World of Warcraft: Cinematic: “Reckoning” (Spoiler) 

Saurfang, Thrall and Anduin were leading the combined Horde and Alliance forces against Sylvanas and her Horde loyalist army. The city they were at was Orgrimmar, which is the capital city of the Horde. During the fight when Saurfang cut Sylvanas and she then said "the Horde is nothing" and got that death stare from her bannerman, it showed that she doesn't actually care for the Horde. It seemed that Saurfangs plan all along was to trick her into showing her true colors. After which she killed him using her magic. The scene at the end when Thrall said "we bring him home" was referring to bringing Saurfangs body back to Orgrimmar. Which is why it was a pretty powerful end scene when it showed the bannerman tap her banner to the ground signalling them to open the gates of Orgrimmar to let them bring his body in. So all in all, it seems like Sylvanas lost the support of her loyalist army and now all forces will join together to beat her, but that is just my speculation at the end there.

So just some info about the ''fairness'' of the battle. Mak'Gora doesnt really have any rules. The rules are determind by the participants before theire battle beggins. The amount of weapons used, usage of magic atc. So unless the rule of no magic is said by any of the 2 fighters than magic is allowed. So what Sylvanas did was not dishonorable, she was allowed and fully justified to use her magic at any point since neither Saurfang nor her set any rules. When it comes to the ''Castle''. That was the main city of the Horde called Orgrimmar. Sylvanas was the newest warchief (Hordes leader). On the other side was Saurfang (The old orcish soldier) who rebeled against Sylvanas due to a thing she did in the past. Saurfang hated Sylvanas for the way she used and lied to the horde and brought it to a place without honor. Because of this rebelion the Horde was split into 2 sides: Saurfang believers and Sylvanas loayalists. Saurfang made a deal with the King of the Aliance because both of them wanted what was best for theire people and theire world. So when Aliance and The Horde was standing infront of Orgrimmar they werent facing enemies but theire brothers and sisters inside theire home! The Mak'Gorah battle was always ment to end like this and Saurfang knew that! It was intentional. He needed to make Sylvanas angry so that she would show the entire Horde her true colors. Which she did and his plan worked, but what unites people more than a happy news? Tragedy! He sacrificed himself so that the horde would unite again, saving countless of lives, preventing a war between both sides of the Horde AND showing to Aliance that The Horde are people who simply want to live theire lives. His sacrifice united his people and The Aliance. When Sylvanas yelled ''The Horde is NOTHING''. You can clearly see how the undead who was holding the Banner slowly turned to her in shock! They realized that Sylvanas never cared for The Horde and when she left, she left them without any leadership, they were alone. So when the guys picked Saurfang up and brougth him to the gates of Orgrimmar, the entire Horde started to make that ''Ding Ding'' noise as a sign of respect to Saurfang and as an appology for trusting Sylvanas. They let them in so that they could burry the hero who saved them all! PS: The ''Soldier'' that gave Saurfang his sword was The King of Aliance!

She was the horde war chief (sylvannas windrunner) and when she screamed the horde is nothing it showed her true colors so the loyalists realized they shouldnt fight for her anymore and let the rebels who were side by side with the alliance (humans) into the city because they realized they're fighting for the same cause as them against sylvannas.

The ending scene when they “bring him home” is powerful because Saurfang did what he set out to do: reveal Sylvanas’ true allegiance and to convince her loyalists that she is not worth following. Coming into the cinematic, they were two factions ready to do battle but like Saurfang said “or perhaps just one [life],” his own life rather than the countless deaths a battle would have caused. They gain entry to Orgrimmar to bury him in the city that was his home.

The castle is a city. It was a rebellion to dethrone Sylvanas for her war crimes. The spoiler is that she did not care for the people she was leading, they were just tools to advance an unknown plan of hers. Also Saurfang received the "warrior's death" he wanted from the first cinematic.

