So yeah. Calia Menethil is pretty much the last heir of the throne of Lordaeron. Sister to Arthas, she's having difficulties trying to lead these Forsaken, humans from the Kingdom who were risen into undeath by Arthas. Also in the earlier video, Tyrande received the tear of her goddess that she shed in a previous cinematic, now turned into a seed of some kind, so it will likely grow into a new tree that could possibly accommodate the night elves since their home tree Teldrassil burned down.

Ah okay. So it’s going to turn into a tree. Makes sense 🙂
@domdom3938
@domdom3938 2 года назад
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Probably, we don’t know yet. But it is a seed fuelled with the souls of their people and their tree burned down, so that’s the most obvious thing that can happen. Though with the life and death stuff it’s also possible it will “revive” Teldrassil or simply grow a new tree in unison with the burned one that just stands there.

I appreciate some of the animation subtleties in these cinematics. Stuff like eye motion, breathing, shifts in posture. Stuff like that makes the characters more lifelike. Even Lilian Voss (the undead talking to Calia Menethil) looks like she has some slack muscles when talking, which makes sense as she's undead. She is actually a character that I'm glad they have brought into focus, as her story is pretty interesting. She was first introduced in Cataclysm, and you encountered her when you made a new undead character, in the starting zone. She was a newly risen undead too, and initially afraid of you and in denial of her own undeath. She sought refuge with her father, who turned out to be a high ranking member of the Scarlet Crusade, a group devoted to destroying undead. That meeting didn't go well. She had a few more appearances in that expansion and then mostly disappeared until recently (she might have appeared in the rogue storyline in Legion, I can't remember). Calia Menethil was absent from the game before Legion, although I think she was in books. She was resurrected by the Light, as a sort of 'light undead'. Lots of other undead don't trust her because of her brother being the one who damned them to undeath in the first place, and of the different method of her resurrection. So that cinematic is sort of them bonding over their shared outcast status but also resolve to help their people.

Many of the Kaldorei (night elves) spirits in the past, have remained among their groves tending to the forests as friendly forest spirits, they are also the same balls of light that exploded themselves to destroy the big demon at the end of Warcraft 3. Many people believe that they are doing essentially doing the same thing with the seed, and will emerge with it once it begins growing.

While Shadowlands as a whole was a complete debacle of a story. The ending was handled infinitely better than any of us long time Warcraft fans could have expected. This just seems... fitting. Regarding Calia, yes she is the sister of Arthas. She was actually the first born, but obviously Arthas was the heir to the throne as firstborn son. In previous expansions, she tried to work to reunite Forsaken with their still living relatives to help them find some kind of peace. But durring the reunion meeting, Sylvanas assassinated her. But unlike the rest of the Undead, she wasn't raised by Arthas through the usual methods of unholy necromancy. She was brought back to life by the Naaru, but is still also undead. And because of this, she is still viewed as an outsider to and not fully trusted by the Alliance. Also worth noting, that because she was a princess as the daughter of King Terenas, and the only remaining member of the family still "alive", that means she is by all rights the legitimate Queen of Lorderon. That in and of itself will make things "interesting" from the perspective of the Alliance. But also, because she was brought back by the Light willingly with her soul intact, she can't fully understand the internal struggles and animosity the rest of the Forsaken feel, since they were brought back against their wills (with their souls removed and/or enslaved) before they broke from the Lich King's control. That's going to make for some very interesting internal politics within the Forsaken and the Horde. Hopefully, all of this potential will lead to Blizzard actually doing SOMETHING with the character. Because, sadly she has kind of been left on a shelf between her death/resurrection and now. Regarding the seed. Those souls that went into the tear/seed were the souls of the elves who died when Sylvanas had Teldrassil burned at the beginning of Battle for Azeroth. In the game during Shadowlands, there's a quest where you specifically go and rescue those Night Elf souls from the Maw. But the Maw itself is still filled with souls of the dead that were condemned before everything in Shadowlands kicked off, in addition to all the other souls that just went straight to the maw without being judged after the Arbiter shut down at the start of the expansion. What most of us are expecting is that the seed will let the Night Elves grow a new tree to replace Teldrassil.

@willcline5918
@willcline5918 2 года назад
Yep. Calia died but was raised through the Light (the first known case of this). So she feels out of place among a people who are already out of place. There's also the fact that she (as far as we know) can no longer reproduce (no Forsaken can). AND the fat that her brother is the reason the Forsaken were raised in the first place and have to deal with their state of existence. So she's dealing with a LOT right now. The Winter Queen's gift was actually a tear from her sister, Elune, who the Night Elves worship as their goddess. WQ altered it and it *might* be intended to grow into a new Teldrasil (the tree Sylvannas burned at the beginning of the Battle for Azeroth)

The more we hear about Calia in the comments the more fascinating she becomes. Hope she is a focal point in next expansion which these cinematics would lead us to believe 🙂

Anduin went to talk to Sylvanas because they got to know each other very well during his imprisonment. He even came to understand why she was doing what she was doing, he just disagreed with the methods to do it. She was right about the shadowlands needed to be remade, as even when you die you don't get to see your loved ones again and everything is decided for you. Its actually a pretty terrible place for an afterlife. As for Sylvanas, she came to see him as being just like her little brother that she loved more then anyone else. After that, no one knows each other like Sylvanas and Anduin know and understand each other.

