybe top 7 or something.

Not spoilers!! In the books all the Stark children except 2 have red hair and resemble Cats side of the family. Arya resembles Ned’s dead sister and has dark hair and John has dark hair.

Incest between the queen and her brother is more than weird. However, in medieval times and long before, it was believed that royalty was truly set above the common people, that it was in their blood. So to keep their blood pure, they had children with each other. They had no idea about genetics. Take a look at the history of the Hapsburgs. That was one of the most inbred families in history (also a very long ruling and incredibly powerful dynasties ever). Cleopatra and her sibling were from a long line of incest, she was even married to both of her brothers (not at the same time).

Don't worry, it took most of us until season 2 or 3 to remember all the names and places, and the only reason we still remember them is because most of us have watched the show multiple times AND have watched dozens of reactors watch it lol. So don't feel bad, things will start to stick eventually. Maybe even take notes on the names and locations. Writing things down makes it easier to remember for me personally.

Sadly how arranged marriages go. Robert is the king, he says his son and heir will marry his lord's daughter, then they marry. Ned almost has no say in it, not to mention Sansa or Catelyn (mother). It is a medieval patriarchal society. Children marrying is making alliances, daughter married to the powerful lord or even a king makes a very powerful ally.

'Love ravens. They rise on thermals and soar. Crows lack the independence of ravens.They fly in flocks closer to the ground and must continuously flap their wings to maintain flight. Ravens are majestic. Very intelligent. They were, in fact, used as carrier birds, relaying messages.

Royals have been marrying their cousins since time immemorial, traditionally as a means of strengthening political alliances. What might be surprising though is that members of the royal family have continued to marry their cousins, right up to the present day!

I love that scene of Ned watching Arya practice and how he starts hearing the clanging of swords. In the books he is remembering his sister Lyanna & events at the Tower of Joy. Arya is said to be the spitting image of Lyanna in appearance & personality while Sansa is much more Tully (her mother's family) in appearance & personality. So it would make a lot of sense that Ned would be thinking of his sister. The last time he was this far South was the last time he saw her & made a promise to her as she was dying. Anyway, Sean Bean does a tremendous job there. How his look of joy turns into a sense of sadness. He did truly love his sister (not in a Lannister/Targaryean way) and must've had a LOT of respect for her. She was a remarkable young woman. Standing up to bullies at the Tourney of Harrenhall by secretly entering the tourney and defeating the bullies...even enduring the wrath of the Mad King by doing so. I hope that I've properly teased you with some key backstories without spoiling anything. The backstory will come in very handy much later on. I hope you're able to remember it cause a LOT of shit is gonna go down between now & then.

I'm sad to inform you that this show is very much a "slow burn" type of thing when it comes to the "supernatural" of the series, like the White Walkers. But like most slow burns, it's ABSOLUTELY worth the wait. The show really does pay it off for those that are patient. Ugh, I'm soooooo jealous. I wish I could erase my memory and be able to enjoy this for the 1st time like you. It's such a fun wild ride. Seriously, the first time watching this show it took me through every emotion possible. I would literally jump up out of my seat & cheer at things. It would also absolutely break me & leave me sobbing beyond the credits finishing. It would make me laugh. It would frighten me. It would get me SOOOOOO angry that I would've become violent if I was face-to-face with the characters....a real tribute to the actors.

A little back story... The king previous to Robert Beratheon was Aerys Targaryen (the mad king), he is the father of Daenerys Targaryen (Khaleesi) and her Brother Viserys Targaryen. Viserys beleives its his birth right to be king hence all the pratting around that he does. so you will hear Robert being called usurper and Jamie called the King Slayer, it all harps back to Roberts Rebellion. This isnt in the show it happened many years before the show. oh and incase it hasn't been obvious so far, This world has 2 very distinct seasons, Summer and Winter, normally Summer may last 5 or so years and same for winter, but somtimes there is whats called the long winter which may last 10 or more years.