The Horde capital of Orgrimmar is where they were fighting. Sylvanas was made Warchief in the Legion expansion, and made a lot of... questionable decisions. The really powerful thing in the sign of respect at the end, is that it was HER bannermen. The undead, of whom she was their queen who were holding the flags. She turned on her people, and called them all nothing, and Saurfang got his horde back. The ultimate sacrifice.

in Battle for Azeroth there was the Sylvanas (warchief) horde side and Saurfang/Thrall horde side (those who didn't accept Sylvanas actions like burning a tree with... pretty much innocents people living inside) thing is : Sylvanas don't really do things "for the horde" but for herself, Saurfang sacrificed himself to open the eyes of those who could't see that and avoid unnecessary losses. When Sylvanas said "The horde is nothing" those who were loyal to her realised they did a huge mistake. And the "enemy castle" is Orgrimmar: it is the capital city of the horde and was under control of Sylvanas until her loyalists realized they were betrayed. you should see "the negociation" this one happened before "the reckoning" but it still help a little to get how they get there

The majority has been explained by other people here in the comments, but to explain that part at the end: The Orc traditions state that when one challenges the other to “Mak’gora” both opponents are only allowed to use either their bare hands or martial weapons like swords, daggers, axes, etc. It’s illegal to use any type of magic during “Mak’gora” which is why Sylvanas dipped right after she killed Saurfang, knowing she had broken the rules and the Horde was not gonna stand for that. Rip our boi Saurfang.

Blizzard uses extensive mo-cap for these cinematics, particularly for facial animation. There is a great video showing them do some of the mo-cap for Anduin for the original BfA cinematic. It is still extremely impressive what they manage to do, however, particularly with the faces of orcs. And there is undoubtedly a lot of hand-tweaking to achieve those results.

The alliance "soldier" was King Anduin, son of Varian; He gave his fathers sword to Saurfang.

If you want. There are several "post credit scenes." Even includes the Sylvanas loyalist cinematic.

One of my favourite things about Blizz cinematics is they're hand animated. Masterpieces imo.

Never knew you all did Wow's cutscene's they were almost always legendary even when the game was poop. I am sure all the comments told you but he won by revealing her as ONLY about her and having her remove herself as leader of the Horde. Some back catalog this morning. You guys should do the rest of these at some point. Wife and I left after Legion I recommend alot of Legion's cut scene's.

There was basically a civil war forming in the Horde. Sylvanas was Warchief but she was doing very questionable things so many people broke away from her, lead by the main orc Saurfang. They were laying siege to the Horde's own capital city, as a rebellion. At the beginning Saurfang said "Those who defend Orgrimmar are Horde as well, our brothers and sisters", that's what he meant. The reason they let them in was because they heard Sylvanas shout "the Horde is nothing", and they realised her true character, that she cares nothing for them. So they opened the gates and let the rebellion and Saurfang in, because they realised what the right side to be on was.

The "Castle" is called Orgrimmar. It is the capital city of the Orcs and therefore the capital of the Horde. Sylvannas was made warchief of the horde, many inside the horde didn't agree with her methods and turned against her. That is why they took him home, as orgrimmar is his home that got over taken by a reckless warchief.

4:55 its funny to say that cause what you saw in the cinematic is called "Mac'gora" and its a battle of strenght between 2 people only by using swords,axes etc but NOT magic! it is forbiden!

Pretty late to the video here but I figured it would be fantastic to see you react to the longer video since you have reacted to all the parts. They released the videos out of chronological order so they could get people excited for the story, but the longer video is in true chronological order. Just a few notes about it as a whole: The younger orc from "Safe Haven" is Thrall, the founder of the Horde who left some time ago for a peaceful life. The blonde human is Anduin, a priest and king of the Alliance. The sword is his father's who passed recently (he was much more the warrior than his diplomat son). Mak'Gora is the oricsh tradition of ritual combat. Though the rules are allowed to be stated before hand, there are some common themes that are usually followed: no armor, no magic, witnesses for both sides, and a transfer of power to the victor if not to the death. Thrall, when founding the horde, decreed it shall not be to the death to preserve his warriors (unless both sides asked for it to be such) If I forgot something I do apologize, but this should be perfect to clear up any questions the cinematic leaves vague as "knowledge players of the game should already know"

