I will never use another easel again after buying the original. This will be fantastic for people without a lot of room! 👏

I just received my Geneva easel, the smaller version, and I absolutely love it. It took me a little while to take the plunge and I am so glad I did. It has a much smaller footprint than my old one, it works like a charm and it looks really beautiful! I am so grateful to Mark for creating such a great easel!

Thank you for all that you do to help people to improve. You have inspired me to pick up a brush again after 50 years.

Just saw the other day through the Geneva email update that Geneva won't be making oil paint anymore. Kinda of a bummer but it has lead me to go into a RU-vid deep dive on how to make my own oil paint, and water-washed linseed oil...so soon for the first time I'll make some oil paint and I'm excited for that. Glad we have the option for a smaller, more affordable easel. I plan to buy the bigger Geneva Studio Easel though soon and can't wait. I've wanted it for years. I have a cheap Blick Art easel and all the adjustments I have to make drive me insane and I curse whoever designed it. lol.

I have the full size Geneva easel and it is absolutely the greatest design. Solid as a rock, easy to raise and lower in seconds. (Weightless). Easily paint to the edges on a tight canvas (the easel actually slightly tightens the canvas). You can sit with your legs under it or stand- it’s so meticulously made. It’s perfect.

wow this is great great news. I still have and use the basic home made version one that you have a video out on, how simple it was to make . It does tend to shake a bit so I did some add-on reinforcements that still work. but I always loved this easel that you are showing here on this video. Very tempted to jump at this smaller one

Sadly it's not yet available for shipping in most countries internationally. I have been waiting for the list of shipping destinations to increase however even though it has been a few years it is still not for most people outside the US. Great piece of equipment though..

So I very rarely paint on canvas I paint on panels does it hold a panel?
@tacticalskiffs8134
@tacticalskiffs8134 5 месяцев назад
yes it can. There is a gap behind the jaws where you can place a panel. I made a version of it and asked Mark beforehand. I do small pieces, and almost all panels. Mark may tend to larger pieces, and linen, for which this is ideal. I made slightly different jaws on mine, and also two different things to hold the Canvas without the jaws. But that isn't necessary, unless you want to make work that is so small it may fit between the jaws. It didn't ship to where I am, at the time. But I would have bought it if I could have, even though I work in panels and on small work.

A one time investment, made in the US, and with quality materials. Seems reasonable for serious artists who will spend countless hours in front of their easels.

@@lyceum4177 That's quite subjective. It's too expensive and not awesome.

@@kristinab1078 To me it looks very weird, something like what the 1950's thought passenger rockets would look like in the future.

@@atlantic_love And regular easels look like ladders... Yeah, I can see your problem... I started out making by making 2x lumber easel from the free plans on his channel, with some alterations. That thing has all the fundamentals of the costly easel, and if you like working that way, you can think about getting the refined one latter. The main limit of the 2x easel is that the canvas is screwed to the easel. This is the best method there is, it neither compresses, nor stretches the canvas/frame. And it works particularly well with the DMP system because you are really committed to each painting in turn, at least that is how I see it. One has mixed a full palette of paints, and is working through the process. But if one is cycling a lot of canvasses, it wouldn't be good. Luckily it is easy to adapt to whatever you want. I wouldn't cry about prices at DMP. Mark laid the groundwork by doing videos and putting up a website that includes DIY approaches to everything he does. I don't know of anyone else who does that.