So basically that throne room is located in the ruins of Lordaeron, and most of the forsaken in the area were (obviously) former citizens of Lordaeron under the rule of Arthas's royal family. Now Calia, was killed by Sylvanas and ressurected as an undead, and as soon as she saw that not all undead are mindless zombies, but actually free willed and capable of thinking for themselves as well as feeling emotions(which is the biggest difference forsaken have from the scourge) she more or less started devoting herself to helping their cause, although she was not ready to lead them at the time. In other words, she is the last true heir to that throne so it makes sense for her to lead. But I was honestly expecting the other undead woman to lead, Lilian, she has been an iconic character and forsaken, memorable throughout, tons of lore, had a huge impact on the story, and she has undergone such character development that it would feel natural for her to be ready to lead now.

Yes as many have mentioned Calia is Arthas's sister as a lot of her story is really in one of the books, as Calia is an interesting character for the little bit we get of her in the game/books as she is unique in that she isn't the same some of the undead as the others are, as she was raised by the light instead of undeath. Lillian Voss (the other character talking to Calia) is a really great character too story-wise that grew and became a bigger and bigger character. For clarification, The Forsake is a group of undead that was created by Sylvannas by her willpower to not serve the Lich King, allowed other undead to do the same compared to The Scourge which is the undead that is controlled by the Lich King or if not controlled by the Lich King will basically go feral as they have no will of their own anymore. The theory is that the tear/seed will be used to plant a new tree for the Night Elves.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames It was a mix of defiance, but also a chance of opportunity when the Lich King in Northrend was being attacked (this was before Arthas put on the Helm of Domination and became the Lich King) as his power waned and those undead of strong enough will could regain their free will. As Sylvanas took that opportunity to try and kill Arthas, and he was only saved by Kel'thuzad otherwise she would have tormented and killed him.

Calia Menethil is the older sister of Arthas Menethil by two years. She didn't play a big role in the Lore prior to Legion but was at least mentioned a few time. At one point, she was engaged to Lord Daval Prestor, who was actually Deathwing in disguise, but he disappeared before anything came of it. For many years, people were wondering where she was, cuz she just vanished after Arthas killed his father and became the Lich King. In Legion, she finally returned to the Lore and prior to BfA a novel was released that served as a prelude to BfA, which happens a lot with a lot of expansions, and I love it. In that book, we learn a bit more about what happened to her. At some point, she fell in love with a regular foot soldier, and knowing that her father would never aprove of that, they snuck away and begged a priestess to marry them. Eventually, Calia became pregnant and confided in her mother, Lianne Menethil. While at first furious, she eventually aggreed to keep her relationship and pregnancy a secret. A few weeks after giving birth, it was decided the father would raise the daughter away from Lordaeron, ignorant of her birthright. Calia was then promised that once Arthas was properly wed and produced an heir, they would acknowledge her daughter and possibly elevate her husband to a nobleman's status. Sadly this never happened, as Arthas fell to darkness and not only killed their father, but slaugthered the entire kingdom. Calia was thought to have also died in the process, but she actually managed to survive. Eventually, Calia made her way to Southshore, where her husband and child had been hidden away and were safe from the Scourge. And while they lived together happy for a while, even that didn't last, as several years later, the town got attacked once again and in the process, Calia got seperated from her family, and she never saw them again. It's unknown what happened to her husband and daugther, but people have had a lot of theories.

these are good takes! The night elf souls present had been saved by Tyrande, Shandris, and the player character prior to Sylvanas judgment, they actually have been in ardenweald for a couple of patch cycles. There are still other souls (it is not just night elves in the maw, which is what sylvanas is working on, although she could still save night elves that were not rescued by us) We don't know exactly how the tear aspect will play out, but we know it is a lead-in for Dragonflight. Some of us suspect it will be planted somehwere in the Dragon isles and could become a new home for the night elves (and also a new symbol of hope for azeroth) . The souls in the pod may or may not be reborn along with the new tree, but at baseline it will grow into a new world tree, so they either gave their anima to empower the seed to grow into a world tree, or they will power it's growth but also be reborn/revived along with it. There is no weird third option...right?