That blade that split apart is is name Shalamayne but before it was called that it actually two blades Shalla'tor (Shadow Render) and Ellemayne (Reaver) used by 2 twin night elves named Vor'llian and Lo'vellian then later on Jaina had the blades and gave them to Varian when he was split into 2 people to fight a black dragon who split him into 2 people she fused the 2 Varians back together and the blades fused into a new sword. That blade is badass....if you wonder what the most powerful weapon on Azeroth there a axe called The Axe of Cenarius and it bascially a WMD and it is currently owned by Saurfangs niece Thura. When Thura shows up heads will roll.

They do use some mo-cap.

Like most of the comments say, if you wish to know more of what you saw in the cinematic then follow these easy steps. 1.) Download the game! (It's free to play up to level 20.) 2.) Spend $15 for a months worth of game time and try out the game for real by exploring the massive world of Azeroth and delving into storylines that many of us have come to love and adore. 3.) If you actually get the game and like it then the last step is to savor it! Don't rush through it all just to see the end game stuff and to hit the highest level cap. Enjoy your time and embrace the large sums of lore this game has to offer.

She was leading the horde, that was the horde headquarters. Saurfang teamed up with the blonde dude, remember?

That was Varian's sword.

sylvanas is current warchief of the horde. saurfang is leading a rebel faction that does not agree with sylvanas's methods. the rebel faction joined with the alliance to march on orgrimmar. the horde capitol. they let him in because regardles of his current standing, he used to be one of the horde's biggest champions. so he's allowed to be put to rest within the capitol.

Ever since Arthas Menethil, the Lich King's first death knight tormented her, and turned her into the first Banshee when the Undead Scourge ravaged the high elven kingdom of Quel'Thalas, she has forgotten the meaning of the word. From that moment on she only knew that dark power and deception gets her what she wants.

They will probably end up making her the end boss... would make sense. She was always a bit in between and it would be fitting that the character that opened the game with her voice over gets to end it. I do love her though... she's the most complex of the characters and Patty Maddison has done an amazing job putting life and intend into Sylvanas.

They City Was Ogrimmar. Capitol of the Hord. Sylvanas was the War Chief of the Hord at this time. But she lead them into war crimes which is why the hord split. Those on her side and those against her. Basically the hord and the Alliance just got rid of Sylvanas and the Hord got their Home back.

That gate they fought in front of is the main entrance to the Horde capital city. the entire war arc is basically the horde vs alliance and horde rebels. at the end they were taking him home to be buried

Sylvana cheated not on the duel, she cheated to the whole Horde, by taking advantage of her position as the warchief. Saurfang exposed her cheating(dishonor) to every present Horde member, whether Saurfang loyalist or Sylvanas loyalist. In a way, yes she cheated; but not during the duel but from the beginning up to the point where she was exposed. Now the Shadowlands begins, i would expect we kick her Bossy ass in this next expansion. Hehehe

He was right, its all CG. Blizzard few years ago even said in an interview, that making 1 cinematic takes them about a year, that is making 1 6 minute cinematic. They dont motion capture anything They were doing makgora, there a warrior fights a warrior without use of magic, only a shaman can enchant a weapon. When you said, its not fair fighting yes, she at that moment actually lost the makgora.

Everyone including most players missed the epic part of this cinematic - for the first time in the history of World of Warcraft they opened the gates of Orgrimmar to allow an Alliance King to enter the gates. That had never ever happened in WoW since it's inception. These cinematics are designed to mislead and conjure one's imagination but if you don't know the Lore of WoW then you've missed and will miss all the subtle Easter Eggs in them. Don't just look at what is shown listen to what is said as well. Always remember Lady Sylvanas has knowledge of things no one else has leading up to and into the Battle for Azeroth and the coming Shadowlands Expansion
