Not to worry just keep driving... You will outpace it... He'll run out of charge before you run out of gas.. they can't sustain high speed for long... Anything over 90 ,, 30 minutes you'll be long gone.. Just avoid the strips in the road ,,,,, At full speed a tesla will be empty at 12 minutes.. that's at 150.. My car is a little four-cylinder I can get it up to 130 And running it for a few hours continuous

Model Y owner here. Just remember, if you're in a police chase, for example, a gas car, maybe a dodge charger or challenger and they're getting away. You'll run out of battery before they run out of gas. I've done 140+ in my MYP and lost about 5% in 1 minute. If the chase lasts longer than 20mins the criminal will get away.

It will be quite interesting to see how the numbers play out on 20 cars over 5 years, but it would probably be more profitable to buy over lease. Tax payers may be loosing for winning with a lease situation.

Anyone remember Carbon Motors who was building a "purpose built" police car? The government cancelled their loan so they went defunct. The Tesla does have some great benefits as a police car, but lets be honest, most have to do more with maintenance and running cost savings vs being an all around better tool. Lots of questions on a Tesla assuming this role as police car: Would the Tesla allow the PIT maneuver to be performed? If a downtown mob surrounded the Tesla, could the officer still accelerate out of the situation or would the surrounding mob essentially immobilize the car? After watching MunroLive's video on the "emergency plug", would a mob quickly learn that pulling open the charge door and sticking in a device like this, or similar device, suddenly put the police car in park and immobilize it?
@Michael-pi8ps
@Michael-pi8ps Год назад
Considering Tesla’s have been in accidents I think that answers your first question. Surrounded by a mob and the cop decides to run over the mob? Is this a serious question? You do understand it’s possible to immobilize combustion police cars with a little sugar right?
@aussie2uGA
@aussie2uGA Год назад
@@Michael-pi8ps The Pit maneuver would require the Tesla to consciously nudge the rear panel of another car. Would the software allow for this or would it constantly try to steer away? When the mob (think Portland)is attacking the policeman in his car, he would need to move the car forward and not find the car paralyzed because people surround it. Sugar in the gas tank? First this would require an unlocked gas flap and lots of time to take effect. We are talking about a downtown “flash mob” scenario where a crowd runs up, lifts the unlocked flap, and sticks a device into the port that disables the car.

not sure how that will be saving them money, i watch whambamteslacam, and fender benders cost 10k, not sure how you can save money with teslas... i love teslas, but the slow repair time and costs are outrageous, that is what stops me from thinking about getting one. they just are so expensive
@boundlesslotus4241
@boundlesslotus4241 Год назад
Repairs are very few and far between and warranty covers most issues you would have with the car for now up to 8 years because of how reliabke the cars are. As for the bumpers if UP is making custom ones that are meant to be used they will definitely not cost 10k. The car itself only costs 50k and charging over a year for most people will be well under 1000 where as gas cars would run them easily 10k a year per car. Its the obvious choice.

@Muskar2
@Muskar2 Год назад
@@nocapitals9833 I hear this sentiment a lot in the Tesla space. I've seen individuals experiencing this but I don't know that it's true systematically. Regardless, there could be plenty of reasonable explanations aligned with their mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. Including difficulties scaling good service centers with production rates, keeping their part inventories small, and designing the car to be cheap and easy to manufacture, with the consequence being impacts are very hard to fix. Also, maybe Tesla's parts are overpriced but their service centers aren't profitable, so it's already a lot better than dealers that want to maximize service profits.

How much do taxpayers pay upfront? These cars aren't cheap. How much for charging stations? How much for maintenance? Will Public Works mechanics be trained to work on these cars, or will the cars be sent back to Tesla? How long of a wait for parts? Police cars work hard, some run 24 hours a day, are these cars up for it? This may be to good to be true.

Yeah it doesn't save that much...lol what is electricity free? insurance free? Still cheaper gas powered any way you look at it ... all Electric powered vehicles for police force is not a wise idea.. Especially when there's power outages on a regular basis .. You're upfront cost for the Ev's Out cost everything... Maybe one day it will be cost-effective but it is not now , your fudging the numbers.. By saying $300,000 it will save you on gas cost because you're not using gas... You're not factoring in electrical Costs including upgrading your power grid for the charging stations you can't just simply plug it into any outlet and get it properly charged... You failed to tell us the actual cost.. It's actually more money for the taxpayers.. Maybe oneday It will be cost-effective but it's not today... Also Ev's are very susceptible to shock Damage what happens when you need to do a pit maneuver and other things you're endangering your police officers lives because batteries are explosive

No on has mentioned, that because those heavy cars could be running 24hrs a day over many miles, that those tires will wear out much sooner. The car is heavier and their tires will wear out sooner, so was the cost for additional tires figured in? And since they can't just change a tire themselves or call the tow truck driver to do it, it'll need to be towed in. Did they add additional towing costs into their budget too? Will they have maintenance personnel on duty 24/7 to put that car back into duty? If not, that car could be out 3 to 5 days, minimum. I think it's too early for this, only and especially where lives are concerned. One last point, the cost of hiring specially trained persons to repair those cars, both engine and body wise. Those will be higher too.
@marsoelflaco5722
@marsoelflaco5722 Год назад
They are expensive to own and maintain as a private vehicles. As a police car, that can be in service for 24 hours a day, in all types of weather and roadway conditions, it will take a beating, both inside and out...that's extremely expensive.