Their previous home Teldrassil, which was also a world tree (although kinda corrupted), was burned by Sylvanas. So this is their chance now to rebuild what was lost. Sylvanas and Anduin have become kindred spirits, as they both were dominated by The Jailer, she knows how he felt, and he understood how she felt. whereas once they were enemies, they now understand each other more than ever. the gift that was given to Tyrande is the means to remake a World Tree, the very same one that Sylvanas herself had burned down in BFA, i have no doubt that those Night Elf souls will be reincarnated one day as new Night Elf children. the Forsaken are starting to rebuild their old home, a home that Sylvanas left in ruin as she filled it with Plague Gas, that stuff doesnt just go away either, it lingers like a nasty fart in the wind and just as deadly.

I actually think so far the relationship that has been building with Anduin and Sylvanas over time is interesting also you have the other horde alliance releations...Anduin and the leader of the Tauren Baine, Jaina with Calia. You now have people in leadership roles with direct friendly ties to leaders of the other faction which hopefully will allow more level headed talks and cooperation to begin. And I feel that has already begun with the 9.2.5 patch. With the whole cross faction play in the dungeons now they added allowing Horde and Alliance to do raids and dungeons together I feel it is just a testing ground for full cross faction play coming to allow questing etc together as well as the relations between Horde and Alliance are in a better place with leaders on both sides having those friendships like I mentioned above. I feel the whole Sylvanas story will be the final catalyst that push the Horde and Alliance into a better place relationship wise as most of the factions now have more level headed people leading them. After 18 years or so of non stop Horde vs Alliance stories I feel it is time to put that to the side and now work on more cooperation based stories as we come out of multiple major conflicts between the two all caused by some hot headed leaders.

The reason the Winter Queen said "Born of Death and Life" rather than the opposite is because the spirits died in Darnassus then chose to give their essence to give life to this Tear of Elune to create this seed. There's another instance in the timeline when the wisps (souls of the Night Elves) gave their essence to help their kin but that is a story all in itself. You may have noticed we WoW players tend to get overly enthusiastic about the lore we love so much. I have to rein myself in to keep from writing novels when commenting on reactions. As for Sylvanas, she is rescuing the remaining souls in The Maw but the players rescued many along the way our campaigns. (One of the weekly quest was to rescue 20 souls from the Maw for progression in the game. I won't say it got old but... well yes, it did get old.)

Calia Menethil, sister of Arthas Menethil (former Lich King), was killed by Sylvanas and raised by the Light through Anduin, Alonsus Faul (the founder of the Knights of the Silver Hand, now also Undead), and a Naruu. Making her the first Undead raised by the Light, which players find out in-game that makes her no different than any other Undead. Undead is Undead, regardless of the source. Calia also DOESN'T want to be leader of anyone, she just wants to help her people (which she considers the Forsaken her people since a lot of them are from Lorderan). Lilian Voss (the other Undead in the cinematic) was the daughter of a lead in the Scarlet Crusade (Fanatical Light worshipping Humans who want all Undead, other species and anyone who's not on their side exterminated). She's become a voice of the Forsaken on the Horde Council after her father disowned her and tried to kill her (obviously she got him first 😈). The Undead end up forming their own Desolate Council to lead together rather than having a sole one. It was a really cool questline if yall ever decided to watch a video about it

I dont play alliance so im not sure if there is already a clearification about this in the game but for the Horde part we dont have a Warchief anymore we have council with a speaker from every race but those speaker not really leaders more like a senator. So with the cross faction play (alliance and horde can play together) available it seems there will be no monarch in the Alliance too. In fact Warcraft universe can be factionless in the near future i guess. For second, The tree Slyvanas burned down was a "Tree of Life" and homeland of Night Elves so the "pod" Tyrande got is a seed of new Tree of Life means Night Elves will got new homeland and their kin will live on. And the Last girl is Calia Menethil sister of Arthas Menethil, Princess of Lordaeron. She is an undead but unlike other undeads in Warcraft she is resurrected by light magic instead of dark magic. that is why she looks different. Undeads are people of Lordaeron killed and resurrected by Arthas. Most people thought she is gonna lead Forsaken after Slyvanas since she is the last rightful ruler of Lordaeron but Undeads are also created a council and have no monarchs anymore.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I'm not sure about that. The faction we play is part of our identity in Warcraft. If i talk for myself, Cross faction play in game for weeks now but i never played with an alliance yet and I won't do it willingly. Also I think it is absurd you can kill each other in the world pvp (open world map) but then go in dungeon and you fight side by side. I know many people love it but i don't think i will ever have fun playing with an alliance.

