Echo seems extra confident in explaining and supporting his point. I dig it. Jocko‘s the man, but love seeing Echo being more confidently assertive. He doesn’t give himself enough credit, usually.
@@jlove0311 "shape" is subjective.. It is different for every1. Im in pretty good shape. Decent amount of muscle, cardio is pretty damn good especially in BJJ. I do high intensity everytime i lift weights, hit the bag, kettlebells etc. I still am not happy. i dont think you ever will be. youll never reach that moment of "im in great shape" & if you do, slap yourself & go get some more training in. GET SOME
It isn’t a program or a diet or anything like that that matters, it’s all about commitment and consistency in whatever program/principal, way you eat, etc. being great is being consistent for a LONG period of time. Echo nailed it.
@@peetos-chan2835 oh totally agree. The biggest problem is people can’t be consistent with anything… program hop, ideal hop, etc. pick something and stick to it, and if you have a specific goal, stick to something specific to your goal
Getting the hard work done and eating good nutritious food you cook yourself is more rewarding than you can imagine. Don't be on a diet have a diet the difference is if there is a word before diet, get rid of that and get a Balance that works for you.
Literally gained 10lb this year getting up at 4 am to go lift- and started BJJ so right now that’s my only cardio lol Definitely building muscle, strength and flexibility
I like Echo and Jocko cracking up a bit about Jocko promoting his upcoming book. I am sure it will be great, I am 53 and I've learned a lot from these guys. Thanks Gentlemen
Yep...I have been involved in Crossfit for about 4 years. The past year and a half have been a shit show due to work, slight injuries and, just being a pussy. I have gained 10 pounds and probably lost 5 in muscle. But, I got out of my routine and have to get it back. Thanks for your help. Routine is the key. We have a nutrition/accountability challenge coming up in the gym.
Tis true, i try to get the basics of your workouts without spending money so that way i can incorporate it into my routine. Im already somewhat fit but just trying to get to that next level.
For 10 damn years, I've been trying to gain strength and muscle mass. My problem was consistency and discipline. Jocko's disregard for recovery time has inspired me to wake up early and work out every single day. Even if it's just going through the motions, it's been helpful. It all comes down to discipline! Since the pandemic began and people were focused on booze and tiger king, I started getting "on the path." I didn't need specific workouts, although that would help. I used the "commander's intent" of what Jocko had been taking about and got great results. I've gained about 30lbs of lean muscle mass since March. It was simple: wake up early and work out, eat more steak and veggies, eat less sugary and processed foods. Molk and Discipline Go helped a lot too. I also recommend a healthy dose of heavy metal! Jocko and Echo are a huge inspiration and I'm forever grateful. Thank you Gents!
The biggest thing for me is the cut phase. Im currently 3 weeks in and I feel no strength to lift as heavy as I usually did when I was like 10 pounds heavier. Im running a lot and consistently going to the gym 6 times a week to keep my muscles from degrading.
The biggest mistake people make in the gym in my opinion is doing what other people tell them to do. You should do what your body tells you to do, fx for me flat bench doesn’t work for my chest like the decline and incline does
I can't entirely agree on that, but in a way you're right: if you're feeling too much pain while doing an exercise, just stop and try to change it or replace it entirely. Also, it's a good idea to have the opinion of someone more expert or more qualified than you are (saved my life)
@@FJ24. listening to my body was one of my biggest mistake. Doing the same exercices over and over again not knowing that I needed recovery time to avoid injury because I didn t feel tired . Not eating enough because I didn t feel hungry not doing leg day or any compound exercices because I felt better doing only biceps isolation exercises. I m lucky I ve met good people at the gym who told about nutrition, recovery, stretching, programming. ...Thinking that what we feel is enough is a mistake. We are made to teach and learn from each others. That s how we get better.
@@Versace117 i mean obviously do your research and use common sense, but with the recovery part of things if you feel fully recovered then your fully recovered pretty simple
Testosterone can help those that have low T and lack motivation or are not well, so that they can even attempt and have a chance too make there fitness goals a reality...only thing missing was hormonal issues, or is that in another channel? Great Podcast liked it a lot..peace
Good video for after Halloween. Remember to stay on the PATH. 1 pc of candy: 30 push ups 2pcs: 6 pull ups 5 pcs: 40 pushups, 8 pull ups 10 pcs: Pray to God and ask forgiveness for your gluttony
"Do a bunch of pushups one day. Do a bunch of pullups the next. Do a bunch of squats the next." Repeat....I latched onto that quote of Jocko's from another podcast when he was giving advice to a training partner on how to get stronger....it works!!!!
