@@romasandmo you perhaps be nicer to your grandmother, the way you speak to her is disrespectful. She is great cooker and you use her to make your own business snd use bed language.
Man labai patinka jos receptai. Šauniausiai mokytis iš senelių jie labai gardžiai gamina. Linkiu sveikatos ir lauksiu nauju receptu. ❤
I'm from Boston, MA USA and have Irish, Scottish and Lithuanian roots. I grew up eating my Grandmother's (the lithuanian side of my family) potato pancakes for years. This dish looks delicious and I will have to try it! Thank you for the detailed information!
Ačiū for this recipe. My grandmother made these and I miss them so much. I tried my best to follow along but they fell apart in the boiling water. My dough looked much more wet and sticky. I used 1/2 grated raw + 1/2 boiled potatoes - perhaps the ratio was wrong?
Your grandma is so cute. I really enjoyed your video. I miss zeppelins and I miss Lithuania. Thanks for reminding me of my childhood.. need to make these soon 👍
I'm sorry, I don't understand what is the yellow grated thing you add in the big yellow bowl together with the drained potatoes and the starch... Please can someone tell me? 😍🙏🙏
I don’t understand why we don’t have these in Albania , I tried the Russian version of these (Vareniki) for the first time at 14years old , can’t wait to try Lithuanian Zeppelins 😮💨

I had a Lithuanian girlfriend and I have never eaten so many potatoes in my life! Her friends saw me making cepelinai and said it's almost only made by old women and I wouldn't be able to make it. It was my first time trying. 4 Lithuanians sat at the table, scoffed the lot without saying a word, and then got up. GF started crying telling me she hasn't had a proper home-cooked cepelinai in years.
Ziuriu kelinta karta ir i tarkius supylete kazka geltona, bet nepasakete, jauciu maltas bulves, bet to nepasakyta,o tik tada krakmola sudejote ir viska ismaisete!Idemiai ziuriu.
When I was in HS my neighbor moved from Lithuania with his mom. I'd go over there all the time and always loved her food! I only had this one time and was amazed. It came to mind so I messaged him the other day. I'm going to have to try making this!
Loved to watch this. My girlfriend is Lithuanian. Every day she speak with her mother on the phone, and im really surprised how much i picked up of your language. Im going to impress my girl with zepelini now, but i think i will skip the growing of the potatoes part. And your machute is didelis grazus.
@@romasandmo i thought didelis meant something like very much☺ and i now realize that i have called my machute and girlfriend big and beautiful all the time. 🙂 thank you for your reply
In my house my dad prepares the soil, I plant and my sister harvests the potato. But it's usually around 2 or 3 buckets only. I will definitely try this recipe!!! In Germany we have something similar but filled with bread not meat. My grandpa makes them in the style of Thüringen region. It starts like your recipe but after pressing the potatos you have to dry the potato so that you get flakes, then you add the collected starch again. Then you cook mashed potato but make it quite liquid. Then combine the hot mashed potato with the grated potato and the starch and mix it. Then form the balls while it is still very hot! (Best keep the cold water running to cool your hand after every ball you form) then cook it :D (in this case it's called half and half because it is made half with raw and half with cooked potato) My grandma used to put the grated pressed potato in a sack in the washing machine and turn on the spinn cycle so that the water would come out without her having to work on it ;)))
That's not as much as my grandmother likes to grow ;D Anyway, your recipe sounds interesting. If we ever decide to make it, I'll try to find a video showing that, so we could see it before we make it as it doesn't sound easy ;D Let us know how zeppelins turn out for you. If you are on IG, you can use #romasandmo to post a pic and I'll sure be there to give you a comment on this traditional Lithuanian food!
hmmm weird. possible mistake in ingredients list in description. on ingredients list says only 0.5kg of boiled potato. on video looks bigger amount. 4kg of unpeeled raw potatoes. gives 1:6 ratio boiled vs peeled raw potatoes. this is on the lower side. usually it is 1:4. You can also see 1:3 and 1:5 ratios in other recipes.
I just came back from 10 days LT/LV/EE. Both me and my husband agreed that LT kitchen was the best :) My favorite is the cold beet soup. I have no idea how have I lived for 3 decades without having tried that! I saw your video recipe of it and I will be making it tomorrow. Only problem is here in Bulgaria is not common and easy to find beets in a jar, so I have to boil mine and grate them. I will use only bulgarian yogurt and sour cream, because kefir is also not common here. For sure it won't be as tasty as in LT, but I will give it a shot!
I am Hungarian but must say that I love Lithuanian food for some reason, when I first tried to make Cepelinai, sadly it all went wrong, will try this version, can’t wait! Hats off in front of the grandma!
I really enjoyed your video and will try the recipe. Wha kind of potato’s do you use? Never seen potato water this yellow when making dumpling. Visited your country last year for the first time and it was an amazing experience and loved your food.
Pavyko tiesiog nuostabiai! Gyvenu Olandijoje ir pagaminau sveciams, liko patenkinti lietuvisku maistu. Skonis buvo kaip vaikysteje po bulviakasio 😉 Aciu!
When my family grew potatoes we would always chop them to about 3 eyes a cube in when we were planting them instead of planting them whole. This provided better spacing.
Hi, that was some boiled minced potatoes 😁 You can always find a link to the recipe in the description. Here it is for you: gauchas.online/worlds-most-advanced-zeppelin-making-tutorial/
Thank you so much for this recipe, I’ve not had them since I was a small child and moved to the United States. I never knew how much work my Mociute put into making them for us.
Thanks! Yeah, it takes a lot of work and minutes to eat everything 😁 Here's a recipe, if you haven't noticed it yet from the description: gauchas.online/worlds-most-advanced-zeppelin-making-tutorial/
@@victorleduc INGREDIENTS Meat 0.8 kg (1.8 lb) minced pork 2 chopped onions 1.5 tsp. basil 3/4 tsp. pepper 3/4 tsp. salt (or according to your taste) Coating 4 kg (8.8 lb) potatoes 0.5 kg (1.1 lb) boiled minced potatoes Potato starch from grated potatoes 1.5 tsp. salt (or according to your taste) Sauce 0.25 kg (0.55 lb) bacon pieces 1 chopped onions Water Water 1.5 tsp. salt (or according to your taste) My grandmother and I take you through the journey of traditional Lithuanian dish - Zeppelins making. Everything from growing potatoes to making Zeppelins. It took me months to complete this video, but at the end I think it was worth it! You decide. Cheers! DIRECTIONS 1. Plant some potatoes, grow them and harvest them. 2. To make the sauce, add the bacon to the pan and fry it for about 10 minutes. Then add chopped onions and fry them for about 2 minutes more; 3. Mix the meat ingredients thoroughly; 4. Grate potatoes and then mix them with all coating ingredients thoroughly; 5. Nib off a piece of coating and, then flatten it in a palm of a hand. Add some meat to the middle, then close it and by rolling between the hands form a zeppelin. Grandma’s tip! Wet your hands with some water, so the zeppelins would not stick so much to your hands. Also wet the tray you are putting the zeppelins on with some water as well; 6. Add some salt and starch to the boiling water. Starch is optional, but it evens out the sur-face of the zeppelins. Put the zeppelins into the boiling water and boil them for about 25-30 minutes or until they are done; 7. Eat them with the prepared sauce, some sour cream or anything you like it with. Cheers!
@@romasandmo No, not yet. With the pandemic, I am not travelling abroad. By the way, my Father told me today that that this is something he loves and remembers his Mother making for him. His 83 birthday is in 2 weeks and I will use your Grandmother's recipe. Thank You! Love and Blessings to You Both!