Ok, so, about night elves - some of them were saved already by the players during the events of Shadowlands but majority is still in the Maw where Sylvanas is currently finding them and sending back to Ardenweald. That is why some of the souls were already present and have made their choice: to be the root for next generations. This choice really isn't that surprising. A lot of night elves that died throughout the ages chose to become wisps that do not pass on but remain in Azeroth to "help" the others (you've seen them in one of the W3 cinematics when they blow up the demon Archimonde). This time they get to do this through Elune's tear - transforming it (with the Winter Queen's blessing) into a seed. That seed is definitely a new World Tree which will be planted somewhere. We already got a hint right after that cutscene ended: Tyrande was asking Ysera about where it could be planted and Ysera implied that it could be in a place that was lost long ago, aka the Dragonisles. Meaning that is the first clue to the upcoming expansion^^ One of the two undead ladies was indeed the older sister of Arthas whose fate remained unknown to us since Arthas came back with Frostmourne and killed his father. She had been discovered alive right before the start of Battle for Azeroth and also killed by Sylvanas before she declared war on the Alliance by burning Teldrassil. The Light however brought her back as undead (that is why she isn't decaying like the others). The other lady is Lilian Voss who is also a high ranking Forsaken (oh yes btw, Forsaken is the name of the undead class - more about them in W3 cutscenes^^). Now that Sylvanas is stuck in the Maw it falls to them to lead the Forsaken. It was actually implied many times that some dark powers are attracting/overtaking Anduin, drawing more and more parallels between him and Arthas - when he said he's afraid that the Light won't answer to him was a clear call back to what was happening to Arthas before he was corrupted by the will of the Lich King. It also means that Anduin will not be returning back to his kingdom for the time being so the one in charge of the Alliance in his stead will (probably) for now be Turalyon (the guy in shiny armor back from Legion who shouted at Illidan after the "Rejection of the Gift" and also the husband of Sylvanas' older sister Alleria). So yeah, things should be interesting...

Shadowlands was the expansion where _a whole lot_ of drama happened at Blizzard and Activision, and a lot of people resigned a result _(potentially because they were about to get fired or worse when investigations started)._ So with that in mind, Shadowlands to me felt like they were _going somewhere_ to start with, because at the start I was pretty well invested in majority of it. But then the next load of content mid-drama and mid-pandemic and all that took so long, I stopped playing for a bit, as did others I'm sure, I came back toward the end when the majority of Shadowlands' story wrapped up, so I took it all in all at once. And the result of that is... If it felt like the writers were going somewhere with it at the start... Well, those writers must've resigned and took everything with them, because that next bit of content to drop took an immediate turn into asking a lot of "Why?"s, but not in the sense of raising story related questions, more in the sense of _"Why would they decide to do this to the story?"._ It literally feels like the writers that set it up left, and the new writers that took over didn't have the notes on where the story was going, AND couldn't be bothered looking further back into the series history before this expansion when they were trying to make up the rest of Shadowlands' story. It's as if they only saw what was released initially with Shadowlands, and just tried to continue on from there with only this expansion worth of development and world building to go off of. The ending with Sylvanas's judgement, her conversation with Anduin in the Maw and Tyrande being gifted a seed for a new world tree with the souls of her people voluntarily becoming part of it to watch over the new generation is great, I liked those, they're the fitting ends to those little stories. _But they're not so quality enough to say that the expansion landed on its feet in the end._ That's just my theory though, because the writing turned very nonsensical at times. I don't excuse any of it, its just an attempt to throw logic at such bizarre decisions and comprehend what they were thinking. And my conclusion was _"Surely they're not the same people behind the scenes..."_ I don't remember which Warcraft-related RU-vidr said it, but they said something along the lines of Shadowlands and Battle for Azeroth were in this weird state where the main stories spanning the expansions runs were pretty bad, but the side stories have been much more engaging and better. I'm inclined to agree. Ardenweald and Tyrande's Night Warrior troubles _(barring Elune being written like an idiot goddess)_ was so much more interesting to pay attention to than whatever the Jailer was being 7 steps ahead of everyone on _for the sixth time._ _What's a little sad is this expansion story is such a mess that they may end up ignoring the vast majority of it from here on, which would honestly be a shame because there's some really likable characters that didn't appear in the main cutscenes or bigger story moments. They'll probably never be reappearing ever again for anything relevant._ Lady Moonberry is extremely underappreciated.

Yes, she is Arthus’ sister Calia. She is undead but raised through the light, unlike the rest of the Forsaken. In the play through of this, she questions her place as she is different than the others but is reassured that she is the same as they are. She and the other prominent Forsaken reform the Desolate Council to govern the Forsaken, which is the undead faction of the Horde. The tear is what was created when Elune and the Winter Queen came to their accord when Tyrande was being overcome by the Night Warrior transformation. When Tyrande gave up the vengence for renewal, the tear was created. The souls are part of the night elf souls that we rescued from the Maw. I assume that the souls, in their wisp forms, empowered the tear so that it will become a world tree seed, maybe this time, one that will allow them to regain their immortality. In the play through, right after the cinematic, Tyrande and Ysera have a conversation discussing a safe spot for the seed to take root. Ysera suggests “an ancient, hidden place”, i assume this is a reference the new dragon isles but we will see.

