That's next level! The harmonics from the tubes are .. whatever word describes the opposite of honky or nasally. Some good mojo. Almost reminds of the magic that the black box tubes do.
I placed an order for a Stam SSL comp a few years ago, and a year and a half later they still couldn’t promise me when it would ship after 3 separate times telling me it will “ship in a few weeks.” It was a bit like pulling teeth to get my $200 deposit refunded in full also. What a tease the whole experience was. No thanks. Bought a Revive MSL-TX instead that shipped next day, and I’m very happy with it.
Sorry you had a bad experience Chris. We have implemented many changes so that my units can be shipped in a timely manner and provide better support. Hopefully we can serve you better one day in the future.
@@joshuastam7704 I hope so Josh, I had over 3 4 thousand dollars with you and never got my units. Got my money back which I lost because PayPal charged fees. I try again.
I went thru similar things years ago. Lessons learned. No buying Stam products unless via dealers. The manufacture is too unreliable and procrastinating.
Thank you very much David for this video. But shouldn't you be testing and prepare a video right now on the Heritage Audio Herchild 670 ? Mhh ? Please :)))))
@@mixbustv what ? It's not already on your desk ? You are their best Ambassador, they will be fools if they're not sending one to you 😊 I have already stated in on one of their Facebook page that I looked forward to see your review about the Herchild 670
So …… still a bit of a wait….. wait is over….. arrived this week…. I revisited your demo and another one where the demo put tone through it with a spectrometer so you could actually see the impact of harmonics…. Looking forward to setting up a demo here in Nashville where we can run ‘em with a set of original 1176’s….
I feel like the SA-76D is pumping way more than the audioscape clones or the purple mc77. Of what i have heard in the past, they sound much more open and natural. It's certainly not bad, but thats my expression from this video. The tubes are a very cool feature though!
@@mixbustv okay...? Well the Audioscape 76D is built to be a 1:1 Rev D replica too, so...? I personally think the Audioscape products are the best when it comes to clones. They sound incredible open and smooth. You should check them out, if you even love the Stam so much. I think you`d love them!
Hi mixbustv I have the opportunity to purchase an sa-76d plus only 2 left in stock Do I get a comp 2a or sa-76d plus for lead vocals the only other hardware I have is ec1 pre amp and motu m4 with a sa-47 microphone Many thanks
After using it for some time, do you regularly use the tube-option or is it "just“ a nice-to-have-feature? I don’t have any hardware tube, so this unit is really interesting to me.
This ends up being the LV compressor probably 40% of the time for aggressive genres and if I do use this, is always with the tube on. But I also have 4 other 76's
hay @mixbustv Josh love your videos and knowledge bro. making me reassess my approach to mixing. that tube 1176 looks amazing out of my budget though. would you recommend the Klark Technik pultec style eq and the fredenstein vas Fet Comp? I no its left field of what this video is about but would love to hear your input if it would be worth my while getting them
See my members here already gave you the answer because they heard me giving that advise many times: don't waste your money. Wait until you can afford something you can trust and keep, like this one in the video. You won't gain anything buy buying stuff like that, you're better off with plugins until you can afford something worthwhile.
Cheers guys respect your genuine input. So if im gonna go for a comp. Yous would suggest saving is a better option. I was looking at one of your vids on the Golden Age comp 2a and 3a would one of them be worth while for a vocal chain
@@mpc40001014 look at the Audioscape D3A (stereo) or the rack 500 LA3A (mono) they make. It might actually be in stock right now, but you have to be quick. These are excellent excellent excellent LA3A clones. I use the D3A on voices (not so much since I got the Vcomp+ though) or synths.
The 3A is definitely not a first choice for vocals, can work sure, but I'd go for 1176 or 2A and look no further, you won't find better at this price than Stam
Well, I'm a little dubious. if I use a 1176 it is precisely so as not to have a tube compressor sound. I think it's to simulate the 1176 La2a combo.I found it convincing only for vocals.but that said I would have fun with it! Merci pour vos vidéos.
Not at all. The tube is in the output stage. Not used for the gain reduction (like a Mu), and the 2A uses an option cell. Granted that you can just not use the tube if you want on this one, you use the 1176 for it's action (FET) and color (amp) , you wouldn't get "tube compression" even if you wanted because it's in the output stage.
@@mixbustv In this sense, Dave, would you say it's almost like having the benefit of a tube preamp vibe if one didnt have a tube pre? I'm using a solid state preamp (silver bullet) and always wanted a tube pre to compliment my vintage 87. Also really need a Rev D 76 so this could be the ticket!
You do know my take on that kind of premise, so I won't say anything about it. I think this compressor went straight to my top 3 for vocals with distressor, and Rev A
Hey bro I was thinking about buying the universal audio version and also a Tube-tech cL 1b how does this stack up ? And honestly I just wanted one for mainly tracking vocals hip hop/ r&b for the tube flavor
Interesting gear…but adding tube anything before or after any compressor would give us the same results? Btw I have only plugins …and EHX Hot Tubes Pedal. 😎
@@mixbustv I have meant smth else. Lets say guitar tube pedal before or after a compressor without tube. Depends where the tube in stam is placed in a signal chain…probably before amp. No idea really…
The 176 is not an 1176, I understand why people think about that (because of the number) but the two are nothing alike, they're not even the same topology, one is a Mu the other is a FET, not even close. The 176 would be more similar to the Fairchild, go figure
@@mixbustv I see. I ordered mine and it’s just about to ship🙏🏼 Appreciate the response David. Also just want to say I appreciate the community you’ve created and what you bring to your page! Respect
1 tube, output stage. Why would you do a comparison with the "original 76" what's the original 76? This is exactly a revision D, you can literally compare it just by NOT engaging the tube. The 176 then it's a completely different compressor, not even remotely close to any revision of 1176 as it's a vari-mu.
@@mixbustv why would u compare it to the Original 1176 ? (Btw many in UK call it ‘The 76’ for short) I can think of many reasons: - so you’ll be the first to do it,, - to explore it even more, - for fun, variety, curiosity, knowledge. shootouts are great for ears to learn.. it’s gonna sell like crazy & great to see it! Il be buying 2 soon as I can get the wife away with her sisters 👯♀️ . These are all different & fun ! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w1vxWWD1j50.html
Why sorry, I didn't record nor edit, just mixed. Recording and editing ain't the mix engineer job. Also these were files from the project, shortened for the video not the actual tracks that were in the song.
The problem with stam audio is that you need 2 years of waiting to get one unit. That's why as good as this unit are, there are always better choices elsewhere
Did you watch the video? Stam has these in stock, zero wait, ready to ship. As for better I'd be really curious to see something better at the same price range, or better in general. You can get the same at best (not with this one, cause nobody makes an 1176 tube) at 2x the price
I've bought 2 Stam SA-76 500 series, a 1073-5T preamp that I received within a couple weeks. Stam has improved their wait times drastically and for me, Stam gear is a couple of levels above everyone else.
