I am grateful I meet Ingvar Kamprad a few times. He was such a inspiration and genuine a great person. Every time he meet co-workers at IKEA he always hugged them when he said hi. He told the logistical staff to offer coffee and a sandwich to the truck drivers that delivered gods to the stores. And once we was eating food at a gathering, and he totally decided to sit beside me and the store co-worker instead of the leadership of the store. We small talked about everyday life and he told me that he hated the paper cup that we offered in the bistro since they was not "washable" Also the farm he lived on is a wonderful place which I got to heard a lot of stories about his early life. This is just a few things that I remember from him and I am so grateful of them.

@aboose-
@aboose- Месяц назад
@@duplat666 I don't think you get how money scaling works. There are 219,000 IKEA employees as of 2023. Ingvar lead IKEA for 38 years, between 1976 and 2014. His net worth at death was 58.7B. So if he kept 2B and gave away the other 56.7B, it would be about 6000 dollars a year for his employees. That's 56.7B / 219K employees / 38 years. Now you might argue IKEA was smaller earlier on so it would be more for those earlier employees. But at the same time, if he didn't keep his wealth and grow it, it wouldn't have become 56.7B, it would have been less for him to give away as it would be going in employees pockets and not being invested back to be given away. Overall, the argument falls flat. There is no scenario where he could pay his employees "100x more".

@albertko1

EXACTLY! At the property values in the nicer parts of LA, each may seem "humble" as they aren't HUGE but the land, house, and location means each relatively normal home is a few million dollars each. That is instead of one sprawling "complex" and mansion and a whole lot easier to flip into cash if they decide to leave town or liquidate.
@Lionel-Goodfellow
@Lionel-Goodfellow Месяц назад
In Australia we have people who can't afford food, they get it from charity, and they are on combined incomes of over $200 000. Why? Because they spend beyond their means. They put themselves into so much debt when they buy a house. When they get a loan for a house (oversized and overpriced) they often get a car, furniture and holiday loan with it, massively adding to the cost of the house. They also have like ten+ credit cards, man, the list goes on and on how people with good jobs end up broke, bankrupt and having their mortgage foreclosed. In fact, a lot of people really are working for the bank with the amount of interest they will pay the banks in their lifetime. It's crazy beyond belief how silly some people are in real life when it comes to money.

Other than general maintenance, haven't had any major issues with it even after another 300 000km and being used for construction work and camping out bush. My Nan's Camry is going on 14 and it still works good and has only had a couple of minor issues.

Also, a lot of people are just resentful of success because of their own lives/shortcomings. They start projecting traits onto celebrities,and rich people in general. Ed Sheren is so relatable. I remember playing gigs back in my early 20s, and while it was fun.. the idea of being on tour vs being at home playing video games.. It wasn't even a competition.. Being on a bus being driven around to gigs is something not many people can do.. Now in my 30s I bought a place in the tropics with a town that has a population of 4k.. Happiest I've ever been.

Ingvar Kamprand was known to be a very nice and polite person, but also very frugal. Thats one of the reasons why IKEA became so great - he would well into his late 80's still go around in various IKEAs and find things to make cheaper, not worse mind you, but cheaper. And never at the expense of the workers. He would look at an item and go "can we not make the screws ourselves?" Then make sure the same screw could be used in as many products as possible. Fucking legend.

Love the highly educated point most of all. College and degrees are so overrated and most don't really need them nor should. A lot of jobs can really be done if more employers just gave most genuine, honest and hardworking people a chance. For Christ sake, more than half the people in my field don't have a degree whatsoever and yet they still pull in $100K+ easily and are some of the most incredible humans around!

Volvo's v40s are tanks on wheels. Reliable, plenty of space and a good fuel/power ratio. I would still be driving mine today if I hadn't been hit by a car on the motorway at 160. The car was hit in such a way that the rear end broke out 26 rollovers later, the axle was broken, the gearbox and the engine were gone and the body was completely dented. I was left with whiplash and a few scratches from broken glass but nothing else. I call that indestructible. This Swedish tank has probably saved my entire life. In a plastic ball like a Smart I would certainly be 6 feet under now.

One of my friends played basketball with Adam Sandler a few years back. He said he was a completely normal guy who just happens to be famous. On a side note, I used ot work in a hospital lab for years and also had morgue duties. I used to see dead people on a daily basis as well as an autopsy every 1-3 weeks, sometime multiple a week, for years. Having that experience really makes you realize what’s important in life. You can’t take your money with you. At the end, you will be just another body on that cold metal stretcher being pushed into the fridge. Life is all about the experiences/memories you make and the love that you fill it with. Once your basic needs are covered, more money isn’t going to give you a more valuable life. I’d personally still be driving my civic because it’s a great fun car, living in a home that’s no bigger than what I could personally manage, would still be doing all the yard work and fixing things around the house myself because that’s what I enjoy. Plus, my home is my sanctuary, last thing I’d want is for strangers to be on my property. Hell I’d likely build the majority of my home on my own and only hire people when extra hands/heavy equipment is needed. I also do the same thing as Mark when it comes to my daily wear, it’s wonderful. Makes laundry easier and I don’t have to think about what I’m going to wear since it’s always the same comfortable clothes. I would be flying first class though, hate the cramped seating and I’m a skinny dude.