Long-ass thesis time! Cinematic 1: So yes, Anduin has always been a "Goody Two-shoes", always gifted in the Light, always a holy person, right and just. With his father Varian being a Warrior Anduin tried to temper his fathers bloodlust and war plans, always saying there is a peaceful option (I think Varian even mentions this in the Legion cinematic). But recently, since his fathers death at the start of Legion, he has doubted himself and his ability to lead the Alliance and his Kingdom. Blizzard also has a bad habit of releasing books to flesh out story and lore, instead of showing it to us in the game. And part of that is in a book leading up to Shadowlands where Anduin had whisps of Void energies around him. (Context: In the game Priests are either Holy healers, Shadow/Void Damage dealers or a mix of Holy/Shadow/Void healers. Anduin has always been fully Holy and very strong with the Light, but now he is starting to doubt his Holy side and realize he might have a darkness within him. Part of him liked the evil deeds he did under the Jailer. This opens up a LOT of Character arc development for Anduin and maybe, for once, Alliance are the ones with some infighting (Horde have had 4 or 5 War Chiefs since World of Warcraft started). Cinematic 2: So the Winter Queen and Elune are Sisters. Supposedly in a form of Yin-Yang system where the Winter Queen takes in souls who have died and either give them sanctuary in her realm or she nurse them back to life where they are sent back to the land of the living. Elune is the goddess of the Night Elves and we speculate the one responsible for souls from birth and during life. However the Night Elves are not always sent forward to Ardenweald, but instead made into Wisps, forrest spirits toat help tend to the woods and animals (kinda what they would be doing in Ardenweald). So the Seed there was created during the Cinematic with the Winter Queen talking to Elune via Tyrande. The Night Elves that sacrificed themselves probably did so to empower the Seed (in the Shadowlands, spirits carry Anima and Anima is the fuel for everything in that realm, so sending souls into it has a ritualistic/magical purpose). Since we did some quests and now the Forsaken have their old town back (which was razed and destroyed at the start of "Battle for Azeroth", with the cinematic being the attack and with Sylvanas drowning it in poison and plague before leaving it) players speculate that it is quite likely that this Seed from the Winter Queen will be used to replant the tree that Sylvanas burnt down in her Warbringers-cinematic. Winter Queen even makes a point to mention that the Seed has been Blessed by both her and Elune, as a Blessed tree is immune to Void/Shadow corruption. The Tree Sylvana sburnt down was blessed by the Dragon Aspects long ago, and a non-blessed tree was planted in Northrend where the Lich King lived, and that was slowly corrupted by an imprisoned Old God until they had to go there to cut it down as the CorCorruption started to spread. So in short, Seed will bring the Night Elves a Tree to live in, and the dead Night Elves there were willing to give up their souls to empower the Seed to hopefully assure the future of their people. Cinematic 3: Yes, the holden one is Calia Menethil, Arthas's sister. The other character is Lillian Voss, a story that I'd say is well worth trying to watch RU-vid videos about! Blizzard seem to struggle with their major, grandiose story arcs but they are doing the older, small and more personal stories a lot better! Calia have been off screen until Legion during which she showed up for Priest players in their Order hall. She didn't really do much and no story. Then in the book leading up to "Battle for Azeroth" Calia and Anduin managed to persuade Sylvanas to let the Forsaken people of Undercity meet with the Humans of Stormwind. There are many living humans in Stormwind who have friends or family as Undead in Undercity, who they did not know were still "alive" (Arthas taking Lordaeron was only 12-15 years ago within the World, so it is within the same generation. Someone's husband or wife, father or mother, might have died during the Lich King taking over and then raised while the rest of family escaped. Now they had a chance to meet up again). Not all accepted the deal and not every family meeting went well, but many did. As time ran out not all Forsaken wanted to go back to Undercity and tried to defect but were shot by Sylvanas's Dark Rangers. Sadly Calia was also killed in the chaos. But here Calia was taken to the Priest Order Hall where Anduin, an undead Priest called Alonus Fel and a Naaru (a very holy being, created from pure Holy energy) brought her back as Undead, but not as a dead Undead and not alive as with a resurrection. So Calia is the true heir to the Throne of Lordaeron/Undercity but she is now doubting her ability to lead a people she cannot really understand as she is not really an Undead herself. She very much echoes Anduins struggles to lead his people and being in the shadow of his Father who was a much liked King. But the Forsaken decided to instead form a council of various factions, instead of having a one, single ruler.

