Love the simplicity of this video (I have a tendency to overcomplicate mine, lol). Simple but effective demonstration of the compressor, thank you! It's a good-sounding preamp.

I know I've seen some of your Warm Audio gear vids in the past, especially the hardware vs software one. 😁 And thank you for the suggestion. I like that it can act like distortion box, the way Jimmy Page occasionally used the old 1176s. Some modern versions are cleaner than the originals were.

Yea I like the way the distortion sounds. I think Stam is probably the closest people can get to a vintage blue stripe 1176 sound without the price tag of a vintage unit. Thanks for watching!

My needle while it’s on GR and at 4:1 doesn’t Center in at 0 when nothing is going through it. Did you have to calibrate the compressor/meters or something?

I didn't do any special calibration to it. Just turned the screw however much I needed to until it was at 0. I have noticed for me that when I first turn it on, the needle goes to -1, but as it warms up, it eventually reaches 0 which is kind of weird. May be due to mine in a horizontal position instead of vertical.

I use to have 2 units. Needless to say never was 100%. I sold it because the front plate was wider than other 500 series modules so it was not fun to have install together and mount one over the other, I don’t know how they Made it wider, QC; or was mine. But I am considering in the future to get the new ones with mix knob.

I agree but it's not the end of the world. I have found a way to work around not having one. With any 1176 style compressor, it is important to figure out its unity gain. Once you do that and make use of the output VU meter, it becomes a lot easier to level match without needing the bypass function.
