Osu! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this video over the past 5 years and seen something different every time. The one clip where he takes a backward fumi ashi step, does soto uke to deflect the punch, steps off to the side to create an angle and then throws gedan mawashi of his lead leg to his opponents lead leg really stood out to me this time. Thanks for making this available to the next generation! Osu!
Great fighter and Great guy - he would throw hard with the advanced students and then lightly with the green/ blue belts. I sparred with him several times and he would stop in the middle and say "no...you gotta push me here, then step and kick". Great teacher and person. OSU!
I had the same experience with him... I was a green belt and sparred with him...he could have killed me but instead he kept giving me advice on how to attack him. Great guy...
I remember Stanley as a boy growing up in our Kyokushin Karate Spring Valley NY Dojo. The son of Sensei Tony. As a boy he was agile like a lion or tiger. He turned out to be a real champion, well done, OSU!
Bill D said it best...if Idriys was to enter UFC today at his age now with the great talent out there today he WOULD FIT RIGHT IN WITH THE BEST, Hands down.....
Osu Cowell sensei! Your highlight ranks up here with this one, go figure ;) to see knockdown rules with no gloves and jodan tsuki allowed.....I think of the bareknuckle Muay Thai fights (that allow head butts) in Myanmar and the Thai border. The fighting style changes a lot when bareknuckle face punches are allowed, it's a much slower and cautious style of fighting.