Btw, Sylvanas doesn't have to rescue just the people she killed from the maw, she has to rescue every single soul for judgement. The elves: the tear came from elune, a deity in the living world, and the winter queens sister. The tear became a seed by having the souls of the rescued elves infuse themselves into it, those elves are mostly gone, giving what was left of their souls to the creation of the seed. But they will live on, as willow wisps in the forests surround the great world tree that seed will grow. Just little puffs of light, the boiled down essence of an elves soul flirting about the woods.

What sent her down her dark path. As for the seed. It is going to be the new world tree, most likely. Sylvanas burned the last one. About the tear ... Tyrande is a priestess to the moon-godess Elune, who turns out to be the estranged sister of the winter-queen. In an earlier cinematic when the winter-queen and Elune meet, the winter-queen asks why Elune did not listen to her pleas for help with the anima drought, to which Elune responds that she did, eluding to not having interfered with the burning of Teldrassil to allow the souls and thus the anima of its inhabitants to go to the shadowlands (which is actually quite cynical IMO, but whatever). When Elune realizes, that this "sacrifice" was completely in vain, because the souls of the burned night elves had been redirected to the maw and thus she condemned them to an eternal hell, Elune sheds the tear that is of course not just a drop of salty water with some proteins in it, but a crystallized representation of her divinity. Now the winter queen uses it to create a seed to grow a new world-tree from. (another tear of Elune made an appearance as a powerful artifact in WoW during the Legion expansion)

"Necromancy is the art of bringing life to where there is none." In Warcraft Necromancy has always been preformed using death magic but it is achievable trough any magic. I am not 100% sure on this but I believe there is a mage called something Felstorm who raised himself into undeath with arcane magic, but the important thing here is that Calia Menethil is the first being to ever be resurrected into undeath by the light which has up to that point been the antithesis to undeath. Forsaken priests can call upon the light but it hurts them, and has inconvenient side effects. When calling upon the light an undead priest may regain a semblance of life and with it their senses... and regaining your senses as a rotting corpse filled with all that that entails is not a pleasant experience... So I hope you can see how big of a deal it is that Calia was raised by the Light...

LOL! "Who are you?" is an apt reaction to Calia fucking Menethil being placed on the Forsaken Desolate Council when she's been "Forsaken" for a hot minute. Thankfully, the rest of the council's feelings about this decision ranges from indifference to "huh, that's sus" to "this is bullshit". Even Voss, who started off as a self-hating undead (she was raised that way in life), and whose only been Forsaken for at least 5 hot minutes, deserved it more. Voss has one of the best character arcs in this game, and she's been reduced to a Calia cheerleader. However, my hope is that Voss isn't actually a cheerleader, and is simply on assignment to stay close to Calia just in case she becomes a problem, and perhaps guide her away from becoming a problem. Voss is part of an organization (The Uncrowned) that specializes on that, and I heard that there's someone else from that organization also keeping close tabs on Calia. Calia needs a proper character arc and more time with the Forsaken, and you don't need to push her into a leadership position to do that. Voss didn't need to be leader of the Forsaken to prove that she belongs, and that she can lead.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames If you're going to give Calia a position in the Forsaken political machinery, then Diplomat is probably the best use of her talents. Not because she has any real talent in that regard, but because of her relationship to the Alliance. She was, after all, partially responsible for an international incident between The Forsaken and Stormwind during a meeting that was designed to allow an amicable exchange between willing Forsaken and willing living relatives. There were a lot of happy and heartbreaking interactions, but overall, the meeting was serving its purpose for both sides. What happened next, I think, was just the writer trying to create political intrigue after her bosses told her to find a way to kill off Calia so she could be brought back as a Light Zombie. So the writer had Calia do something really stupid like loudly proclaim her status as Queen or Lordaeron and try to get the Forsaken present at the meeting to defect to the Alliance. Sylvanas killed her on the spot, and any Forsaken citizen that even considered Calia's proposal. To prevent something like this from happening, Calia had been instructed to not show up at this meeting, but she snuck in anyways, and Anduin allowed it to happen. This resulted in a Forsaken citizen somehow recognizing the princess despite her being 20 years older, which is what prompted Calia's outburst. it's not like the citizens of Lordaeron were constantly being bombarded with photographs, and video footage of the princess while they were alive. Doubt they even had portraits of her lying around the castle with how little she seemed to matter. I don't know, I didn't read the book, so maybe it was a castle servant that recognized her, or maybe she had a royal signet ring on or some kind of other marker. The Witcher show did it correctly with Ciri running around the countryside. Sure, she was the princess, and a lot of people recognized that she was a very important person due to her clothing and how she comported herself, but nobody outside of those that knew her personally recognized her, and 20 years hadn't gone by either. Despite the incident during the meeting, Calia is at least, in friendlier terms with the Alliance leadership than she is with the Horde leadership, because while she isn't a straight up Alliance character, she had better relations with them. More specifically, up until the ending of Battle for Azeroth, she lived exclusively on Alliance territory, and did not have any kind of relationship with the Horde, not even the Forsaken aside from being a former princess of Lordaeron. Problem with the the former Princess of Lordaeron argument is that the Forsaken, while mostly composed of formerly living citizens of Lordaeron, has undead humans from all backgrounds, and it also has a very large contingent of undead High/Blood Elves like Sylvanas herself, as well as other types of undead, and at least one Leper Gnome. There is a strong Lordaeron heritage there, but their identity is more Undead/Forsaken than Lordaeronian. One of the central themes of the Forsaken is about moving forward. Whether you wish to forget or cherish the past, moving forward is how you continue to forge a new future in this new life, because at the end of the day, you're undead now. Your personality may or may not be the same as when you were alive, but your needs and preferences will have changed drastically to fit your new body and senses. Although I believe Calia was spared of that by being raised by the Light. She seems more alive than undead, but in a state of stasis. Which is another point against her ability to represent the Forsaken. Calia has a good heart, and good intentions, but she's also dumb as a stump. So I always say she has a lot of Wisdumb, but her relationship to the Alliance means that Calia would essentially be a nice porcelain doll to put up front to soften the Forsaken's image after the Sylvanas fiasco. They need to build her up, as well as her relationship with the Forsaken and the Horde. Even after that, there's no reason why she needs to be the leader to be an important character in the Forsaken story. Lillian Voss and the former Nathanos Blightcaller are/were important Forsaken characters without being the leaders of the Forsaken. Although Nathanos was essentially the First Gentleman during Sylvanas' tenure. Hope Sylvanas finds and saves her beau while she's running around saving souls from Hell.

