Such an evocative piece of music. Growing up in the seventies and eighties I can easily identify with the sombre mood of the melody and the bad times that sections of British society were going through. Think piled up rubbish, closed-down factories, child prostitution, the Yorkshire Ripper, bleak hospital corridors and so on. Think World In Action.
All I remember about World in Action was the scary organ-based theme tune and the even scarier image of the man with multiple limbs and his genitalia hanging out. I think that was from a Leonardo Da Vinci sketch but I found it really creepy at the time.
Ahh, that Granada endcap will always make me think of a serious Granada face to accompany the serious Granada programme (well young me thought it looked like a face anyway, if you squint a bit)
The strike at British Leyland is entering its fourth week, today we visit one of Britain's worst council estates, they call this the winter of discontent, we catch up with the leader of the National Front and some Millwall hooligans, welcome to the seventies.
I didn't but thanks anyhows. If you listen to a song by The Damned called Limit Club, you'll hear a similiar sound to Careful With That Axe Eugene by Floyd. Sometimes my Dad would let me watch late night TV /News At Ten when I was very young and that darkness rubbed off on me : )
