World's Best Can Opener: Say NO to China, Yes to USA Made

Frustrated by poorly made Chinese can openers which seemed to fail more and more quickly, I found a quality made product manufactured in the heartland of the USA by a family-owned business. Here is my review of the "EZ-DUZ-IT" and the "Made in the USA" Can Opener.

I just recently bought one of these after going through many made in China garbage openers. This thing is awesome. I couldn't believe how it cut through the can lid like butter. It's also cheap price wise. Worth every penny.

Me too! The one shown in this video just wore out. Basically, the cutting wheel is losing its edge and it is hard to keep clean after all these years. Could have easily been fixed if you could get the two small pieces, but that ain't gonna happen.

I agree with you they say make a can opener for a dollar and they say we make you how many you want!! The problem unfortunately is that China has become quite the capitalist Society too and they go cheap just like America went cheap even though they're promising better quality and what do you do? We the consumers? What I am really tired of is no way of getting ahold of anybody even when it comes to a can opener all the way to an insurance company or even law enforcement enforcement we the people are left high and dry in all cases

The best can opener you can buy is a Swing a way Automatic made in the Early 1960, this can not be worn out, it is in service for the last 57 years, it looks like new, it works like new smooth, quiet, never drops a can. The Automatic feature sets the blade down-automatic you just turn the crank forward when your done turn the crank backward, that easy. This is designed to go on the wall, but it has had NO maintaince from day one. Made with hardened Stainless steel cutter wheels. Go treat yourself, you will never need to think about it again.

I end up grabbing my P-38. It opens any can, even dented ones, and it actually gets sharper with use. It's not for everyone, but with a little practice, you can open a can pretty fast. It's easy to clean, too! You can find them on-line or at most stores that sell camping gear. I learned about the P-38 in the '70s from GI buddies returning from Vietnam. I've been using them since then. I've never worn one out. I eventually lose it and have to buy another. A tip: grip the can over the top with your other hand as you complete the cut. That will keep the lid from rotating "into the drink."

"Made In China" equal CRAP 99.9% of the time. Guitars? Crap. Openers? Crap. Light Bulbs? Crap....Why? inferior materials and workmanship. I don't blame the workers but rather the conditions. All about $$$$'s and greed. To hell with the customer, Long Live the Investors!!! is the thought of today!! Made In USA doesn't always mean it's going to be great, but the odds are MUCH better. You're correct. It's about more profits for corporate America, NOT paying people middle-income wages in this country, and keeping the masses pacified because they can all have 3 TV's and a whole pile of junk in our "throw-away" society, while the middle class is sold out for 3rd world country labor and communist country slave labor. "So what if I make less....everything costs less".....meanwhile, nobody can save money except for those in the upper classes.

I wish more companies would understand that when they look outside the U.S. to have their products made they are devaluing America. There are so many people in this country that out of work. 10.6 oz.? Interesting. My Swing-A-Way (which I bought new in the mid or late 1990s, and which has "Made In USA" stamped on it - i.imgur.com/JfakYxe.jpg), only weighs 9.023 oz. I wonder where the extra ~1.6 oz. in these Swing-A-Way copies are coming from? How thick is the sheet steel on yours? Mine is 0.076", which translates to 14 gauge. Mine still works like new by the way, even after ~20 years of frequent usage. It sucks that Swing-A-Ways are made in China now, but it's nice to know that the American company which actually manufactured them for Swing-A-Way (John J. Steuby Co.) is still making them under the "EZ-DUZ-IT" name.

I have this can opener and it is great. I purchased another that was described to be the same but when I received it was a smaller, cheap version. However the cheap version had the identical made in america packaging, and stamped into the metal also was made in America, with the name of the USA manufacturer. It did not work well at all, a waste. I got a full refund from a seller on Amazon. The difference between the good & bad one is the good one has 2 gears, is a full swing away and is bigger and heavier. I am guessing maybe the inferior one was a counterfeit? Beware.

The compact Swing-A-Ways have always been crap, even before they were made in China (thus the EZ-DUZ-IT one is also crap). The materials and build-quality are fine, but the design itself is bad. The reason the full-size Swing-A-Ways work so well is because of the gear-reduction, and as you noticed, the compact ones have no gear-reduction.

All the Chinese junk still hanging except for the ones I've pitched. Never found one that worked on even one can. My "goodcook" is on a blue card with USA can opener in large white letters. Cut through small and tall cans like butter. So smooth. Time will tell durability. Almost $10.00. Worth every penny. Do not buy those tall electric can openers with the pointed blade. Chinese junk, jams, groans and moans. Forget a tall can, not going to cut. Mine from Aldi to garbage. Watch those side cutters. You can have a sharp edge. Openers that lift lid off.