I only got the Caila cutscene with the forsaken cause I haven't played this patch other than leveling alts. Sylvanas was the leader of the forsaken which us the Playable undead race. After a short quest line that leads to that you can now make night/blood/void elves with the undead look. And if you do it as a hunter there's a dark ranger armor set you unlock. Now like the dwarves instead of having a dedicated leader they have a council including that other undead women Lillian Voss. She's a great character. She was introduced in the undead starting zone in the Cata revamp of all old zones. She's the daughter of this high position religious zealot and is in complete denial of being dead. The religious guys are bad guy like hardcore badguys. You keep trying to help her and she refuses and she keeps trying to go to daddy who's people are calling her an abomination and a monster. So she keeps defending herself by killing these zealots and you see their corpses are black with these shadowy flames and stuff. By the end of the zone you find out she was like experimented on or some shit I forget, but classic story the church wanted to use her as a weapon to smite all non humans. No that she's undead her out father reveals he doesn't give a shit about her. So she kills him and wanders away to come to terms with everything. As you go on in other zones and expansions she keeps popping up more and more pro forsaken with very "love yourself for who you are" message.

Yeah, one of the limitations of folowwing the story only through the cinematics - blizzard doesn't make one for all storylines, only focusing on the highlights. 3ed cinematic was very important for the playerbase and I would assume that we'll see Calia Menethil and Lilian Voss more in the future. But I doubt that we'll get a proper introductions for both of them in cinematic form, cause players have already known them for a few years now There're always lore videos on youtube though that'll cover that for blizzard >_

Would be cool to get more of Calia in cinematics especially if she was a main focus on next expansion 😀

6:04 So these women are Calia and Lillian Voss. Calia Menethil is sister of Arthas. Lillian Voss, i think, i'm not sure quite, but she was once side with Sylvanas before she knew about her. I think it was about Derek brother of Jaina. There are some parts where Jaina, Calia and Derek, and Voss, Calia and Derek had conversations that you maybe missed. Where things started... This is during BFA here is a link for it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YaOgXcxDKXE.html

Thanks for the extra info on who those women were and for sharing the link. We’ve mainly seen the cinematics and not the in game dialogue or cutscenes 🙂

you should watch "World of Warcraft: Complete Movie - All Cutscenes in ORDER [Warcraft 3, TBC, Wrath of the Lich King]" atleast for all the warcraft 3 parts. you get alot of lore about arthas and illidan (and more). even if you only watch the warcraft 3 parts its kinda long but maybe split it up into several videos :p i would watch it atleast until arthas becomes the lichking. the end bit of the video is wow cinematics you've already watched

10:40 You are actually wrong about this one, Ken. Sylvanas still has someone left. Nathanos who still loves her no matter what she does. Not to mention her younger sister Vereesa who feels sorry for her.

Nathanos will have to leave her, he is dead and therefore he will be sorted like the other souls, likely off to Revendreth.

WoW is full of characters who have made very questionable if not straight wrong choices. Sylvanas though is probably the biggest one ever written into a redemption arc. Jaina Proudmoore tried to destroy the entire city of orgrimmar which would have killed many more than the tree burning. Tyrande went on an indiscriminate rampage in the maw before showing up in ardenweild to fight sylvanas. I think the polarizing nature of sylvanas makes her probably the best written character in the franchise.

