Hey there, I found this video because I've gotten into toymaking with a flex rubber, I absolutley love the medium and it's so fun to cast and mess with. I had a SMALL question that I can't seem to find anywhere else... how do I fix bubbles and imperfections on my rubber casts, ON the actual casts? I don't own a vac chamber so I've been extra careful with my pours, and its working great, but I'd love to somehow salvage some pieces that didnt turn out as good / have big gaps. Can you heat or melt leftovers? Or do like, a paintover or something with another mix of it? I'm just curious how people who work with rubber fix an issue like a gap or bubble hole or have any hacks. A lot of issues I run into is accidently not checking feet or platforms of my toys for bubbles, so when I pull them out, the feet have some gaps. I just dont know exactly the 'best way' to fix that *and* get a color match, other than making a new batch, holding the figure pefectly up for an hour (cure time) while I wait for it to cure? TYSM, wonderful video!
@NicoProps
@NicoProps 2 года назад
you need to allow the air to escape the best way if you have undercuts is to tilt the mould and move it during the pour so it fills everywhere. next thing to try is to cut air channels in the mould. another tip is to dust the moulds with talc before the pour. good luck

Hi! Thank you for this video! I’m pretty sure this is the exact form of liquid rubber that I would need for my project! I tried finding the polytek PT-Flex 70 casting rubber but it’s all on back order and the link in the description takes me somewhere else 😢 Do you know what would be a good alternative to use that would yield the same result (colorable as well)?
@NicoProps
@NicoProps 2 года назад
any castable urethane / polyurethane rubber will do, you just have to check the durometer of it, flex 70 is 70 hardness
@brokenhare4462
@brokenhare4462 7 месяцев назад
Have you had any success painting polyurethane rubber?
@NicoProps
@NicoProps 7 месяцев назад
I haven't tried to be honest but I expect you would need to have a rubber-based paint with a solvent in it which would also work on the poly casting as well so they bond
@King3star
@King3star 2 года назад
Great video, thx. Is the PT-Flex 70 rating on the Shore A? What is the hardness rating for silicone rubber?
@NicoProps
@NicoProps 2 года назад
its measured in durometer normally, but you can order samples and test them with a Shore A meter
@NicoProps

@NicoProps
@NicoProps 3 года назад
sounds to me like there is something on the inside of your mould reacting to the rubber most likely is moisture. try warming your molds up a little in the oven before you use them. or use some talc in your moulds, just some baby powder would do, put a little around the inside of the mould shake it around to get a good coating then bin the excess by bangging the mould out over the bin.
