Trying two electric can openers that cut cans on the outer edge of the rim instead of inside of the rim. Both the Kitchen Mama can opener and the Safety Can Express claim to do this.
Thanks for your review comparing these two products. I sometimes have problems with my hands and am glad to know there is a reliable alternative for opening cans. Although I will never give up my manual can opener (living through the 1994 California earthquake shows the value of having a manual can opener), it is nice to have a good automated option.
Thanks for the review Mack!! I actually was looking at the kitchen Mama about a week ago and wondered if it was too good to be true. It seems like it totally works fine and it beats the pants off the safety can express. I keep thinking what a useless dangerous item the safety can express is.
I like the way you used the Kitchen Mama on the Allens Beans to kick the Safety Can Express when it was down. Added insult to injury. I'll settle for the battery operated opener for sure. Plus, gonna try to find those seasoned beans. They look good.
I inherited a Safety Can Express but I'm not sure I'd recommend it. Opening is sketchy and I'm not sure if it's sanitary. Cleaning instructions say to clean the cutting edge with a qtip but the cutting edge is a circular disk so I'm guessing there's a ton of bacteria breeding in the opener. Other reviewers say that the lids are clean but I've seen all sorts of liquids left on the cutting edge. Just imagine juice from tuna...but even vegetables and legumes can carry bacteria and other germs. So far I'm still using it and haven't gotten ill...but it's food for thought.
Other can openers: you can see the whole cutting disk so can clean it if you wish, but with this one, the cutting edge goes into the interior of the machine. Please lmk if you know of a way to clean this, as I've only had the opener for a few weeks. Thank you!
I don't because I don't use it, I only use the Kitchen Mama. I have only used the Safety Can Express for the two videos I made with it but since the Kitchen Mama worked so much better, the Safety Can Express has sat unused.
Thanks for the review. I was interested in the kitchen mama but some reviews said it left metal shavings. I didn’t see that in your review. I think I’m going to buy it. also like that it’s small and can go in the drawer.
I do that also, I don't want to take a chance on the seal being comprimised and the food being spoiled. I purposely dented the two cans in the video just to test out the can openers ability to work on dented cans.