"That makes more sense than Anduin". Well, you SAY that. 🤣 There is multiple theories which say that Anduin is the son of Arthas , either with Jania as his mother , or that Arthas had an affair with Tiffin, Varian's wife. The first one is that Arthas and Jania gave Anduin to the Wrynn's because one or the other could not conceive and Arthas and Jania were not ready to be parents. The second one is just as bat shit mad as the first, as it's Scarlet Crusade propaganda that could be found in game, plus people think that not only did this affair happen, but Varian KNEW, but still raised the child and love him. So Anduin could still be related to Calia, and knowing Blizz, they might just keep this bit of in game BS in their back pocket for the next time they need to pull a patch or expansion out of their backsides. 😄

Kinda makes sense as there are a lot of similarities between Anduin and Arthas 🤔 Secret love child of Arthas and Jaina would be best case scenario 🤗

Really sorry to necro this post but no. Arthas hadn't even had sex when Anduin was born, so it's just not possible for him to be Anduin's father. It's in the Arthas novel, btw. Blizz loves to stick parallels between the two in everything. I think at this point they are just trolling people lol

The Forsaken are the playable undead race in WoW. On the whole, the Undead are the citizens of the Kingdom of Lordaeron that were killed when Prince Arthas Menethil killed his father and unleashed the Undead Scourge on his kingdom. Some time later, when Arthas left Lordaeron to become the Lich King, many Undead began to regain sentience and their memories of life. Sylvanas would go on to lead a coup that claimed Lordaeron for the Forsaken Undead, of which she was their Banshee Queen. Now that Sylvanas is doing her penance in the Maw (which I hope she never finishes and we never see her again), Calia Menethil, Arthas' sister and a unique kind of Undead I don't fully understand, is set to reclaim her rightful throne as Queen of Lordaeron and Queen of the Forsaken. Sorry about the veritable paragraph of explanation, but lore is kinda my thing and I wanted to explain this right.

We like the lore explanation so thanks for taking the time to fill us in more. Glad that Sylvanas isn’t done in the Maw. Seemed like that would’ve been super short for her to round up all the souls she sent there already 😅

Forsaken are free willed undead. Honestly though, I can't give the writing that much credit. A lot of the characters have extreme overactions and mood swings when the writing team feels like having drama which makes just about every faction leader kind of bad faction leaders in my book. But to be honest, out of all the Blizzard game out there, I liked the writing on like 3 of them. When it comes to political conflict and deep emotional characters, I feel Final Fantasy are kings in that department. Like as much as I hate Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca from FF12, she's still well written and she never did much out of character.

SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:sooo long story short Blizzard recenetly came out with a new Novel based upon Sylvanas that explained her life as a child and her family to the present and explained her decisions and why she did them... she basically see Anduin as her little brother, which Anduin pointed out when she was explaining her life story to him, she very much deeply loved her baby brother that she would call "little lord's Sun" and she always refers to Anduin as "Little Lion"... Sylvana's baby Brother Died in battle durring the 2nd war when the orcs attacked her home and she had been haunted/devasted by that loss ever since.... Sylvana's sees her dead Baby Brother in Anduin, and so they have this relationship of her being the Older Sister to Anduin (not by blood obviously...)

Imagine Nightelves perspective: 1. Sylvanus seige their city and light it up. 2. Their own god Elune put them sleep to let them all burn to satisfy Winterqueen. 3. They were sent to Maw and Tortured by Jailor for months. 4. Rescued by players and given to same Winter queen, sister of Elune. 5. Then they are used as sacrifice to power up the tear of Elune,......

Jesus, this story was cringe after WoTLK. Cinematic is the last breath of a dying game. The storytelling is absolute trash at this point, especially if you played all the Warcraft games. Are Anduin and that genocidal Banshee gonna' start a family now? Sylvannas was a piece of trash before she was killed by Arthas and now she's what, forgiven? LOL, she said as the Ranger General that her archers were 'just arrows in a quiver' to her. She has never been a good person.. Lmao, story board directors at Blizzard must really be hurting and desperately trying to fix their PR to make an ending like this. This company previously created the absolute best female protagonists/antagonists ever in the past, now it's just simping to recover their public image. There is a reason why millions of people cancelled their Subs and this sub-par storytelling is that reason amongst a host of other things, including shilling so, so, so hard.. So hard. If Blizzard still has anything left going for them it's their cinematics team and art/animation department assuming they haven't all jumped ship to other studios, which appears to have happened judging by the 2000's level detail cinematic at the end.. Anyway, always enjoy your videos guys, just this ending made me want to gargle salt water. This game died a while ago..