@@johnbinlkof4842 i do and i add a day of cardio(high intensity interval) on the 4rth day and then repeat with a rest day when i need it....and i change it up every 6 weeks...it works for me
@@johnbinlkof4842 it will work, but losing fat is 90% eating less calories and less sugar. Eat meats and vegetables and don’t eat fast food or lots of breads.
@@Primetime_dads I dont have the actual link but it was a couple years ago and he was talking about doing Jiu- Jitsu and there was a student in his class who was really good at technique but not that strong. He asked Jocko the best way to get stronger for jiu-jitsu and that was Jocko's answer. you could probably find the link by searching "jocko talks about jiu jitsu"
Sir, motivational as (almost) always¡ Speaking about consistency, I believe it should be applied to getting back to the main idea and finishing it or, at least, not jumping from an idea to anther praiving us from having the “aha” moment ;) Perhaps it’ll be useful to make an initial mind map of the ideas and the concepts you want to speak of or debate, and that would really help the non-native better understand and follow the ideas. Metcon before wod works for me 🤟🙏👩👩👦🏋️🤼♂️🥋
I’ve been working on body weight more than anything lately I’d like to be able to rep 80+ push ups I’m only at 60 right now before I’m gassed I can push a few more out but 60ish is my average
Try switching hand positions...learned this in the army where everyone was looking for any edge they could get to improve thier P.T. test scores...different hand positions recruit different parts of your arm muscles ...allows you to squeeze out a few more reps.
If that's what you want, great! I'd like to know why specifically? I started bodyweight training 2 years ago and I also wanted to do high rep but after a while I changed my mind. Now, I do 30 or 40 max with different hand positions (the one I like the most is the pseudo-planche push up.
Try to add a different stimulus to the mix. I.e. elevated feet, diamond pushups, ring pushups AND play with the tempo. 2-3 sec Pause at the bottom or a very slow lowering phase. All this will carry over to your normal pushups. Edit: plyo pushups can help a lot, too
Wait... I've only seen a few podcasts.... But I think you said that in Jiu Jitsu it is good to socialize and communicate. It is good emotionally and mentally to be a whole and well rounded person. Cool. But in another podcast, when you are addressing relationships with wives/significant others/family, I believe you said that not communicating is preferred. Each partner has their own time and you work together as a team to an extent. Does good Jiu Jitsu include healthy family life and communication? 🖤
Is the book that Echo talks about mentioned in this clip? I think it was a by a Russian author? Echo said he gained a lot of mass doing the program, and I'm trying to remember what the book was titled.
A high protein diet is associated with a decrease in longevity. How do you balance that? Maybe taking just the protein amount you need daily should be better.
Find a private gym, run, push-ups pull-ups, core training, buy some dumbbells and get creative. Thats what I did during the unconstitutional unlawful house arrest/lockdown. No excuses’
@@Gapkid5 gyms have to follow the rules here in Iceland but I am doing push ups and pull ups atm so I don’t loose as much as I did when the first lock down happened
@@FJ24. : get some stones or build a heavy sandbag with sand and an old duffelbag. You can build a axle-bar with a 50mm metalpipe. Even paratroopers in the middle of the korangal valley got some workouts in. No fuckin slack!
This is nothing new most top bodybuilders back in the day would do 20 minutes of cardio before you even lifted the weights... the warm-up included cardio and stretching before lifting up a barbell. Big proponent of that was and is Dorian Yates look him up he only won six consecutive Olympia's
Sorry it's 3 years late but unless you're an absolute beginner that really isn't much. I can do 300 within an hour as a secondary exercise whilst I'm doing heavy deadlifts and I'm not all that
I challenge anyone to a game of physical fitness HORSE. Think call out CrossFit Freestyle. Skill for skill, challenge for challenge, first person to spell HORSE, loses I put $1000 on it. I challenge anyone.
Suo echo and Jocko. J man. Here I'm dieting today. Paid tomorrow. Water and one meal today. 2 coffees. I smoke too. I asked for that last one. 100 I asked for all of that. Thanks. Stay good friends.
It's not that hard, I dropped 15 kg's in the past 4 months just by doing a lot of walking and lifting some weights at home. I try to get some activity in every day so I'm active. The food part isn't hard either, there is a bunch of good stuff to eat which is healthy. Need a snack? Just eat a carrot and soldier on.
